A comparative study of validated spectrophotometric and TLC- spectrodensitometric methods for the determination of sodium cromoglicate and fluorometholone in ophthalmic solution.

The determination of sodium cromoglicate (SCG) and fluorometholone (FLU) in ophthalmic solution was developed by simple, sensitive and precise methods. Three spectrophotometric methods were applied: absorptivity factor (a-Factor method), absorption factor (AFM) and mean centering of ratio spectra (MCR). The linearity ranges of SCG were found to be (2.5-35 μg/mL) for (a-Factor method) and (MCR); while for (AFM), it was found to be (7.5-50 μg/mL). The linearity ranges of FLU were found to be (4-16 μg/mL) for (a-Factor method) and (AFM); while for (MCR), it was found to be (2-16 μg/mL). The mean

Efficacy of N-acetyl aspartyl glutamic acid versus fluorometholone for treating allergic conjunctivitis in an environmental exposure chamber.

BACKGROUND: Topical mast cell stabilizers were previously shown to treat the signs and symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic conjunctivitis safely and effectively in active and placebo-controlled trials. However, mast cell stabilizers have not been compared to topical corticosteroids for efficacy. We tested the non-inferiority of a topical mast cell stabilizer, N-acetyl aspartyl glutamic acid (4.9%, NAAGA), compared to fluorometholone (0.1%, FM) during controlled exposures to the airborne birch pollen allergen, Bet v 1, in an environmental exposure chamber (EEC). METHODS: This randomize

Study of Effects of Topical Fluorometholone on Tear MCP-1 in Eyes Undergoing Trabeculectomy: Effect on Early Trabeculectomy Outcomes in Asian Glaucoma Patients.

Objectives: We aimed to determine if a 2-week pre-operative course of fluorometholone (FML) eyedrops in chronically medicated glaucoma patients reduces the levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokine Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein 1 (MCP-1) and improves early post-operative outcomes after trabeculectomy or phaco-trabeculectomy. Methods: We conducted a single-center, unmasked, prospective pilot interventional case series of 36 patients with glaucoma who received a 2-week course of FML eyedrops prior to undergoing trabeculectomy. A multiplex bead assay was used to quantify the presence of MCP-1 le

Evaluation of fluorometholone as adjunctive medical therapy for trachomatous trichiasis surgery (FLAME): a parallel, double-blind, randomised controlled field trial in the Jimma Zone, Ethiopia.

BACKGROUND: In trachoma, trachomatous trichiasis mediates visual impairment. Trachomatous trichiasis surgery has an unacceptably high relapse incidence. We hypothesised that anti-inflammatory therapy with fluorometholone 0·1% suspension (hereafter fluorometholone) eyedrops perioperatively twice daily for 28 days would safely, efficaciously, and cost-effectively reduce postoperative trachomatous trichiasis relapse (PTT). METHODS: In this randomised, parallel, placebo-controlled trial, we compared placebo (artificial tears) with fluorometholone for eyes undergoing trachomatous trichiasis surger
