AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this paper is to report the outcome of an investigation of the teaching of repair rather than replacement in the management of defective composite restorations in dental schools in Indonesia.

In the mid-nineties, 27 patients received 31 implant-supported crowns in the anterior maxillary region, and 12 to 15 years later, 18 patients (67%) with 22 implants (67%) participated in a retrospective study evaluating implant survival, bone loss, prosthetic complications, patient satisfaction, and patient and professional evaluation of esthetics. One implant was lost because of implant fracture after 10 years. Mean marginal bone loss was 1.53 mm (standard error ± 0.17 mm). In 6 patients, 6 crowns were replaced and 1 repaired. In 3 patients, 3 crowns had minor unrepaired porcelain fractures.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the clinical effect of titanium implants with SLA surface preparation for partial prostheses.
METHODS: One hundred and ninety-one implants with SLA surface preparation were implanted in 130 patients with dentition defect who required dental repair at Yantai Stomatologic Hospital Implant Center. Successful rate of the implant, changes of soft and hard tissue around the implants as well as the stability of the superstructure were recorded and evaluated by regular clinical and X-ray examinations. The effect of four modifications to improve the fit and maxillomandibular relationships of poorly fitting dentures and the insertion of new dentures on masticatory performance was assessed in 21 denture wearers. During the 10-year period 1970-79, 88 patients underwent valve replacement for complications of bacterial endocarditis. The mean age of the patients was 42 (15-60) years. There were 64 men and 22 women. Thirty-three patients had a history of rheumatic fever. In 11 cases the murmur was heard already in childhood.
