By means of real-time RT-PCR and immunofluorscent staining combined with confocal microscopy we show for the first time the expression ofmRNA and protein ofthe cold/menthol-sensitive cationic channel, TRPM8, in the smooth muscle cells (SMC) from the epididimal and prostatic portions of the rat vas deferens. Expression of TRPM8 mRNA correlated with the expression ofmRNA for androgen receptor (AR): orchidectomy of the animals resulted in the enhancement of the expression of both mRNAs, which likely reflects specific for the vas deferens compensatory response to the decreasing levels of circulati

Obstructive azoospermia is a kind of common clinical disease, which often happens in epididymis, vas deferens and ejaculatory duct obstruction and accounts for male infertility. Azoospermia, which is caused by obstruction of the ejaculatory duct, is relatively rare. but the development of endoscopic technology now allows the disease to be resolved by surgery. In the past, transurethral resection of ejaculatory duct (TURED) has been used to treat patients with ejaculatory duct obstruction and azoosperm-free disease. But with the further study of TURED operation in recent years, as well as in pa

Ejaculatory duct obstruction is a rare condition identified in up to 5% of infertile men. Patients with ejaculatory duct obstruction can present with aspermia, azoospermia or oligoasthenospermia, painful ejaculation, hematospermia, prostatic pain, or male infertility. Semen analysis, transrectal ultrasonography, pelvic computerized tomography and magnetic resonance imaging are often used in the diagnostic work up, but with limited accuracy. While transurethral resection of the ejaculatory ducts has good efficacy for distal duct obstruction, results for proximal obstruction are less impressive,…

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the diagnosis and treatment of ejaculatory duct cyst.
METHODS: This study included 2 male patients present at the hospital for hemospermia and abnormal sensation in the perineal region in July and August 2014. Both underwent transrectal ultrasonography, routine semen examination, CT, MRI, cystoscopy, and vesiculography before transurethral fenestration of the cysts and pathological examination of the cyst wall specimens. Analyses were made on the clinical presentations, imaging features, pathological characteristics, differential diagnosis and treatment of ejaculator

BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a disorder characterized by dopaminergic neuron programmed cell death. The etiology of PD remains uncertain-some cases are due to selected genes associated with familial heredity, others are due to environmental exposure to toxic components, but over 90% of cases have a sporadic origin. Nocardia are Actinobacteria that can cause human diseases like nocardiosis. This illness can lead to lung infection or central nervous system (CNS) invasion in both immunocompromised and immunocompetent individuals. The main species involved in CNS are N. farcinica, N. no

PURPOSE: We determine how transurethral resection of the ejaculatory ducts performed for infertility affects seminal parameters and pregnancy outcomes in patients with partial ejaculatory duct obstruction due to a congenital or acquired etiological factor.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Based on history and physical examination, hormonal profiles, semen analyses, transrectal ultrasonography and vasography findings partial ejaculatory duct obstruction was diagnosed in 14 men a mean of 30 years old who presented for infertility evaluation. Patients were grouped according to congenital or acquired cause…

There has been recent interest in techniques for diagnosing ejaculatory duct obstruction (EDO), especially when the partial form of the disease is suspected clinically. Currently, there is no gold standard technique for diagnosing EDO. Transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS), which is the technique used most widely, can overdiagnose EDO. As adjunctive diagnostic techniques, duct chromotubation and seminal vesiculography cannot distinguish patients with partial obstruction from those without EDO. TRUS-guided seminal vesicle aspiration can be used in conjunction with TRUS to confirm the diagnosis pre

Congenital prostatic cysts are relatively uncommon and rarely symptomatic. We describe a 24-year-old man who presented with a 2-month history of anejaculation accompanied with bilateral epididymal pain. Transrectal ultrasonography of the prostate revealed a large midline prostatic cyst and bilateral dilatation of the seminal vesicles. Transrectal aspiration of the cyst resulted in return of antegrade ejaculation and resolution of epididymal pain.

We report 2 rare cases of single ectopic ureter simulating double vas deferens. Clinical, radiographic and macroscopic signs at operation indicated a single ectopic ureter opening into the seminal tract. However, histological examination of the surgical specimen revealed that the lumen of the supposed ureter was lined in part by columnar epithelium, although chiefly by transitional epithelium. The wall of the ureter contained 3 well defined muscular coats in case 1 but only 1 layer was distinguishable in case 2. Histological composition of the structure removed from the cranial site resembled

BACKGROUND: Zinner syndrome (ZS) is a congenital malformation characterized by a triad of mesonephric (Wolffian) duct dysplasia, first identified by Zinner in 1914. The classical presentation of ZS includes unilateral renal hypoplasia or dysplasia, ipsilateral seminal vesicle cysts, and obstruction of the ejaculatory duct. This case presents a rare variant of the syndrome, where an ejaculatory duct cyst is observed instead of the typical ipsilateral seminal vesicle cyst. The ejaculatory duct cyst affected the vas deferens bilaterally, leading to bilateral atrophy or erosion of the seminal vesi

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the characteristics of diagnosis and treatment of iatrogenic ejaculatory duct obstruction following prostatic hyperthermia.
METHODS: Retrospective analyses were made of the clinical data of 3 cases of ejaculatory duct obstruction following prostatic hyperthermia.
RESULTS: The 3 cases were diagnosed as urethrostenosis and deformity of the posterior urethra by transurethral ultrasound and semen analysis. And all the 3 patients had undergone prostatic hyperthermia for prostatitis. Transurethral resection of the ejaculatory duct (TURED) was performed to remove the obstr

Ejaculatory duct obstruction (EDO) is a rare but treatable cause of male infertility. This case report describes a 28-year-old male with obstructive azoospermia. The patient came to our hospital after a fertility check-up revealed azoospermia. A subsequent semen analysis confirmed azoospermia. Transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed bilaterally enlarged seminal vesicles and thickened, calcified ejaculatory duct walls. The patient underwent transurethral seminal vesiculoscopy and transurethral resection of the ejaculatory ducts (TURED) for presumed parti…

As far as we know this is the first report on bulking agent injection into intravesical ectopic ejaculatory orifices reported in the English literature. During a follow-up period of 23 months, the child was free of episodes of epididymo-orchitis. Deflux injection in this rare anomaly of intravesical refluxing ducts had prevented irreversible damage to the testes from recurrent EO. Thus, it may be a better option than vasectomy when antibiotic treatment fails.

The Drosophila Ejaculatory duct (ED) is a secretory tissue of the somatic male reproductive system. The ED is involved in the secretion of seminal fluid components and ED-specific antimicrobial peptides that aid in fertility and the female post-mating response. The ED is composed of secretory epithelial cells surrounded by a layer of innervated contractile muscle. The ED grows in young adult males during the first 24 h post-eclosion, but the cell cycle status of the ED secretory cells and the role of post-eclosion ED growth have been unexplored. Here, we show that secretory cells of the adult

An ejaculatory duct cyst is a rare and challenging problem for a urologist. Diagnosing these cases may be difficult as prior case reports showed that the condition has various clinical presentations from asymptomatic to major complications, such as recurrent urinary tract infections and infertility. We aimed to report a 26-year-old married man with seemingly unknown infertility, which was confirmed to be due to an ejaculatory duct cyst obstructing both ejaculatory ducts.
