A 33-year-old woman with an atrial septal defect associated with severe pulmonary hypertension underwent suture closure of the defect after assessment of operability by lung biopsy. Postoperative course was complicated by suprasystemic refractory pulmonary hypertension, and she became dependent upon treatment with inhaled nitric oxide. After multiple attempts to withdraw nitric oxide, dipyridamole was administered and blunted the rebound pulmonary hypertension after subsequent nitric oxide withdrawal.

Potentially life threatening rythm disturbances, such as third degree A-V block and sinus arrest without "escape rythm", represent infrequent and unexpected events during dipyridamole thallium scintigraphy. The effect of dipyridamol on T-lymphocyte activation was investigated. The drug did not have an irreversible toxic effect on T lymphocytes. Platelet-inhibiting drugs have been used widely in the treatment of thrombotic thrombocytopenia purpura. Nineteen consecutive patients received various treatments including platelet inhibitors, glucocorticoid drugs, whole blood or plasma exchange transfusions, and splenectomy. A primate model was utilized to study the cardiovascular and coagulation effects of endotoxic shock. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The combination of dipyridamole and aspirin has been shown to be more effective than aspirin alone in the secondary prevention of stroke. Dipyridamole may act by inhibiting adenosine uptake, thus potentiating its actions.
