The Cost of Neurodevelopmental Disability: Scoping Review of Economic Evaluation Methods.

The provision of effective care models for children with neurodevelopmental delay or disability can be challenging in resource constrained healthcare systems. Economic evaluations have an important role in informing resource allocation decisions. This review systematically examined the scope and methods of economic models evaluating interventions for supporting neurodevelopment among children with common neurodevelopmental disorders and identified methods of economic models and presented policy implications. This scoping review employed the Arksey and O'Malley framework and aligned with the Pr

Disability under social security; medical evaluation and decision as to rehabilitation.

Recent amendments to the Social Security Act give privileges to persons who are found to be disabled. In California, the State Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation has responsibility for determining whether or not an applicant is disabled within the meaning of the Act. Each applicant must submit medical evidence provided by his own physician or by a hospital. The evidence is reviewed by both a physician and a counselor, who determine not only whether disability exists but also whether rehabilitation services might be helpful. In the first 9,000 cases in which determinations were made, 49 per ce

Evaluation of the driving ability in disabled persons: a practitioners' view.

PURPOSE AND METHODS: The purpose of this paper is to present, on the basis of four genuine cases from the Rehabilitation Research Unit of Oulu University, the theoretical frame in which evaluations of driving ability of disabled persons can be made. RESULTS: First, it is not the operations with the control devices but the correct mental actions which the driver carries out with the help of the control devices which are crucial for safe driving. Second, driving ability is only partly a biomedical object of research and one ought to avoid an excessive medicalisation of an evaluation of driving

A multidisciplinary evaluation of the child with a visually related learning disability.

It is conceded that not all learning disabilities result from vision or visual perceptual problems. Optometrists are advised to familiarize themselves with techniques employed by other disciplines dealing with learning disabled children. It is suggested that they direct themselves to the myriad of variables involved in the care of the under achieving or non-achieving child so that their own specific techniques will become of greater value to the patient.

Evaluation Methods of Dysphagia in Adults With Intellectual Disability: A Scoping Review.

Dysphagia is a serious but underdiagnosed health-related condition in people with intellectual disability (ID). In this scoping review, we provide an overview of dysphagia evaluation methods used in adults with ID. The data from 31 studies were analyzed qualitatively by identifying the evaluation methods and the validity and reliability of the methods. To summarize, dysphagia has been evaluated in many ways and for different purposes. The most common evaluation method was a videofluorographic swallowing study (VFSS). Four of the reviewed methods were found to be valid and reliable in detecting

Comprehensive evaluation of the child with global developmental delays or intellectual disability.

Global developmental delay (GDD) and intellectual disability (ID) are relatively common neurodevelopmental disorders that significantly impact affected children, their families, and society. The etiology of GDD/ID is notably diverse, encompassing both genetic and acquired factors. Although the precise cause of most GDD/ID cases remains unclear, an estimated half of all cases can be attributed to genetic factors. Thus, a detailed medical history and comprehensive physical examination remain pivotal for guiding diagnostic investigations into the underlying causes of GDD/ID. Advancements in genet
