Assessment of parents' awareness of the anti-inflammatory diet and its impact on their child's health: survey study.

INTRODUCTION: The latest evidence highlights that an unhealthy diet and poor nutrition status are some of the modifiable behavioural risk factors responsible for the development of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Anti-inflammatory diets are important in both the treatment and prevention of disease (e.g. hypertension, obesity, Hashimoto's thyroiditis). The concept of these diets has common core foundations and recommendations. The family environment from early childhood plays a particularly important role in shaping healthy eating patterns of children and youths. Thus, parents' nutritional kn

Assessment of selenium intake using data from the UK National Diet and Nutrition Survey: Methodological challenges.

BACKGROUND: Concerns have been raised about the adequacy of dietary selenium (Se) intake in the UK population in recent years, but because the safe intake range is narrow, it is important to be able to measure intakes as accurately as possible. METHODS: We assessed Se exposure in UK adults by comparing reported dietary intakes from the National Diet and Nutrition Survey (NDNS) with estimated intakes from plasma Se concentrations obtained from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) model. For the purpose of this study, we used NDNS data on UK adult population divided in the two periods 1-11

The Role of a Plant-Only (Vegan) Diet in Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease: Online Survey of the Italian General Population.

The relationship between food and the pathophysiological mechanisms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is unclear. There are few data on the impact of dietary habits on GERD symptoms and on the incidence of GERD in subjects undergoing plant-based diets. In this study, we investigated the association between diet and GERD, using data collected through an online survey of the Italian general population. In total, 1077 subjects participated in the study. GERD was defined according to the Montreal Consensus. For all subjects age, gender, body mass index (BMI), marital status, education, occ
