The purpose of this report was to describe the radiographic findings of 6 uncommon situations of supernumerary teeth in a Brazilian pediatric dentistry and orthodontic clinic. Six cases of supernumerary teeth were diagnosed in association with other dental anomalies such as number, position, and form. The supernumeraries were asymptomatic and were detected through routine radiographic examination. The importance of routine radiographic examination is emphasized for the correct diagnosis of supernumerary teeth, and avoidance of associated complications.

Macrodontia is a dental anomaly pertaining to the increased size of a tooth or multiple teeth. Double teeth are dental abnormalities concerning tooth morphology and the term traditionally refers to geminated or fused teeth. These anomalies may manifest in both primary and permanent dentitions and usually become apparent in childhood. They may cause a variety of clinical sequelae, including orthodontic complications, such as crowding, ectopic eruption of adjacent teeth and periodontal concerns. Double teeth are also at a higher risk of developing caries. The aesthetic implications of these dent

Morphological variation of normal oral structures such as double frenum and fusion together in a patient is rare. Sometimes such scenarios may mislead the diagnosis, affecting treatment planning and prognosis. Hence a thorough evaluation of patients with such morphological defects is necessary. This case report describes a case of double frenum and fusion, and the multiple challenges the clinician faces.

Double and congenitally missing teeth are known to be commoner in the primary dentition than the permanent. The knowledge of this trait in the permanent dentition in Africa is still poor. This paper describes the clinical findings in a pair of monozygotic Nigerian twins. This illustrates the claims of genetic basis of such conditions, which have been reported severally in developed parts of the globe but not much among the indigenous Nigerian Negroid population especially involving the permanent dentition.

Six cases of asymptomatic dental twinning anomalies in the primary dentition are reported in 4205 school children. A clinical and radiographic presentation of the cases of fusion of primary incisor teeth is illustrated. This clinical entity has been found to appear with varied clinical and radiographic appearances. An association of fusion of primary incisors with the number of succedaneous teeth was seen.

Developmental abnormalities like fusion and gemination affecting the posterior dentition, pose serious diagnostic, and treatment difficulties. This case report demonstrates successful endodontic management of a rare fused molar-paramolar complex with pulp necrosis and apical periodontitis. The report highlights diagnostic challenges, the role of advanced imaging, anatomical complexities, and successful outcomes using modern endodontic techniques for fused posterior teeth.

Hypodontia is the most prevalent craniofacial malformation in mankind. It may present a wide variety of manifestations and, depending on the number and location of missing teeth, it may affect the esthetics, mastication, speech and occlusal balance. This paper discusses the therapeutic approaches to solve this condition, describing a case report with hypodontia of one mandibular lateral incisor, which treatment option included space closure at the region of hypodontia associated with composite resin restorations in the mandibular central incisors. The three-year follow-up after treatment revea

Double tooth and talon cusp are tooth shape anomalies with rare co-occurrences in a single tooth. Double tooth is a developmental anomaly that leads to the eruption of fused teeth and may contribute to compromised esthetics, pain, caries, and tooth crowding. Talon cusp is a rare developmental extra cusp-like projection on the cingulum area that may cause functional and esthetic problems. Differential diagnosis of these anomalies may be complicated. A multidisciplinary approach for the esthetic and functional rehabilitation of double teeth is important. Various treatment methods have been descr

This paper describes and discusses the multidisciplinary treatment involving a permanent maxillary lateral incisor fused to a supernumerary tooth, both presenting pulp necrosis and periapical lesion. A 15-year-old male patient sought treatment complaining of pain, swelling and mobility on the maxillary right lateral incisor. After clinical and radiographic examination, root canal preparation was performed according to the crown-down technique and a calcium hydroxide dressing was placed for 15 days. The patient returned and the definitive endodontic filling was done with thermomechanical compac

BACKGROUND: Fusion is the embryologic union of normally discrete structures. The treatment of this anomaly usually requires a multidisciplinary approach. Cone-beam computerized tomography (CBCT) is more common in dentistry and provides valuable information on fused teeth, allowing us to confirm its 3-dimensional structure and precise 3-dimensional cutting-plane line, which is very important to prevent pulp exposure in the conserved tooth.
STUDY DESIGN: An 8-year-old boy presented with a permanent maxillary left lateral incisor fused with a supernumerary tooth. Hemisection was delayed until th

Gemination and fusion are anomalies in size, shape and structure of teeth. Gemination more frequently affects the primary teeth, but it may occur in permanent dentitions, usually in the incisor region. Geminated teeth are typically disfigured in appearance due to irregularities of the enamel. Fused teeth can have separated pulpal space, one pulp chamber and two canals or take the form of a large bifid crown with one pulpal space. It is hard to differentiate between fusion and gemination, especially if the supernumerary tooth bud is fused with the adjacent one. Usually, fusion may be differenti

A 27-year-old patient with an anomalous mandibular molar was referred for endodontic therapy. Clinical and radiographic examination revealed the connation of a second mandibular molar with a third molar. Challenging endodontic therapy was performed in the unusual connated molars. A 2-year recall showed good treatment result.

Developmental anomalies in permanent molars frequently require surgical intervention. A case of a mandibular third molar fused with a fourth molar which was successfully treated with conservative endodontic therapy is reported.

The occurrence of a fusion of three primary incisors is rare. A two-year-old Japanese girl was brought to the pediatric dental outpatient clinic, Tokyo Dental College, to receive a caries-prevention treatment. The fused tooth consisted of the maxillary primary central incisors and right maxillary lateral incisor. Primary left lateral incisor erupted normally and the other primary teeth were erupted. The radicular pulp chambers were fused into one for three fourths of the length from the apex, and only one root. The hair and skin of the patient appeared normal and no systemic abnormality or con

BACKGROUND: Disruption in odontogenesis can influence the normal development of both deciduous and permanent dentition resulting in anomalies in morphology, number, and position of teeth. Although dental anomalies are frequently reported in clinical practice, their occurrence in past populations from archeological contexts is rarely acknowledged.
AIM: To describe two cases of dental anomalies on two non-adult individuals from Italian archeological sites.
DESIGN: Individual sex diagnosis was performed by analyzing amelogenin peptides from the dental enamel through liquid chromatography mass s

Supernumerary teeth in the molar area are classified as paramolars or distomolars based on location. They occur frequently in the maxilla, but only rarely in the mandible. These teeth are frequently fused with adjacent teeth. When this occurs, the pulp cavities may also be connected. This makes diagnosis and planning of endodontic treatment extremely difficult. Here we report a case of a mandibular second molar fused with a paramolar, necessitating dental pulp treatment. Intraoral and panoramic radiographs were obtained for an evaluation and diagnosis. Although the images revealed a supernumer

Oral-facial-digital syndrome is a group of congenital anomalies, which affects the face, oral structures and digits. There are nine subtypes. OFDS type I, is x-linked dominant trait mostly affecting females. Reports of OFDS type 1 in Asians are extremely rare. This paper shows a case of OFDS type 1, in a southern Chinese girl, who in addition to most of the classic features, had fusion of the mandibular canine and lateral incisor teeth.
