RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has resulted in significant changes to medical student education by disrupting clinical rotations, licensing exams, and residency applications. To evaluate the pandemic's impact and required modifications of radiology medical student courses, the authors developed and administered surveys to Alliance of Medical Student Educators in Radiology (AMSER) faculty and enrolled medical students. The surveys requested feedback and insight about respondents' experiences and innovations.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Anonymous twenty-qu

BACKGROUND: Addiction medical care is a core competency for internal medicine residents, yet most hospital systems lack an addiction medicine consult service to provide residents with practice-based learning opportunities.
AIM: Provide medical residents with clinical training in evidence-based approaches to treating substance use disorders.
SETTING: Large, urban, academic tertiary care internal medicine residency program PARTICIPANTS: Internal medicine residents on inpatient services PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Creation of an "educational consult" program where residents caring for patients with su

BACKGROUND: Maintaining a workforce capable of providing safe and effective care is a critical priority of healthcare systems worldwide, with growing concerns about paediatric workforce and increasing demand on acute services. Ensuring that graduating doctors can recognise and initiate management of acutely ill children is therefore an essential competency in medical education. However, opportunities for medical students to gain experience in paediatric emergencies during undergraduate clinical placements are often limited, unpredictable and ethically constrained. Consequently, students may gr

OBJECTIVE: Research has shown that patients transported by nonpediatric teams have higher rates of morbidity and mortality. There is currently a paucity of pediatric standardized ongoing medical education for emergency medical service providers, thus we aimed to develop a model curriculum to increase their knowledge regarding pediatric respiratory distress and failure.
METHODS: The curriculum was based on the Kolb Learning Cycle to optimize learning. Target learners were flight nurses (registered nurse) and emergency medical technicians of a private helicopter emergency transport team. The to

OBJECTIVES: Clinical medical education depends on the availability of instructive patient encounters, or "good teaching cases." While all medical students hope to see enough patients of sufficient scope and variety, exposure to good teaching cases has been traditionally limited by time and chance. Students may graduate from medical school without having seen a number of important cases, each of which may represent a knowledge gap they will carry forward into internship and future patient care. Recently, however, the advent of high-fidelity patient simulators has enabled instructors to recreate

One in four US adults age ≥ 65 have two or more chronic conditions, many of which can be prevented or managed through nutritional interventions. Despite known benefits, nutrition is not prioritized in undergraduate or graduate medical education. We reviewed agendas of three major geriatrics-related continuing medical education (CME) conferences from 2018 to 2025 to understand the extent to which deficits in nutrition training could be addressed via CME. We searched 19 conference agendas for the terms: "nutrition," "diet," "lifestyle," "food," "fat," "carbohydrates," "protein," "vitamin," "mine

PURPOSE: To perform a systematic review about microsurgical training for medical students.
METHODS: A systematic search was conducted in several databases. Screening was performed by two independent reviewers based on predetermined criteria, following PRISMA 2020 guidelines.
RESULTS: A total of 433 articles were obtained. After screening, 40 were included. Teaching methods were heterogeneous and restricted to a few countries. There are specific methods to assess microsurgery training, general surgical activities, learning curve and anxiety. The most used materials were surgical gloves, silic

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The role and importance of integrating humanities into medical education has been recognized for a long time. However, to what extent humanities are included in the medical curricula and how and when they are taught during the medical training in medical schools across the world is unclear. The review was undertaken to study the current status and role of humanities in medical education.
RECENT FINDINGS: Humanities content in the medical curriculum and the teaching of humanities continue to remain unstandardized. What constitutes medical humanities is unclear as there are s

INTRODUCTION: The ABMS (American Board of Medical Specialties) mandated maintenance of certification in 2000 for its 24 member boards. The ABU (American Board of Urology) initiated the maintenance of certification process in 2007.
METHODS: A literature review using Medline® and a Google® search was performed using continuing medical education and maintenance of certification as search terms to identify pertinent literature.
RESULTS: The relevant literature was reviewed, and a distillation of the controversial issues regarding continuing medical education and maintenance of certification was

In Japan, the reconstruction of medical board certification system is under way. We have to show clearly to our people what is the specialty of neurology, and what professionals of neurology can do for them, For medical graduates who intend to become a professional of neurology in Japan, it is a prerequisite to obtain first the certification of general medicine under the newly developed board certification system. Therefore, we have to design our own effective education system of neurology, in collaboration with general medicine. We are also asked to determine by ourselves the adequate number

BACKGROUND: Medical schools and medical education look different as we advance into the 21st century. Nepal has seen a dramatic increase in the number of medical schools/colleges in the last decade. Most schools practice traditional teaching method while others are implementing problem based learning (PBL). It is important to explore the current advances and practices in medical education to meet the needs of the health services of the country.
OBJECTIVE: The objective of the present study is to explore the students' perception regarding present status of medical education in Nepal and provid

The United Nations Convention against Torture came into force on June 1987 and the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture on 1 February 1989. The two Conventions are complementary and do not overlap in any respect, including their relevance to training of health personnel. The United Nations Convention calls for education of all doctors and other health personnel. Education should therefore be at the undergraduate level and should provide an insight into torture methods, the goal and objectives of torture and the sequelae of torture so that doctors can identify victims of torture. The lack of physician training in serving patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) has been highlighted as a key modifiable root cause of health disparities experienced by this high-priority public health population. To address gaps in medical education regarding the lack of IDD curriculum, lack of evaluation/assessment, and lack of coordination across institutions, the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry created the National Inclusive Curriculum for Health Education-Medical (NICHE-MED) Initiative in 2016. The aims of NICHE-MED are to: (1) impact me

Attention toward Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer (ChatGPT) has greatly increased, including in the medical field, but concerns about its problem-solving ability, accuracy, reliability, and limitations in medical problems always coexist. This study aimed to evaluate ChatGPT's performance in solving a medical school examination. We used 50-question examinations from the preventive medicine and psychiatry fields applied to 41 fourth-year medical students. Forty-nine questions were separately entered (one was excluded for being image-based) into the text box of ChatGPT models 3.5 and 4.0 w

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into medical training is accelerating faster than the educational frameworks designed to govern it. This Perspective identifies a risk that has received insufficient attention: that trainees who rely on AI during the early formative years of clinical education may fail to develop the foundational reasoning skills that safe, independent practice requires. We refer to this as 'never-skilling', distinguishing it from deskilling in experienced clinicians and from mis-skilling, in which uncritical acceptance of AI errors leads trainees to internalize

Medical schools, like all institutions, are conservative since they seek to maintain and expand on their accomplishments. Stakes are high in carceral medicine given the risks of replicating the inhumane social conditions that exist within prisons and allow prisons to exist. Given the increasing number of partnerships between state and municipal carceral systems with academic medical centers, medical schools must consider which guiding theory they will use to teach carceral medicine. The interdisciplinary theory of prison abolition is best fit for the task of training medical students to think
