This study aimed to estimate diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) for the most frequent computed tomography (CT) imaging examinations to monitor and better control radiation doses delivered to patients. Seven CT imaging examinations: Head, Chest, Chest High Resolution (CHR), Abdomen Pelvis (AP), Chest Abdomen Pelvis (CAP), Kidneys Ureters Bladder (KUB) and Cardiac, were considered. CT dosimetric quantities and patient demographics were collected from data storage systems. Local typical values for DRLs were calculated for CTDIvol (mGy), dose length product (DLP) (mGy·cm) and effective doses (mSv)

High measles-specific antibody titers in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) have important diagnostic significance for subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE), a progressive neurological disorder caused by measles virus variants. However, the diagnostic reference value of antibody levels and the usefulness of the CSF/serum ratio measured using enzyme immunoassays (EIAs) for SSPE diagnosis remain unclear. To facilitate SSPE diagnosis using EIAs, measles immunoglobulin G (IgG) titers in the CSF and serum of patients with and without SSPE were measured and their CSF/serum antibody ratios evaluated.

Diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) are tools for optimizing medical exposures. We performed a retrospective analysis of 898 adult scintigraphic examinations acquired between 2018 and 2024 at a Peruvian hospital to establish institutional DRLs for eight procedures. Typical values were defined as the median administered activity, and the 75th percentiles were used as institutional action levels to trigger protocol review. Median weight-normalized activities ranged from 0.1 MBq·kg-1 for 131I thyroid uptake testing to 14.5 MBq·kg-1 for three-phase bone scintigraphy; corresponding derived effective

Background/Objectives: Optimizing routine neurointerventional workflow and minimizing exposure to ionizing radiation during coil-only endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms depend on operator experience, reduced frame rates during both fluoroscopy and digital subtraction angiography (DSA), and the use of advanced angiographic systems. The low-dose protocol implemented in this study used the lowest available fluoroscopy frame rate (3.125 frames per second [fps]) and a nominal acquisition rate of 2 fps (actual = 2.45 fps) for DSA, three-dimensional (3D) rotational angiography, two-dime

X-ray imaging is one of the most frequently used diagnostic tools in Kazakhstan and globally. Despite its clinical benefits, it involves exposure to ionizing radiation, requiring dose optimization. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) recommends establishing Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRLs) to enhance radiation protection in diagnostic radiology. This study aimed to propose local DRLs for posteroanterior (PA) chest radiography in adult patients in selected medical centers in Astana, Kazakhstan. A secondary objective was to assess the quality control of X-ray systems used in routine

INTRODUCTION: Diagnostic reference levels (DRL) of procedures involving ionising radiation are important tools for optimising radiation doses delivered to patients and to identify cases where the levels of dose are unusually high. This is particularly important for paediatric patients undergoing fluoroscopic examinations as these examinations can be associated with a high radiation dose. In this study, a large amount of paediatric fluoroscopic data has been analysed to: establish local DRL, identify the most significant factors determining radiation dose to patients, and modify fluoroscopic te

Wide variations in patient dose for the same examinations have been demonstrated by several studies throughout Europe. By investigating patient dose, variations can be acknowledged, causal agents sought and the necessary adjustments made. Diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) provide a framework with which dose levels from individual hospitals are compared, and when exceeded, corrective actions can be taken where appropriate. This study aimed to establish DRLs for barium enema and barium meal examinations in Ireland. Measurements were recorded using a dose-area product meter in 12 hospitals repre

A state-based local diagnostic reference level (LDRL) for dental intraoral X-rays has been established. LDRL values of 2.0 mGy incident air kerma (IAK) and 57 mGy•cm2 air kerma-area product (KAP) for an adult posterior bitewing X-ray were determined based on 811 X-ray units surveyed. This IAK LDRL value is greater than those established in several other nations and regions around the world in similar studies. Analyses of radiographic technique and equipment usage are included to provide broad guidance as to ways that imaging could be optimised, such as in the selection of exposure factors, col

BACKGROUND: Computed tomography (CT) is vital in diagnostic imaging but involves ionizing radiation, requiring careful dose management. Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRLs), recommended by the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP), serve as benchmarks for optimizing radiation doses and improving patient safety. While many DRL studies exist, most focus on individual countries, anatomical regions, or clinical indications, limiting broader applicability. This systematic review addresses this gap by analyzing adult CT DRLs across continents and major anatomical areas. It compare
