Dentigerous cysts associated with supernumerary teeth are rare and estimated to constitute 5-6% of all dentigerous cysts. They resemble the usual dentigerous cysts in terms of sex predilection and age distribution. The vast majority, about 90%, are associated with a maxillary mesiodens. The literature is reviewed and 6 additional cases reported.

Glandular odontogenic cysts (GOCs) are rare developmental odontogenic cysts that may pose significant diagnostic challenges due to their overlapping clinical and radiographic features with other odontogenic lesions. We report a case of a 29-year-old woman who presented with pain and restricted mouth opening associated with an impacted right mandibular third molar. Cone-beam computed tomography revealed a well-defined pericoronal radiolucency attached to the crown of the impacted tooth and extending to the distal root of the adjacent second molar. Based on the characteristic pericoronal locatio

An aneurysmal bone cyst associated with a dentigerous cyst filled the entire maxillary right sinus and corresponding eroding portions. The report discusses the unusual presence of a dentigerous cyst, documentation of an aneurysmal bone cyst associated with a primary lesion, and offers suggestions as to the common pathogenesis of the two lesions.

The dentigerous cyst is the most common developmental odontogenic cyst of the jaws. The purpose of this article was to report the case of a dentigerous cyst associated with a permanent maxillary central incisor in a 5-year-old boy who had suffered severe facial trauma at age 4. Panoramic and periapical radiographs revealed a well-defined radiolucent area with radiopaque borders surrounding the permanent maxillary left central incisor, causing displacement of the tooth buds of the permanent maxillary left lateral incisor and canine and root resorption of the deciduous maxillary left lateral inc

The goal of this treatment was the surgical- orthodontic rescue of the impacted teeth in a large dentigerous cyst, in a growing patient, by fixed orthodontic appliances. Initial and final records and progress in treatment are shown. The Authors demonstrate that a good result my be reached in this cases even if initial position of the cyst-associated teeth is critical and translocation of an adjacent tooth in the arch occurs.

Damage to the dentition or tooth follicle is often cited as a potential complication of Distraction Osteogenesis (DO). The authors describe a case of a dentigerous cyst that developed following DO of the mandible. The possible histogenic mechanisms and the management are outlined. Understanding the causes of dentigerous cysts as well as the anatomy of the neonatal mandible may help avoid such a complication in the future.

This paper reviews the pathogenesis, clinical features and the behaviour of dentigerous cyst. A case of mandibular dentigerous cyst involving the incisor tooth (an unusual site) is presented to illustrate this pattern of behaviour. A recurrent pyogenic granuloma in the region of the lower incisors prevented the eruption of the lower left incisor with subsequent cystic formation around the tooth. The histological and radiological presentation is consistent with that of a dentigerous cyst. The significance of the potential of the cyst lining is stressed. The cyst was enucleated with the associat

BACKGROUND: Dentigerous cyst is a developmental odontogenic cyst. It is also named as follicular cyst in which there is accumulation of fluid between reduced enamel epithelium and follicle. It most commonly involves the mandibular third molars. Their occurrence in anterior maxilla is rare and may mimic other radiolucent lesion, posing diagnostic challenge.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 9-year-old boy presented to the Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, Mahatma Gandhi Dental College & Hospital, Jaipur, with a chief complaint of progressive painless swelling in upper right front region sinc

This paper presents a case of a dentigerous cyst accompanied by a history of inflammation, resorption of the roots of the first molar and the lingual aspect of the distal root of the second molar, and devitalization of the 2 premolars. The treatment option chosen was marsupialization of the cyst, extraction of the involved teeth, endodontic treatment of both premolars, and implant insertion in the area of the first mandibular molar at a later stage. Twelve months postsurgery the area of interest was almost flattened and the radiographic examination revealed total disappearance of the radioluce

Dentigerous cysts can develop from unerupted primary, permanent, or rarely supernumerary teeth. When a supernumerary tooth is in the maxilla, near the midline, it is called a mesiodente. Such a mesiodente lies in the palate and a cyst developing about this tooth can extend directly up into the nasal fossae. More commonly a dentigerous cyst arising from unerupted maxillary teeth occurs about the molar, premolar, or canine teeth and the cyst extends up into the maxillary sinus. The CT and MR findings in a rare case of a dentigerous cyst of a mesiodente are presented.

The dentigerous cyst is generally discovered during routine radiographic examination although it may be found because of secondary infection. Although the patient described in this report had symptoms of infection, discovery of the lesion was late in the course of development of the cyst as it grew to a large size within the antral cavity without causing external expansion. The panoramic radiograph is an excellent method to screen for central jaw disease but may not allow adequate assessment of processes involving the maxillary sinuses. As illustrated by this report, when the absence of a thir

A dentigerous cyst (DC) is the most common developmental cystic lesion of the jaws. Histologically, these cysts derive from the odontogenic epithelium that includes the reduced enamel epithelium, epithelial cell rests of Serres, and epithelial cell rests of Malassez. Radiographically, DCs are usually presented as well-defined radiolucencies associated with the crown of an unerupted tooth at the level of the cementoenamel junction (CEJ). Glandular odontogenic cysts (GOCs) are classified under the same category as DCs. Radiographically, glandular odontogenic cysts (GOCs) may appear as unilocular

CDC7 is a serine/threonine kinase which has an essential role in initiation of DNA proliferation and S phase. It increases the invasion and proliferation in many pathologic lesions. This study aimed to evaluate the expression of CDC7 in the most common odontogenic cysts. We evaluated 17 dentigerous cysts, 18 odontogenic keratocysts (OKC) and 13 radicular cysts immunohistochemically. The mean expression of CDC7 was analyzed using ANOVA and Post-HOC methods. All specimens revealed CDC7 expression. Higher expression of CDC7 in OKC and radicular cyst was shown in comparison to dentigerous cyst (P

Dentigerous cysts are the most common developmental odontogenic cysts. Still, a secondarily infected dentigerous cyst in children that results in an extraoral fistula is rare and can present as a routine odontogenic abscess. In this paper, we present a case of a healthy 10-year-old girl with progressive pain, swelling, and purulent discharge of the left mandibular area documented for one month after outpatient antibiotic treatment. Clinical examination showed a fluctuant facial swelling with an external fistula, while CT revealed a well-defined unilocular cystic lesion with an unerupted mandib

This is the image of dentigerous cyst detected in the medial wall of maxillary sinus, a rare location for the mentioned cyst, which emphasizes the superiority of radiographic features from the site of the lesion. Moreover, the present case showed no facial asymmetry despite the extension of the lesion.

Dentigerous cyst (DC) is the second most common odontogenic cyst with greater incidence in young patients. It presents as a unilocular, asymptomatic radiolucency involving the crown of an impacted tooth, commonly noticed in X-rays to investigate absence, wrong tooth position, or delay in the chronology of eruption. Decompression/marsupialization (D/M) is the most implemented treatment, especially when preserving the tooth involved is advised. The aim of this study is to discuss the DC characteristics that contribute to spontaneous eruption of premolars, by reporting the case of a conservative

Trauma to the deciduous teeth may have severe consequences. Pulp necrosis is the commonly observed sequel in traumatized primary teeth and is one of the possible etiologic factors for the development of dentigerous cyst. Dentigerous cyst is more commonly seen in mandibular third molar and maxillary canine region and is rarely associated with other teeth. This article addresses a case of dentigerous cyst associated with the germ of upper permanent central incisor, an uncommon site of occurrence, which was impacted, dislodged from its natural site of eruption after trauma to the predecessor inci

This was a retrospective study of dentigerous cysts in people from the Singapore-Malaysian region. The purpose of this study was to present the clinicopathologic features of dentigerous cysts in the Oriental population and to compare these data with those from other reported studies. Biopsy records from 1981 to 1993 of 119 cases of dentigerous cysts from patients in Malaysia and Singapore showed that 36.1% of patients were female and 63.9% patients were male. Among patients with cysts, 70.5% were Chinese, 23.2% were Malays, 2.7% were Indian and 3.6% were other ethnic groups. The mean age of th
