Influence of self-perceived oral health and socioeconomic predictors on the utilization of dental care services by schoolchildren.

The influence of socioeconomic factors and self-rated oral health on children's dental health assistance was assessed. This study followed a cross-sectional design, with a multistage random sample of 792 12-year-old schoolchildren from Santa Maria, a city in southern Brazil. A dental examination provided information on the prevalence of dental caries (DMFT index). Data about the use of dental service, socioeconomic status, and self-perceived oral health were collected by means of structured interviews. These associations were assessed using Poisson regression models (prevalence ratio; 95% conf

Prevalence of Dental Caries and Periodontal Disease, Access to Dental Services and Perception of Oral Health in Adolescents and Adults from a Rural Community in Angola.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection has a direct impact on the gastrointestinal system, as up to 50% of fecal samples from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients contain detectable viral RNA despite a negative rhino-pharyngeal swab. This finding, together with an intestinal expression of angiotensin conversion enzyme 2 protein, suggests a possible fecal-oral transmission for SARS-CoV-2. Furthermore, gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms are common in COVID-19 patients including watery diarrhea, vomiting-particularly in children-nausea, and abdominal pain. Path

[Study for improvement of oral health among the elderly. Present status of dental care service at elderly homes].

Since the dental environment at a living place could potentially become a factor causing a need for dental care, all 33 elderly homes (27 of which responded to the survey) in Tokyo were investigated for the purpose of identifying the present status of dental care service and the problems existing at these homes. The following are the obtained conclusions. 1. The rate of homes with dental care facilities is as low as 19.2%, and cooperation by dental care institutions, including house calls, is ensured only at the low rate of 11.1%. As a result, usually patients visit the dental institutions. 2.

Monitoring Use of Medical Services for Oral Health Care to Assess an Expansion of Public Dental Programs in Canada.

OBJECTIVES: Oral health disparities disproportionately affect low-income populations, with cost a significant barrier to accessing dental care. In Canada, individuals with untreated oral conditions often visit publicly funded medical services, which are not designed to provide dental treatment. The recently launched Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is intended to expand access to dental services for low-income populations. This commentary argues that reduced medical service use for non-traumatic dental conditions (NTDCs) is a potential benefit that should be monitored to evaluate the impact of
