Complete genome sequence analysis of tick-borne encephalitis viruses isolated in northeastern China.

Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) causes lethal encephalitis in humans, posing a growing public-health problem in many European and Asian countries. TBEV is currently endemic in northeastern China, but the complete genome sequences of Chinese TBEV strains have not been reported. During a TBE outbreak in 2010 in Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province, China, two TBEV strains were isolated from serum samples of two patients, and the complete sequences were determined and compared with other known TBEV strains. Both Mudanjiang isolates consisted of 10,774 nucleotides and encoded a single open

[Isolation of tick-borne encephalitis viruses from the cervical spinal cord in meningoencephalitis].

In 1988 the organs of a male were examined post mortem for the presence of viruses in isolation experiments on white suckling mice. The virus isolated from the cervical spinal cord was identified as the virus of tick-borne encephalitis. Although death from tick-borne encephalitis is rather rare in Slovakia, the disease requires great attention with special focus on preventive measures.

[Immunochip for differentiation of IgG to tick-borne encephalitis and West Nile fever viruses].

AIM: To demonstrate the possibility of development of test based on phosphorescent analysis (PHOSPHAN) for simultaneous identification and differentiation of specific IgG to tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) and West Nile fever (WNF) viruses. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty six serum samples from patients with TBE, twenty five from WNF, and sixty six fromclinically healthy donors were used for the study. Immunologic analysis was performed in plate wells with active microzones "printed" on the wells' bottom and corresponding the complex of virus-specific antigens with immobilized monoclonal antibodi

Distribution and characterization of tick-borne encephalitis viruses from Siberia and far-eastern Asia.

In this study, tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) viruses from Siberia and far-eastern Asia were characterized in order to determine virus subtype distribution. TBE viruses were isolated from ticks (Ixodes persulcatus) collected in the far-eastern (Khabarovsk and Vladivostok) and Siberian (Irkutsk) regions of Russia in 1999. Phylogenetic analysis showed that isolates formed distinct clusters of far-eastern and Siberian subtypes. There was also a minor difference in antigenicity between the Irkutsk isolates and other TBE virus strains, as demonstrated by the reactivity of monoclonal antibodies. Amin

Sequence analysis and genetic classification of tick-borne encephalitis viruses from Europe and Asia.

The epidemiology of tick-borne encephalitis virus was investigated by comparative sequence analysis of virus strains isolated in endemic areas of Europe and Asia. Phylogenetic relationships were determined from the nucleotide and amino acid sequences of the major envelope (E) protein of 16 newly sequenced strains and nine previously published sequences. Three genetic lineages could be clearly distinguished, corresponding to a European, a Far Eastern and a Siberian subtype. Amino acids characteristic for each of the subtypes ('signature' amino a cids) were identified and their location in the a

[Use of an immunofluorescence micromethod for determining the antigens of the influenza and tick-borne encephalitis viruses].

The diagnostic possibilities of several variants of the solid-phase immunofluorescent micromethod (requiring 100-200 microliter of the reaction mixture), intended for the determination of influenza virus and tick-borne encephalitis virus antigens in material obtained from patients and ticks, have been studied. A high degree of correlation between the results obtained by the methods under investigation and the control methods has been established.
