Mixed cell populations consisting of enamel epithelium and pulp cells obtained from 18-day embryonic mouse tooth germs were cultured in vitro. Epithelial cells and pulp cells were also cultured individually and examined. Previous studies have suggested that the inner ear of some benthic species of elasmobranchs contain only exogenous material within their otoconial organs, a unique feature within vertebrates. Methodological aspects of quantitative X-ray microanalysis of semi-thick cryosections (2--6 micrometers) of biological soft tissue were investigated. Hyaline globules (HGs), spherical intracytoplasmic eosinophilic droplets, have been associated with a variety of conditions, including hepatocellular carcinoma, lung adenocarcinoma, and Kaposi's sarcoma, but they have not been described in cartilaginous tumors. Calculi removed from human prostates affected with nodular hyperplasia were analyzed with scanning electron microscopy and EDAX system. The general spectrum was made up of Na, Al, Mg, S, P, Ca and Zn. The elemental composition of goblet cells in bronchial epithelium was investigated by X-ray microanalysis. Biopsies were obtained from the left main bronchus, shock-frozen and freeze-substituted. Electron probe microanalysis demonstrates the presence of aluminium, magnesium, iron, calcium, phosphorus in and around blood vessels in the pallidum (vascular siderosis) and in the putaminal parenchyma in five out of six cases of striatonigral degeneration, associated with orthostatic hypotension in two of these cases. These results suggest that striatonigral degeneration could be the result of a vascular disease, the result of an elemental intoxication of unknown cause.

Yersinia enterocolitica 8081c cultures in exponential growth were incubated for 1 h in 0.1% microcrystalline bismuth subsalicylate (BSS) suspensions.
