Species of the Ferula genus are known for their traditional medicinal applications against diverse illnesses. Our previous study was the first to suggest the cholinesterase inhibitory activity of Ferula persica L. However, the neuroprotective efficacy of therapeutic molecules is often limited by their ability to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and reach the brain. In the present study, the BBB permeability of the main molecules present in the aerial parts and roots of F. persica L. extracted under optimum conditions was assessed using two well-established methods: the parallel artificial m

BACKGROUND: Haemonchosis is a fatal disease of small ruminants caused by the parasite Haemonchus contortus (H. contortus). The most common drugs used in the treatment of H. contortus include albendazole, oxfendazole, and ivermectin. However, as previously reported in the treatment of haemonchosis, these medicines have acquired drug resistance problems over time. Interestingly, natural plant compounds have demonstrated promising effects in the treatment of H. contortus. Therefore, the current study evaluated the effects of plant extract, Ferula asafetida, against common drugs such as albendazol

BACKGROUND: The aim of the present registry study was to evaluate the efficacy of a new natural product (Menotrack, Alchem, India) in otherwise healthy post-menopausal women with significant symptoms. The products obtained from Ferula have been used for a long time. Ferula is a genus of about 220 species of flowering plants in the family Apiaceae, native to the Mediterranean region east to central Asia, mostly growing in arid climates. Many plants of this genus, especially F. communis, are referred to as "giant fennel," although they are not fennels. The resin of Ferula species has been used f

Despite the availability of various synthetic drugs for the treatment of functional dyspepsia (FD), the side effects and their cost have always created a great interest in the search for novel natural alternatives for the management of gut disorders. The present contribution reports the safety and efficacy of the kitchen spice asafoetida (Ferula asafoetida) in FD for the first time. In the double-blinded, placebo-controlled study, 43 subjects diagnosed to have moderate to severe discomforts of nonulcer FD were randomized to receive hard-shell capsules (250 mg × 2/day) of either placebo (n=22)
