OBJECTIVES: Double-crown attachments, such as conical crowns (CCs), can retain removable partial prostheses. Digital manufacturing enables the use of innovative materials such as zirconia, and new workflows. The aim of this study was to investigate options for the adjustment of retention forces of all-zirconia CCs.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Single zirconia primary crowns were produced with convergence angles (α) of 3 and 4 degrees, together with monolithic zirconia secondary crowns (n = 8 for α = 3 degrees; n = 8 for α = 4 degrees). Retention was measured by fitting the crowns with forces F = 12

Patients who have unusually small mouths may have difficulty in obtaining dental care and maintaining good oral hygiene. The fabrication of conventional complete removable dental prostheses for an edentulous patient with microstomia is challenging because of the limited access to the oral cavity. Sectional collapsible complete removable dental prostheses were designed as hinged maxillary and mandibular complete dentures that can be folded for denture delivery. This design also prevented denture deflection during function by using the upper part of the prosthesis, minimizing the possibility of

Large cast frameworks rarely fit multiple implant abutments passively without time-consuming labor-intensive adjustment procedures. Intraoral luting of components has been suggested to achieve a passive fit and eliminate most adjustment procedures. When the intraoral luted framework is returned to the master cast, the implant analogs may not be properly aligned to framework abutments. To complete the restoration, master cast modification or replacement may be required. The procedure described in this article produces a corrected master cast that fits the final framework and preserves the tissu

BACKGROUND: Implantology is becoming increasingly digital, opening up new therapy options to achieve preferably predictable and complication-free results. One key parameter for success seems to be stable and fixed soft tissue around the implant as well as the prosthodontic supply. The concept presented in this article aims for an anatoform and stable emergence profile around implants in a digital workflow applying individual polyetheretherketone (PEEK) healing abutments.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 63-year-old female patient presented to the Department of Prosthodontics at the Center for Dentistry a

The design and manufacture of a stackable surgical guide for implant placement with immediate prosthetic loading of completely edentulous cases is described in this dental technique. To achieve this, the stackable attachment is designed using free-form designing software, which is later joined to the implant placement guide and the dental prosthesis. This technique should provide the patient with a same-day implant and an esthetic restoration accurately placed in the predesigned position of the centric occluding relationship. It also reduces the number of visits and prosthetic complications re

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Although a completely digital workflow has numerous advantages, a physical definitive cast may be especially helpful for the accurate assembly of components of complex complete arch-fixed prostheses, the evaluation of esthetic and occlusion features, or prosthesis fabrication. Research on the accuracy of additive complete arch casts with implants positioned with a large anterior-posterior (A-P) spread is sparse.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the trueness of complete arch 4-implant analog casts with a large A-P distribution fabricated with di

Traditional methods of performing dental implant surgery and fabricating a definitive implant-supported prosthesis are being supplanted by digital techniques that provide greater precision and a more durable and esthetic restoration. In the present case, a 68-year-old woman presented a severely compromised dentition. She had received extensive restorative dentistry in the past and, due to recurrent caries and chronic periodontitis, was facing the loss of her maxillary teeth, as well as teeth in the lower left quadrant. This case report illustrates the use of a number of digital techniques for

OBJECTIVES: The concept of a single midline implant retaining a complete mandibular denture is controversially discussed among experts. Studies are rare in the literature, and commonly accepted recommendations for this treatment options are not available. This systematic literature review was performed to give an overview over the current literature on the single midline implant therapy for the edentulous mandible and to reveal whether this treatment option might be an alternative to commonly accepted treatment modalities with more implants.
METHODS: A review of the literature published until

The use of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) dentistry has triggered novel approaches to restoring teeth in ways that increase efficiency, improve esthetics, and conserve tooth structure. Endodontically treated mandibular incisors offer a challenging restorative opportunity due to the small amount of natural tooth structure and the required amount of reduction needed for restorative material. The case presented demonstrates how to leverage chairside CAD/CAM technology to restore a discolored and fractured endodontically treated mandibular incisor without the use of a

PURPOSE: To evaluate the fracture load of monolithic zirconia (Zr) crowns with implant screw holes, focusing on variations in occlusal and axial thicknesses, and to assess the interaction between these variables.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Six different prostheses were designed using CAD software, all of which varied in occlusal thickness (0.5 mm, 1.0 mm) and axial thickness (0.4 mm, 0.8 mm, 1.2 mm) based on the height and thickness differences of the titanium (Ti) implant abutment. A total of 12 specimens per design were created by milling Zr blocks and Ti abutments. These specimens were cemente

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Prosthetic rehabilitation is challenging after tumor excision in patients with oral cancer. Prosthetic parameters may be compromised because of the physical limitations of the oral cavity. Although microvascular free fibular flaps are a common treatment modality for mandibular reconstruction and allow the placement of dental implants, fibular resorption under long-term functional loading is still a controversial issue. Research focusing on how prosthetic design affects fibular resorption around dental implants in an oral cancer population is lacking.
PURPOSE: The purpose
