Claustrophobia Symptoms in Individuals Undergoing FDG-PET Imaging: Evidence-Based Implications for Nursing Management.

BackgroundFluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) is an indispensable imaging modality within precision medical practice. Nevertheless, the enclosed scanner space often triggers claustrophobic distress in scanned patients. This cross-sectional research aimed to quantify the prevalence of claustrophobia among individuals receiving FDG-PET scans and clarify relevant predictive factors linked to this adverse emotional response.MethodsA single-center cross-sectional investigation enrolled a total of 542 participants who completed FDG-PET imaging from March 2025 to November 2025.

Health Promotion in an Opioid Treatment Program: An Evidence-Based Nursing Quality Improvement Project.

Community assessment and review of the literature indicate that individuals supported in opioid treatment programs are at a significant disadvantage for access to preventative and primary healthcare. In addition, this population faces increased comorbidities and chronic disease. Finally, access to housing, nutritious food, and other social determinants of health is also a challenge for these individuals. This project, aimed at addressing healthcare disparities and improving health outcomes for the opioid treatment program client, was undertaken at a large, private, not-for-profit, community me

The Nurse-Family Partnership: evidence-based public health in response to child maltreatment.

Too many Canadian children are exposed to child maltreatment-neglect, emotional maltreatment, exposure to intimate partner violence, and physical and sexual abuse. Retrospective data indicates that 32% of Canadian adults have experienced childhood abuse. There is evidence that child maltreatment is associated with a wide array of negative health consequences across the life span. These consequences expand across physical, mental, developmental and social domains to include suicide, substance abuse, anxiety, depression and physical health problems. Experts have asked for coordinated national le

OBJECTIVES: To assess the knowledge of recommended urinary catheter care practices among nursing home (NH) healthcare workers (HCWs) in southeast Michigan. DESIGN: Self-administered survey. SETTING: Seven NHs in southeast Michigan. PARTICIPANTS: HCWs. MEASUREMENTS: The survey included questions about respondent characteristics and knowledge about indications, care, and personal hygiene pertaining to urinary catheters. Explicit, evidence-based criteria to assess the quality of prescribing to elderly nursing home residents.

BACKGROUND: prescribing in nursing homes is frequently suboptimal. Indicators to measure prescribing quality, including appropriateness of prescribing certain drugs or combinations of drugs, to hospital inpatients have been developed previously. OBJECTIVE: to modify prescribing indicators, including appropriateness of prescribing algorithms developed in the hospital setting, for use in nursing homes. DESIGN: an audit of prescribing to patients resident in a random sample of nursing homes on a single day. Setting, subjects: 22 nursing homes in the former South Thames Region selected from list

Observation of the clinical effectiveness of evidence-based nursing for patients with a vertebral osteoporotic fracture.

BACKGROUND: An osteoporotic fracture (OPF) can significantly affect patients' activities of daily living (ADLs). OBJECTIVE: This study observed the effects of evidence-based nursing (EBN) on the occurrence of postoperative complications and ADLs in patients with a vertebral OPF. METHODS: A total of 90 patients with vertebral OPF were divided into two groups. The conventional orthopedic nursing method was conducted for the control group, and the EBN model was delivered for the observation group. RESULTS: Differences in the Barthel index (BI) score on the first day of admission were not stati

Polish nurses' perceived barriers in using evidence-based practice in pain management.

AIM: The aim of this work was to present current practices, perceived barriers and perceived facilitators of Polish nurses in using EBP in the assessment and management of acute pain during the postoperative period in elderly patients. BACKGROUND: Advances in the study of pain and the methods for its relief since the late 1980s have led to a rise in the role of the nurse in pain management and monitoring. INTRODUCTION: The application of evidence-based practice associated with acute pain is on the increase in the world at large. METHODS: Eleven hospitals participated in this study. The proj

Teaching evidence-based practice in undergraduate nursing education: why research must move beyond the classroom.

BACKGROUND: Evidence-based practice (EBP) is positioned as a core expectation of undergraduate nursing education, yet the research used to justify curricular approaches remains uneven in quality and relevance. Current literature frequently reports improved student knowledge, skills and attitudes following EBP teaching, but there is limited evidence that these gains are sustained in practice. AIM: To offer a critical reflection on the current direction of research on teaching EBP in undergraduate nursing education and to identify priorities for a more clinically meaningful research agenda. Evidence-based nursing interventions in cognitive dysfunction among adults with brain injury: a quasi-experiment.

BACKGROUND: While evidence-based interventions are increasingly used in cognitive care, their effectiveness for patients with brain injury remains not well established. Therefore, we aimed to compare the effects of an evidence-based nursing intervention programme vs. conventional nursing care in patients with cognitive dysfunction following brain injury. METHODS: We enrolled brain injury patients from two neurosurgical wards (A and B) of a Shanghai rehabilitation hospital (July 2023-January 2024) in a non-randomised controlled trial. Ward A implemented the evidence-based cognitive interventio

OBJECTIVE: To explore the application of evidence-based nursing (EBN) in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) complicated with heart failure. METHODS: A total of 76 patients with acute myocardial infarction complicated with heart failure after Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Intervention (PCI) were admitted to the Department of Cardiology of our hospital from April 2018 to October 2019 and randomly divided into the control group and the experimental group, with 38 patients in each group. The control group received routine nursing and the experimental group received EBN nursing.

Nutrition and dementia care: developing an evidence-based model for nutritional care in nursing homes.

BACKGROUND: There is a growing volume of research to offer improvements in nutritional care for people with dementia living in nursing homes. Whilst a number of interventions have been identified to support food and drink intake, there has been no systematic research to understand the factors for improving nutritional care from the perspectives of all those delivering care in nursing homes. The aim of this study was to develop a research informed model for understanding the complex nutritional problems associated with eating and drinking for people with dementia. METHODS: We conducted nine fo

Evaluation of musculoskeletal pain management practices in rural nursing homes compared with evidence-based criteria.

Chronic pain, mainly associated with musculoskeletal diagnoses, is inadequately and often inappropriately treated in nursing home residents. The purpose of this descriptive study is to identify the musculoskeletal diagnoses associated with pain and to compare pain management of a sample of nursing home residents with the 1998 evidence-based guideline proposed by the American Geriatrics Society (AGS). The sample consists of 215 residents from 13 rural Iowa nursing home homes. The residents answered a series of face-to-face questions that addressed the presence/absence of pain and completed the
