Systemic and political determinants of the global nursing and midwifery shortages: A discussion based on human resources for health data.

BACKGROUND: Nurses and midwives constitute a substantial proportion of the global health workforce and are essential to universal health coverage, maternal and newborn health, and health-system resilience. The Global Burden of Disease 1990-2023 Human Resources for Health estimates provide an opportunity to examine these challenges across three decades. AIM: This discussion paper reframes global nursing

School health nursing: framework for the future. Part II.

The relative prestige that school health nursing currently enjoys provides a positive climate in which to advance this nursing specialty. To fully capture this advantage, the profession and its practitioners need to address some practice issues while reinforcing its community-based influence on the health and educational success of America's school-age children. Part I of this series addressed the societal environment in which school nursing finds itself, the factors that support school health nursing programs, and the need to develop new and expanded partnerships. Part II speaks to the profes

Effects of textual cue manipulation on student recall in an information mapped nutrition text.

Using the subject area of nutrition, this study examined the effects of different instructional features of an adjunctive text for nursing students who varied in reading level. Specifically, the study investigated the effects of both variations in instructional features of information-mapped text and the differences in student reading levels on immediate recall scores and work time spent on the modules. A sample of 65 nursing students was classified into high and low reading groups according to the Nelson-Denny Reading Test, then randomly assigned to one of the three treatment groups. Analysis

There are suggestions for how to infuse content related to TGD health throughout nursing education curriculum. There are specific calls to action for individuals, schools of nursing, and nursing education organizations like the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, the American Nurses Association, and the National League for Nursing.

AI-ready nurse educators: A cross-sectional mediation study of digital competence between digital literacy and artificial intelligence self-efficacy.

BACKGROUND: The rapid integration of digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) into nursing education has increased the need for nurse educators to possess adequate digital literacy, digital competence, and confidence in using AI-enabled tools. However, evidence on the mechanisms underlying educators' AI readiness remains limited, particularly in low- and middle-income contexts. OBJECTIVE: To assess levels of digital literacy, digital competence, and AI self-efficacy among nurse educators and to examine whether digital competence statistically mediated the association between digi

Mapping the effects of nurses' developmental care education on infants and families in a surgical neonatal intensive care unit: An observational study.

Developmental care (DC) mitigates the impact of neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) stressors on infants and their families. However, the effect of variable exposure to DC-educated nurses on infant and parent outcomes remains unclear. Social network analysis (SNA), which maps relationships and interaction patterns, was used to evaluate the influence of nurse DC education in a surgical NICU (sNICU). In this prospective observational study, 45 infants >34 weeks' gestation, their parents, and sNICU nurses participated. We examined associations between nurse DC education levels and infants' behavi

BACKGROUND: Diabetic foot ulcers are a chronic complications of diabetes associated with substantial morbidity, amputation risk, and reduced quality of life. Promoting the patients' capacity for independent wound care is a key component of long-term management. Although health promotion and supportive-educative nursing approaches are widely advocated in nursing, empirically informed models specifically addressing independent wound care in diabetic foot ulcer patients remain limited, particularly in low-income and middle-income countries. OBJECTIVE: To develop a supportive-educative nursing mo
