Wastewater generated during pesticide synthesis is a potential source of high concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emissions, which would cause adverse effects on human health and the environment. Here, we provided a comprehensive study on concentrations, health risks, and olfactory effects of VOCs emitted from a pesticide wastewater storage tank. OBJECTIVE: Our purpose was to compare the effects of agents activating particulate or soluble guanylate cyclases on the spontaneous contractile activity of the isolated pregnant rat uterus.
STUDY DESIGN: Uterine rings from midpregnant (14-day) and late pregnant (21-day) rats were suspended in organ chambers to record spontaneous contractile activity. Concentration-response curves were obtained for the following natriuretic peptides: atrial, brain, and C-type; concentration-response curves were also obtained for diethylamine nitric oxide, 3-morpholino-sydnominine, and authentic nitric oxide.

Our objective was to test the hypothesis that local production of the vasorelaxant nitric oxide could regulate mammary blood flow. In four lactating Saanen goats, the response of mammary blood flow to intraarterial infusion of the nitric oxide donor diethylamine NONOate and the inhibitor of nitric oxide synthesis N omega-nitro-arginine was measured. The supercritical fluid extraction behaviors of hyoscyamine and scopolamine were investigated and found to be highly dependent upon the chemical nature of the compounds. Free bases of hyoscyamine and scopolamine were freely soluble in supercritical CO2 with increasing temperature and pressure; however, the salts of these alkaloids were not soluble under any experimental conditions. It was found that alkaline modifiers such as methanol basified with diethylamine could enhance the solubilities and extraction yields of these alkaloids from plant matrices as compared to other modifiers.

Chromatographic purity tests of four phenothiazine derivatives chlorpromazine, levomepromazine, promethazine and trifluoperazine have been developed. The adsorptive and partition methods are suitable to the separation of the above substances and intermediates as well as side products of their productions. The most common impurities of final products were detected by qualitative purity tests. Densitometric quantitative determinations were carried out on silicagel layer using the solvent system cyclohexanebenzene-diethylamine. Quantity of intermediate impurities were 0.15-0.96%.

Metoprolol, a beta-adrenergic blocker, is only available as a racemic mixture for clinical use. A high-performance liquid chromatographic method for the separation of the optical isomers (enantiomers) in human serum is described utilizing a commercially available column with a cellulose tris (3,5-dimethylcarbamate) chiral stationary phase. Separation of the enantiomers is accomplished without precolumn derivatization using a mobile phase of hexane-2-propanol-diethylamine (91:8:1, v/v). The method can be successfully applied to pharmacokinetic studies in man.
