Persistent cloaca, fused kidneys, female pseudohermaphroditism and skeletal anomalies in a simmental calf.

A 5-day-old Simmental calf was referred to our department for atresia ani and postural abnormalities caused by skeletal deformities. The calf had a short and deviated tail and a bowed hind limb. The calf appeared like a male because of the prepuce and penis located just near the teats and the absence of female external genitalia. During the necropsy, a horseshoe kidney, single ureter that originated from the kidney, and bilateral uterine horns with one ovary each were detected. The ureter, blind-ended large intestine, and bilateral uterine horns were connected to a dilated cloaca having two sa

Persistent Mullerian Duct Syndrome with Embryonal Cell Carcinoma along with Ectopic Cross Fused Kidney.

Persistent Mullerian Duct Syndrome (PMDS) is a form of internal male pseudohermaphroditism, where there is normal development of male secondary sexual characters, along with the presence of bilateral fallopian tubes and uterus. Majority of these cases go undetected and some cases are accidentally diagnosed while investigating for other problems. Cross fused renal ectopia is a condition where one kidney lies in the opposite side, fused to the other kidney. We present an extremely rare case of a phenotypical male presenting with mass per abdomen and bilateral cryptorchidism, turned out to have u

Zero Ischemia Open Partial Nephrectomy in Crossed Fused Ectopic Kidney - A Rare but Real Challenge.

Crossed fused renal ectopia (CFRE) is a rare congenital anomaly with both kidneys located on the same side of the retroperitoneal space. Due to complex anatomy, any renal tumours arising from this congenital anomaly will require careful pre-operative planning and intra-operating management to ensure oncological clearance while maximizing renal function. In this clinical case, a 57-year-old lady was referred to our center with a left to right CFRE and a 10cmx8cmx8cm mass arising from the interpolar region of left ectopic kidney on a background of multiple medical co-morbidities including stage

A Case of Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser Syndrome with a Fused Pancake-shaped Pelvic Kidney.

Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) Syndrome is a female reproductive system disorder. It is characterized by a defect in the Müllerian ducts development, and it causes the absence of the uterus in variable degrees in upper vaginal hypoplasia. In addition, it is often associated with the unilateral renal dysplasia. Müllerian agenesis affects 1 in 4500 newborn girls and is considered as a sporadic anomaly. Women with MRKH Syndrome have a normal female chromosome pattern 46, XX with normal ovarian function. The presence of bilateral kidney agenesis with a pelvic pancake-shaped kidney is a rare

Ovulatory dysuria: a bizarre presentation of crossed non-fused ectopic kidney with extra renal pelvis.

Ectopic kidneys are a unique form of congenital anomaly that in most cases remain asymptomatic. However, depending on the location and the associated anatomical variations, they can mimic certain more common conditions, posing a challenge in differential diagnosis. They could cause secondary symptoms by virtue of their location or could falsely mimic a primary urologic problem when the etiology might be from a closely opposed adjacent structure. We present a unique case of ovulatory dysuria in a young female with a crossed non-fused ectopic kidney. The patient's symptoms were recurrent and cor

Laparoscopic nephrectomy in crossed-fused inferior ectopic kidneys - Defusing complexities: A case series.

BACKGROUND: Crossed fused renal ectopia manifests as an operative challenge to the minimally invasive urologist. Provided that certain preset steps are meticulously followed and the anatomy is understood, it is not a difficult task to operate on these cases. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This is a retrospective study of 15 cases at our Dr. RMLIMS, Lucknow over a period of 5 years. RESULTS: The mean operative time was 117.3 minutes and the mean blood loss was 99.3 ml. Two arteries were encountered in 53.3 % of cases, but they can vary in number from a single artery to even six, as found in our series

[A Case of Renal Cell Carcinoma in a Crossed Fused Ectopic Kidney Treated with Partial Nephrectomy].

A 76-year-old man came to the department of gastrointestinal medicine with lower left abdominal discomfort and constipation. A crossed fused ectopic kidney with a renal tumor in the left upper pole of the kidney was detected by computed tomography. We performed left partial nephrectomy safely in spite of the complicated shape and complexity of the blood vessels. The pathological diagnosis was clear cell renal cell carcinoma, pT3a, with a negative surgical margin. After surgery, renal function was well preserved.

Pelviureteric junction obstruction of the ipsilateral kidney caused by hydronephrosis secondary to crossed fused renal ectopia.

INTRODUCTION: Crossed fused renal ectopia is rare and usually asymptomatic. However, it is associated with urological anomalies. CASE PRESENTATION: A 15-year-old Japanese boy was transported to our hospital with right abdominal pain and hematuria after a soccer ball hit his right abdomen. Computed tomography revealed right hydronephrosis beyond the center of the body and no left kidney. Percutaneous nephrostomy was performed immediately, and a pyeloplasty was scheduled for 5 months later. Right hydronephrosis was noted to have been caused by left pelvic expansion due to a crossed fused ectopi

SUCCESSFUL REPAIR OF IATROGENIC URETERAL INJURY IN A PATIENT WITH ECTOPIC CROSSED AND FUSED RIGHT KIDNEY BY URETEROURETEROSTOMY.

Congenital renal malformations are the most common congenital malformations in humans, the most common being horseshoe kidney with joined lower poles present in up to 0.25% of general population. To the contrary renal fusions with ectopia are amongst the rare malformations affecting 1 in 2000 examined cadavers. Males are affected slightly more often then females (3:2), left to right crosses being more frequent. The value of early diagnosis of asymptomatic renal malformation is uncertain, except when other abnormalities might point to them and they can affect the clinical management strategy (s

Successful transplantation of a split crossed fused ectopic kidney into a patient with end-stage renal disease.

Potential donors with congenital renal anomalies but normal renal function are often overlooked because of a possible increase in technical difficulty and complications associated with the surgery. However, as the waiting list for a deceased donor kidney transplant continues to grow, it is important to consider these kidneys for potential transplant. This paper describes the procurement of a crossed fused ectopic kidney, and subsequent parenchymal transection prior to transplantation as part of a combined simultaneous kidney pancreas transplant. The transplant was uncomplicated, and the graft

Fused Supernumerary Kidney with Single Pelvis and Ureter; Presenting with Stones: A Case Report and Literature Review.

INTRODUCTION: A supernumerary kidney is an extremely rare congenital anomaly, defined as the presence of one or more extra kidneys. Thus far, there have been less than 100 cases reported in the medical literature. It has its capsule, vascular supply, and collecting system. It frequently causes diagnostic challenges in clinical practice. The supernumerary kidney can be symptomatic due to the presence of stone. CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of a 19-year-old male patient who came to our clinic with the complaint of abdominal pain. On computed tomography urography (CTU), he was found to ha

A radiological evaluation of crossed-fused ectopic kidney in adult female: Case report and comprehensive review of literature.

Crossed renal ectopia with fusion is a rare congenital kidney anomaly where the kidneys are fused and cross each other. Patients are asymptomatic while some may experience lower abdominal pain, hematuria, fever, urinary tract infection, hypertension, renal failure, and a palpable abdominal mass. It is often discovered incidentally during evaluations for related conditions like renal stones, pyelonephritis, vesico-ureteric reflux, cysts, or malignancy, with renal cell carcinoma being the most common. Diagnosis of crossed-fused renal ectopia can be done through abdominal ultrasonography, retrogr

Large Renal Calculus in a Patient With Crossed Fused Ectopic Kidney Managed With Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy: A Case Report.

Congenital anomalies are not regularly seen in day-to-day practice. Crossed fused renal anomalies are even rarer. A 50-year-old female patient presented with right-sided pain in the abdomen with intermittent episodes of burning micturition. The patient was a known case of Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser syndrome. X-ray of the kidney, ureter, and bladder showed right-sided renal calculus. Computed tomography showed non-visualization of the left kidney in the left renal fossa but was crossed over to the right kidney with right renal pelvic calculus. A diagnosis of crossed fused kidney with calcul

Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser Syndrome Type II with Fused Kidneys in Pelvic Cavity: A Case Report.

Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome (MRKH) also known as Müllerian agenesis, is caused by embryologic underdevelopment of the Mullerian duct, with resultant agenesis or atresia of the vagina, uterus, or both. Patients usually present with primary amenorrhea with normal growth and pubertal development. Here we present a case of a 29-year-old woman presented with primary amenorrhea. Secondary sexual characteristics and hormone evaluation were normal. Ultrasound and MRI were conducted and revealed complete absence of uterus, small vaginal canal. Bilateral renal fossa were empty and both the k

Renal cell carcinoma in bilateral fused pelvic kidneys: hybrid radical and nephron-sparing surgical management.

Renal malignancy in ectopic fused pelvic kidneys is exceptionally rare, with only a small number of cases described globally. We report a man in his early 50s with bilateral fused pelvic kidneys containing a large renal cell carcinoma extending across both renal moieties. Preoperative CT angiography demonstrated complex aberrant vasculature originating from the aortic bifurcation. Following selective arterial embolisation of the tumour-feeding vessels, the patient underwent radical nephrectomy of the left renal moiety and nephron-sparing partial nephrectomy of the right kidney.Despite the exte

Fused right S-shaped kidney incidentally detected on multidetector CT during staging of periampullary adenocarcinoma: A case report.

Supernumerary kidney is an uncommon congenital renal anomaly with complex vascular and collecting-system anatomy, making accurate preoperative imaging essential for diagnosis and surgical planning. We report the case of a 58-year-old man who underwent contrast-enhanced CT for staging of periampullary adenocarcinoma, which incidentally revealed an ipsilateral fused supernumerary kidney with an S-shaped configuration. Imaging demonstrated two fused right renal moieties with separate arterial supplies, distinct pelvicalyceal systems, distal ureteric fusion, and a common right renal vein. An assoc
