Laparoscopic repair of sciatic hernia recognizing the ureterohypogastric nerve fascia and vesicohypogastric fascia: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Sciatic hernias are rare pelvic floor hernias that occur through the sciatic foramen and often present as abdominal or pelvic pain, particularly in women. Historically, they were repaired using an open approach, with limited reports on their laparoscopic treatment. CASE PRESENTATION: Here we present the case of an 85-year-old woman who had repeated abdominal pain and was referred to our hospital for sciatic hernia surgery after conservative treatment. We laparoscopically observed the deep pelvis and identified the right sciatic hernia. When an extraperitoneal space was dissected,

[Contraction of the tensor fasciae latae muscle of the fascia of the broad thigh and flexion of the knee joint in the runners].

OBJECTIVE: Introduction: The illustration of the ranges of bending the limb during the outflow allowed to divide the study group into two parts. In the majority of respondents, the initial flexion prevailed over the final one. The researchers focused on finding the reasons for the advantage of the final bend over the initial one in 30% of the subjects. The aim: The analysis of the dynamic stride under the control of the MVN Biomech system in the bending of the knee joint of the lateral limb, comparing the preparation to the leg (initial bending) and its ending (final). PATIENTS AND METHODS: M

The deep cervical fascia neck lift.

The main and more frequent problem in face lift is recurrence of neck bands. To improve face lift stability, a new aging analysis is proposed. The visible sign of face aging is skin excess. Superficial musculo aponeurotic system (SMAS) retraction is a much less visible sign. Nevertheless, botulinum toxin injections elongate muscles of the SMAS and rejuvenate the face. In the Face Recurve Concept, MRI studies prove the mimic muscles retraction that comes with aging. Face lift techniques include SMAS plication, traction or excision, which increases discrepancy between the envelope, the skin and

Wound healing in acutely injured fascia.

Fascial healing following acute injury, such as that occurring during surgical procedures, is defined functionally. For example, failure of fascial healing following celiotomy is only identified when incisional hernias are diagnosed. Such hernias incur billions of dollars per year in medical costs. Despite the importance of fascial healing, there is a paucity of data regarding the quality such healing. In clinical settings, the quantification of fascial wound healing is limited to a binary state: either there is no clinically apparent functional deficit and full fascia healing is assumed, or a

Coronal incision with preserved temporoparietal fascia.

BACKGROUND: The conventional or zigzag bicoronal incision has been widely used in craniofacial surgery. Unfortunately, after the incision, the temporoparietal (TP) fascia has to be abandoned because of its vascular or structural damages. OBJECTIVE: The author describes a technique to preserve the TP fascia during the incision. METHODS: The coronal incision stopped at the subcutaneous plane. The dissection continued subcutaneously under the posterior edge of the incision as in the elevation of TP fascia. After cutting through the TP fascia, the dissection continued anteriorly in the subgaleal

[The pedicled superficial fascia temporalis flap].

INTRODUCTION: The technique used for reconstruction of a cervicofacial defect depends on the extent of the tissue loss. Locoregional or free flaps are commonly used for this type of reconstruction. The type of flap used depends on donor site availability and morbidity. The aim of this technical note was to present appropriate use of the fascia temporalis flap in maxillofacial surgery. ANATOMIC BASIS: The superficial fascia temporalis lies just under the scalp. Blood is supplied via the superficial temporal artery which widely irrigates this anatomic region. Venous blood is drained by the super

Penile resurfacing with vascularized fascia lata.

Penis resurfacing is a challenging procedure, and should simultaneously ensure erectile function, tactile sensibility, sexual satisfaction, and aesthetic integrity. This article presents three cases with penile skin defects treated by means of a pedicled fascia lata attached either to the tensor fascia lata (one case) or an anterolateral thigh flap (two cases). The cause of the wounds included electrical burn, Fournier's gangrene, and self-mutilation. The size of flaps ranged from 10-13 cm in width and 15-30 cm in length. All flaps included vascularized fascia lata, which covered part or the c

Fascia lata suspension of malpositioned ears.

A new technique for the correction of malpositioned ears in congenital or acquired disorders is described. The use of a fascia lata strip makes a rigid fixation of the ear to the pericranium possible without total fixation of the ear in all directions. The configuration of the auricle is not altered, and the scars are inconspicuous.

Fascia lata valves: a clinicopathological study.

Sixteen frame-mounted fascia lata valves removed from the mitral, aortic or--in one patient--pulmonary position have been detailed histologically. These valves had remained in 15 patients (11 men and four women) for periods varying between 10 and 44 months. The reason for the original transplantation was either chronic rheumatic endocarditis or calcific aortic disease. In the mitral position, the leaflet in position nearest the site of the original anterior mitral valve cusp showed the least changes. The remaining two leaflets of the fascia lata valve in the mitral position, as well as those r

Autologous fascia lata cardiac valve replacement.

During a three-month period, 20 patients had one or more cardiac valves replaced with mounted autologous fascia lata valves. Only six remain alive. Insufficiency of the implanted valve and thromboembolic complications were frequent. Histological examination demonstrates degenerative changes in the fascia lata and explains the thromboembolic phenomena.

Nano-Arthroscopic Plantar Fascia Release Technique.

Multiple open and endoscopic techniques have been described for recalcitrant cases of plantar fasciitis. Compared with open techniques, endoscopic plantar fasciotomy has been shown to be safe and effective with decreased postoperative pain and quicker recovery, as well as decreased risk of soft tissue and neurovascular injury, while retaining the ability to provide direct visualization of the plantar fascia to facilitate proper release. Single-portal endoscopic techniques may offer additional advantages including less portal site and postoperative pain, earlier return to activities, and cost-e

Temporoparietal fascia flap for auricular reconstruction.

INTRODUCTION: Microtia is a congenital malformation of the auricle. The most common complication of microtia surgical repair is costal cartilage exposure. We describe the case of a patient with costal cartilage exposure and the use of temporoparietal fascia flap (TPFF) for covering purposes. CLINICAL CASE: 12-year-old male patient with right microtia undergoing two auricle reconstruction surgeries. One month following the second surgery, costal cartilage exposure was noted, with loss of grafted skin. A TPFF and a scalp skin graft were performed to cover the exposed cartilage. COMMENTS: An ad

Congenital ptosis: Long-term outcome of frontalis suspension using autogenous temporal fascia or fascia lata in children.

Children with severe congenital blepharoptosis are at risk of developing amblyopia. For this reason, ptosis repair is indicated as soon as the diagnosis is made. Frontalis suspension of the upper lid is an effective and simple method of treatment. This study reports on the long-term outcome of frontalis suspension surgery for congenital ptosis using autogenous sling material. Twelve children with severe congenital ptosis underwent frontalis suspension surgery using autologous fascia lata or temporal fascia. The results were assessed with a mean follow-up period of 8 years. Eleven children had

The Role of the Fascia-Only Anterolateral Thigh Flap in Extremity Reconstruction: The Fascia-Only Anterolateral Thigh Flap.

BACKGROUND: Free flap selection in extremity reconstruction can be challenging. The ideal flap has to be thin and pliable to achieve optimal contour and function. We explore the role of the fascia-only anterolateral thigh (fALT) flap in extremity reconstruction. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective review of our experience using fALT-free flap for extremity reconstruction over a 2-year period. Patient demographics, mechanism of injury, flap characteristics, complications- and follow-up were recorded. Descriptive statistics were calculated. RESULTS: Twelve patients were included.
