During 2019-2020, a chikungunya outbreak occurred in Djibouti City, Djibouti, while dengue virus and malaria parasites were cocirculating. We used blotting paper to detect arbovirus emergence and confirm that it is a robust method for detecting and monitoring arbovirus outbreaks remotely.

Aerobic, spore-forming gram-positive Bacillus spp infections are rare and reported mainly in immunocompromised hosts. We report a case of acute unilateral maxillary sinusitis, caused by Bacillus licheniformis, in a 35-year-old French soldier stationed in Djibouti. It was easily identifiable due to its typical culture and resistance profile. This case is interesting for two reasons: first, it is, to our knowledge, the first case of sinusitis attributed to this microbe, and second, it has rarely been described in immunocompetent patients without altered skin or mucous membranes.

Liver diseases, specially hepatomegalies and hepatosplenomegalies are very frequent in Republic of Dijibouti. Needle-biopsy of the liver is a good approach of this pathology as demonstrated by controlling 1.110 specimens within a period of 9 years, leading to very different diagnosis.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Djibouti was a country where malaria has been endemic for centuries. The local population use the plants as repellents or first aid for uncomplicated malaria.
AIM OF THE STUDY: The aim was, for the first time, to collect and identify plants used by the local population to treat malaria and select the most interesting plants (those that are more commontly used, more available, and have fewer studies). This study presents the first Knowledge Attitudes, and Practices (KAP) survey on malaria in Djibouti City. It was conducted among 1,344 household heads across nine neighbourhoods in Djibouti City. Composite scores were calculated for each KAP dimension. The first identification of the Leishmania species responsible for visceral leishmaniasis in Djibouti is described. Four strains, obtained from three autochthonous cases, were identified by starch-gel electrophoresis and iso-enzyme analysis of 15 enzymatic systems. The strains were found to belong to two newly recognized zymodemes of L. donovani: MON-268 and MON-287.

INTRODUCTION: While the molecular epidemiology of extended-spectrum-b-lactamase (ESBL)-producing E. coli is well known in Europe due to effective surveillance networks and substantial literature, data for Africa are less available, especially in Djibouti.

This study investigates the occurrence, distribution, and risks (ecological and human health) of 25 targeted pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) in Djibouti's aquifer, a critical water resource. The purpose of this report is to describe a case in which a heel ulcer with atypical features, i.e., large size and rapid progression, led to diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma. Patient management was based on specialist advice obtained by "tele-dermatology" based on pictures and comments transmitted over the Internet. A pelvic kidney is a rare congenital renal ectopia frequently associated with vascular anomalies. Knowledge of these variations is essential for diagnostic evaluation and surgical planning. We report the case of a 35-year-old man in whom a right pelvic kidney with unusual vascular variations was detected on computed tomography urography.
