Minimalistic approach to enhanced recovery after pediatric scoliosis surgery.

PURPOSE: Prior studies of enhanced recovery protocols (ERP) have been conducted at large institutions with abundant resources. These results may not apply at institutions with less resources directed to quality improvement efforts. The purpose of this study was to assess the value of a minimalistic enhanced recovery protocol in reducing length of stay (LOS) following PSF for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. We hypothesized that accelerated transition to oral pain medications and mobilization alone could shorten hospital length of stay in the absence of a formal multimodal pain regimen. METHOD

[Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS®) in cardiac anesthesia].

Enhanced Recovery After Cardiac Surgery (ERACS) is a multidisciplinary and multiprofessional treatment approach in cardiac surgery. Recently, a transfer and adaptation of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols from other disciplines, such as colorectal surgery, to cardiac surgery has been performed in different settings. First, prehabilitation programs have been established and investigated to improve patients' physical, psychological and nutritional status including treatment of preoperative anemia. Second, intraoperative therapeutic steps are described, such as infection reduction

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery and Acute Postoperative Pain Management.

Enhanced recovery pathways were first developed in colorectal surgery and have since been adapted to other surgical subspecialties including gynecologic surgery. Mounting evidence has shown that the adoption of a standardized perioperative pathway based on evidence-based literature reduces length of hospital stay, reduces cost, reduces opioid requirements with stable to improved pain scores, and accelerates return to normal function as measured by validated patient reported outcomes measurements. The many elements of enhanced recovery may be distilled into 3 concepts: (1) optimizing nutrition

Benefits of enhanced recovery after surgery in robotic nephrectomy.

PURPOSE: Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) is an evidence-based perioperative care approach aimed at attenuating surgical stress response and facilitating patient recovery. This study compared postoperative outcomes between an ERAS perioperative model to a traditional, unstandardized perioperative care practice in patients undergoing robotic nephrectomy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 206 patients who underwent robotic renal surgery were stratified into traditional and ERAS cohorts. In total, 111 patients received the ERAS pathway, and 95 received traditional care. Data was collected

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS): Transforming Orthopedic Trauma Management.

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols represent a paradigm shift in perioperative care, emphasizing evidence-based multidisciplinary approaches to optimize surgical outcomes. This narrative review examines the current evidence for ERAS implementation in orthopedic trauma care by synthesizing literature from major medical databases. The ERAS protocols in patients with hip fractures demonstrate robust evidence for improved outcomes, including reduced hospital length of stay, decreased complication rates, lower delirium and infection rates, and improved pain control with reduced opioid

[Research progress of acupuncture in enhanced recovery after surgery].

The concept of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) is based on evidence-based medicine. By optimizing the treatment measures, the stress response of the body is reduced to meet the body's metabolic changes during the perioperative period, so as to achieve the purpose of accelerating recovery. In the perioperative period, acupuncture can relieve patients' preoperative anxiety, shorten fasting time, reduce the amount of anesthetics, protect organ function, reduce postoperative pain, reduce postoperative nausea and vomiting, and speed up postoperative recovery. The addition of acupuncture inte

Enhanced recovery after surgery-based recovery room nursing improves perioperative safety in gastrointestinal tumor surgery.

BACKGROUND: Gastrointestinal (GI) tumors are among the most prevalent malignancies, and surgical intervention remains a primary treatment modality. However, the complexity of GI surgery often leads to prolonged recovery and high postoperative complication rates, which threaten patient safety and functional outcomes. Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) principles have been shown to improve perioperative outcomes through evidence-based, multidisciplinary care pathways. Despite its widespread adoption, there is a paucity of research focusing specifically on optimizing ERAS-guided nursing proce

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery: Opioid Sparing Strategies After Discharge: A Review.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Many surgical subspecialties have developed enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocols that focus on multimodal analgesia to limit opioid use during a hospital stay and improve patient recovery. Unfortunately, ERAS protocols do not extend to post-discharge patient care, and opioids continue to be over prescribed. The primary reason seems to be a lack of good quality research evaluating extended use of a multimodal analgesic approach. This review was undertaken to evaluate available evidence for non-opioid analgesics in the postoperative period after discharge, utilizin

Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) in advanced therapeutic flexible endoscopy: Introducing the concept of enhanced recovery after therapeutic endoscopy (ERATE).

Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) guidelines are evidence-based recommendations designed to improve patient outcomes and reduce complications after surgery. Although the ERAS guidelines focus primarily on surgical procedures, many of the principles could be applied also to therapeutic endoscopy as well. An extensive literature research on Embase and PubMed was thus made to reviewed articles regarding ERAS protocols applied to therapeutic endoscopy, organized by specific endoscopic field. Out of 214 papers, only 6 were relevant to the topic. Few studies explored in real life and in trial s

Enhanced recovery after surgery for inflammatory bowel disease surgery: A systematic review.

Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) protocols, though well-established across surgical disciplines, remains underutilized in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) surgeries due to complexities like malnutrition and immunosuppression. This systematic review evaluated 13 studies involving 3,539 patients to assess the impact of ERAS implementation in IBD surgery. Data consistently showed that ERAS protocols reduced hospital stay, expedited bowel function return and decreased complications and readmissions compared to conventional care. Key components included nutritional optimization, laparoscopic
