Eucalyptus oil is a widely available essential oil with therapeutic applications, but its toxic effects following ingestion are significant. We report a fatal case of eucalyptus oil poisoning in an adult male who mistakenly ingested 15 mL of eucalyptus oil stored in a cough syrup container. The patient developed generalized tonic-clonic seizures within minutes, followed by unresponsiveness and respiratory depression. Despite intubation and supportive treatment, he suffered a cardiac arrest and was revived after cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). However, multiple seizure episodes persisted,

BACKGROUND: Helicobacter pylori, an infective agent of more than 50% of the world population is prominent to be the main causative factor in the etiologies of chronic, active or type B gastritis, peptic and duodenal ulcer, gastric carcinoma, and mucosa-associated lymphoid tumors. A high prevalence of this bacterium in dental plaque is always reported. Pharmacological treatment of H. pylori infections includes administration of 3-fold therapeutic regimens which are typically used to suppress H. pylori activity. However, antibiotic resistance frequently develops as a consequence of such treatmen

The Eucalyptus globulus essential oil (EGEO) is widely recognized for its pharmacological relevance; however, comprehensive evaluation of its phytochemical composition and bioactivities remains limited. In this study, EGEO was extracted from fresh leaves via hydro-distillation and characterized using GC-MS, LCMS, FTIR, and UV-Visible spectroscopy. Qualitative screening confirmed the presence of key secondary metabolites, including triterpenoids, flavonoids, phenols, steroids. Quantitative analysis revealed high levels of total phenolics (65.12 ± 0.01 mg GAE/g) and flavonoids (57.75 ± 0.01 mg Q

Honey bees (Apis mellifera L.) are essential for ecosystem stability and agricultural production; however, one of the most destructive threats to colonies is the mite Varroa destructor. Although conventional chemical acaricides can provide short-term control, resistance development and residue concerns remain major challenges. Plant-derived essential oils have therefore attracted attention as alternative control agents. In this study, the field efficacy of nanoemulsions (NEms) prepared from peppermint (Mentha piperita; P-NEms), thyme (Thymus vulgaris; T-NEms), and eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globul

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Plant-based products can provide safe and biodegradable mosquito control agents. The essential oils have a strong odor due to complex secondary metabolites and exhibit lower density than that of water, which renders them suitable to form a thin layer above the water surface. The present study was designed to evaluate the larvicidal, pupicidal activity of Eucalyptus and neem oils against Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We evaluated the activity of commercially available Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) and neem (Azadirachta indica) oils aga

Leptotrombidium pallidum (Nagoya, Miyagawa, Mitamura & Tamiya) is a primary vector of Orientia tsutsugamushi (Hyashi), the causative agent of scrub typhus. An assessment is made of the repellency to L. pallidum larvae (chiggers) of cassia bark, eucalyptus, and star anise oils and major constituents (E)-cinnamaldehyde, 1,8-cineole, and (E)-anethole of the corresponding oils. Results were compared with those of conventional repellents DEET (N,N-diethyl-3-methylbenzamide), IR3535 [(ethyl 3-[acetyl(butyl)amino]propanoate)], and permethrin. Based on the median repellent concentration (RC50) values,

Antimicrobial and anticancer drug resistance is an increasing concern, driving interest in plant-based nanoformulations. Here, we developed and compared nanoemulsions containing Eucalyptus globulus essential oil (EO), Laurus nobilis EO, and their main constituent, 1,8-cineole. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) revealed 1,8-cineole content of 49.5% in E. globulus EO and 37.9% in L. nobilis EO. Nanoemulsions were prepared by spontaneous emulsification and characterized for droplet size (dynamic light scattering) and zeta potential. Attenuated Total Reflectance-Fourier Transform Infrar

Dengue, chikungunya, and yellow fever are important vector-borne diseases transmitted by female mosquitoes when they feed on humans. The use of repellents based on natural products is an alternative for personal protection against these diseases. Application of chemicals with larvicidal activity is another strategy for controlling the mosquito population. The repellent and larvicidal activities of the essential oil from Eucalyptus nitens were tested against Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, the main vectors of these arboviruses. The essential oil was extracted by hydrodistillation and then a

BACKGROUND: There are two components to the clinical efficacy of pediculicides: (i) efficacy against the crawling-stages (lousicidal efficacy); and (ii) efficacy against the eggs (ovicidal efficacy). Lousicidal efficacy and ovicidal efficacy are confounded in clinical trials. Here we report on a trial that was specially designed to rank the clinical ovicidal efficacy of pediculicides. Eggs were collected, pre-treatment and post-treatment, from subjects with different types of hair, different coloured hair and hair of different length.
METHOD: Subjects with at least 20 live eggs of Pediculus c

Ticks are of great economic importance to humans and animals due to their role in disease transmission. The application of synthetic, chemical acaricides on the animal and/or the environment (the most used tick control method globally) has led to the selection of tick populations that are resistant. Their adverse effects on ecology and human and animal health cannot be overemphasised. As a result, the search for alternatives that are natural and can overcome these adverse effects are strongly indicated. Using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and adult immersion test (AIT), this stu
