Correction to: miR-9 inhibits the metastatic ability of hepatocellular carcinoma via targeting beta galactoside alpha-2,6-sialyltransferase 1.

This erratum addresses corrections to the article titled 'miR-9 inhibits the metastatic ability of hepatocellular carcinoma via targeting beta galactoside alpha-2,6-sialyltransferase 1' published in Journal of physiology and biochemistry on 13 July 2018. In the original article, the transwell microscope images presented in Fig. 4C of the Hca-P mimic group and Fig. 5E of Hca-P PF group were accidentally misused during the assembly of the figures. These errors have now been corrected and does not change the conclusions of the study. The authors apologize for this oversight and any confusion it m

Quercetin 3-O-Galactoside Isolated from Limonium tetragonum Inhibits Melanogenesis by Regulating PKA/MITF Signaling and ERK Activation.

Quercetin 3-O-galactoside (Q3G) is a common dietary flavanol that has been shown to possess several bioactivities, including anti-melanogenesis. However, how Q3G exerts its anti-melanogenic effect has not been studied. The current study, therefore aimed to investigate the anti-melanogenesis potential of Q3G and elucidate the underlying action mechanism in α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH)-induced hyperpigmentation model of B16F10 murine melanoma cells. Results showed that α-MSH stimulation significantly increased tyrosinase (TYR) and melanin production, which were significantly downregu

Anti-inflammatory IgG production requires functional P1 promoter in β-galactoside α2,6-sialyltransferase 1 (ST6Gal-1) gene.

The anti-inflammatory properties associated with intravenous immunoglobulin therapy require the sialic acid modification of the N-glycan of the Fc domain of IgG. Sialylation of the Fc fragment is mediated by β-galactoside α2,6-sialyltransferase 1 (ST6Gal-1), acting on the Gal(β4)GlcNAc terminal structure of the biantennary N-glycans on the Fc domain. However, little is known regarding the in vivo regulation of Fc sialylation and its role in the progression of inflammatory processes. Here, we report that decreased Fc sialylation of circulatory IgG accompanies the acute phase response elicited b

Myricetin-3-O-galactoside in cranberries alleviates urinary tract infections in mice by inhibiting the adhesion of uropathogenic Escherichia coli CFT073.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most prevalent urological diseases worldwide, characterized by high morbidity and recurrence rates. Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) is the predominant etiological agent of UTIs. It adheres to epithelial cells in the urethra or bladder via adhesins, followed by local colonization, proliferation, and induction of uroepithelial tissue damage and inflammation. However, the widespread use of antibiotics has led to increasing resistance in UPEC, posing significant challenges to the treatment of UTIs. In the present study, we successfully isolated a

Phosphate deficiency induced by infection promotes synthesis of anthracnose-resistant anthocyanin-3-O-galactoside phytoalexins in the Camellia sinensis plant.

Tea (Camellia sinensis) is a well-known beverage crop rich in polyphenols with health benefits for humans. Understanding how tea polyphenols participate in plant resistance is beneficial to breeding resistant varieties and uncovering the resistance mechanisms. Here, we report that a Colletotrichum infection-induced 'pink ring' symptom appeared outside the lesion, which is highly likely to occur in resistant cultivars. By identifying morphological feature-specific metabolites in the pink ring and their association with disease resistance, and analysis of the association between metabolite and g

Development of sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay systems for plasma beta-galactoside alpha2,6-sialyltransferase, a possible hepatic disease biomarker.

Previous reports, including our work, have shown that plasma beta-galactoside alpha2,6-sialyltransferase (ST6Gal I) activity is significantly increased in particular hepatopathological situations, suggesting that it may represent a sensitive biomarker for diagnosing hepatic diseases. So far, activity of ST6Gal I have been measured by using radioactive tracer method in place of measuring amount of ST6Gal I. However, this method is tangled and cannot exclude other sialyltransferase activities. Thus, simple and specific methods for measuring plasma ST6Gal I had been unavailable. Here, we develope

Expression of the CDw75 (beta-galactoside alpha 2,6-sialyltransferase) antigen on normal blood cells and in B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.

Using monoclonal antibodies (mAb) characterized at the last International Workshop on Human Leucocyte Antigens, we examined the expression of CDw75 antigens (beta-galactoside alpha 2,6-sialyltransferase) on normal peripheral blood cells and on cells from patients with B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL). The mAb used (HH2, EBU.65, EBU.141 and OKB4) detect different epitopes of CDw75. Normal peripheral blood B cells expressed high levels of CDw75 detectable with HH2, EBU.65 and EBU.141 but did not react with OKB4. Cells from patients with B-cell CLL closely resembled normal B cells. All

The two human lactosylceramidases and their respective enzyme activity deficiency diseases: inhibition studies using p-nitrophenyl-beta-D-galactoside.

Total lactosyl ceramide beta-galactosidase (LC) activity from normal and pathologic human leukocytes and tissues was subdivided into LC I (EC 3.2.1.46) and LC II (EC 3.2.1.23) activity by means of specific inhibition of LC II with 5 mM p-nitrophenyl-beta-D-galactoside (Ki = 1.5 mM). In globoid-cell leudodystrophy, inhibition of total LC was nearly complete (only LC II is active), whereas in GM1-gangliosidosis Type 1, very little inhibition was found (only LC I is actict). Total LC activity was not significantly low in either of the diseases, which have different genetic origins. The ratio of L

Anti-galectin-1 autoantibodies in human Trypanosoma cruzi infection: differential expression of this beta-galactoside-binding protein in cardiac Chagas' disease.

The pathogenesis of Chagas' disease has been subject of active research and still remains to be ascertained. Galectin-1 (Gal-1), a member of a conserved family of animal beta-galactoside-binding proteins, localized in human heart tissue, has been suggested to play key roles in immunological and inflammatory processes. In the present study we demonstrated the occurrence of anti-Gal-1 autoAb in sera from patients in the acute and chronic stages of Chagas' disease (ACD and CCD) by means of ELISA and Western blot analysis. We found a marked increase in the level and frequency of Ig E anti-Gal-1 an

Immunohistochemical localization of a beta-galactoside-binding lectin in rat central nervous system. II. Light- and electron-microscopical studies in developing cerebellum.

An endogenous brain lectin exhibiting beta-galactoside specificity (RBL-16) was localized during postnatal cerebellum development both at the light- and electron-microscopical level. The lectin was widely distributed in neurons, astroglial and perivascular cells. Its levels were nearly constant during development in the two latter cell types. The lectin was developmentally regulated with a transient accumulation in Purkinje dendritic spines between the 10th- and 13th day, then it decreased until adult age. From electron-microscopical observations, it could be concluded that, in Purkinje cells,

Cytokine-induced beta-galactoside alpha-2,6-sialyltransferase in human endothelial cells mediates alpha 2,6-sialylation of adhesion molecules and CD22 ligands.

Sialic acids decorating blood and cell surface proteins can play important roles in various biological processes. The inflammatory cytokines tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin-1, as well as bacterial lipopolysaccharide, can activate vascular endothelium, increasing expression of several surface glycoproteins. Here we show that treatment of cultured human endothelial cells (HEC) with TNF-alpha, interleukin-1, or lipopolysaccharide causes increased expression of the enzyme beta-galactoside alpha-2,6-sialytransferase (alpha 2-6STN). TNF-alpha was most effective, inducing a 3.

CHEMO-IMMUNOLOGICAL STUDIES ON CONJUGATED CARBOHYDRATE-PROTEINS : I. THE SYNTHESIS OFp-AMINOPHENOL beta-GLUCOSIDE, p-AMINOPHENOL beta-GALACTOSIDE, AND THEIR COUPLING WITH SERUM GLOBULIN.

It has been demonstrated that many multiples of minimal doses of Bacillus typhosus reacting factors can be neutralized by specific immune sera. The potency of a given serum can be conveniently titrated against increasing amounts of reacting factors. If the immune serum is diluted or if the amount of the reacting factors is too large for a given amount of serum, there is obtained neutralization but only irregularly. Normal and heterologous sera (therapeutic meningococcus and erysipelas horse sera) free of normal agglutinins or possessing normal agglutinins of a low titer (1:16) for Bacillus typ

The immunomodulatory beta-galactoside-specific lectin from mistletoe: partial sequence analysis, cell and tissue binding, and impact on intracellular biosignalling of monocytic leukemia cells.

Nanogram quantities of the beta-galactoside-specific lectin from mistletoe (ML-I) that is composed of two different types of subunits exhibit immunomodulatory potency and enhance cytokine secretion in vitro and in vivo. Partial sequence analysis of the carbohydrate-binding B chain revealed a ragged N-terminus and overall homologies to the B subunit of Ricin D and Ricin E. Two evolutionarily neutral substitutions were apparent in the otherwise identical N-terminal sequences of the two toxic chains within the lectin preparation. On the basis of the influence of chemical modification by group-spe

d-Pinitol Rescues Osteoblast Differentiation From Tumor Necrosis Factor-Alpha-Mediated Suppression via β-Galactoside α-2,6-Sialyltransferase 1 Induction.

d-pinitol, a naturally occurring inositol derivative found in legumes and soy-based foods, has shown various biological effects, including anti-inflammatory and insulin-sensitizing activities. However, its role in osteoblast differentiation under inflammatory conditions remains unclear. In this study, we investigated whether d-pinitol alleviates tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α)-induced suppression of osteogenic gene expression in MC3T3-E1 pre-osteoblasts. Using RT-PCR, real-time PCR, and Western blot analyses, we found that d-pinitol significantly restored the expression of osteogenic marke

Immunohistochemical localization of a beta-galactoside-binding lectin in rat central nervous system. I. Light- and electron-microscopical studies on developing cerebral cortex and corpus callosum.

From a lectin isolated from human brain (HBL-14), that specifically binds beta-galactosides, a polyclonal antiserum was raised that also recognizes a similar rat brain lectin (RBL-16). These antibodies allowed the immunocytochemical localization of the lectin during rat brain development by optical and electron microscopy. The presence of RBL-16, first detected at embryonic day 15, was specially increased from postnatal day 1 to 10. Its level decreased thereafter but it could still be detected in adult rat brain. The lectin, predominantly neuronal until postnatal day 13, was also present in as

Human colon cancer cell lines permanently expressing alpha 2,6-sialylated sugar chains by transfection with rat beta-galactoside alpha 2,6 sialyltransferase cDNA.

A role of alpha 2,6-linked sialic acid in the development of an invasive phenotype in colon cancer has been suggested by several observations but never conclusively demonstrated. An experimental model to clarify this tissue was established by the creation and characterization of a bank of cell lines that differ mainly, if not exclusively, in the degree of alpha 2,6-sialylation. Human colon cancer cell lines SW48 and SW948, normally unable to elaborate the alpha 2,6-sialyl linkage, were transfected with the beta-galactoside alpha 2,6-sialyltransferase (alpha 2,6ST) cDNA driven by the cytomegalo

Dietary flavonoid myricetin 3-O-galactoside suppresses α-melanocyte stimulating hormone-induced melanogenesis in B16F10 melanoma cells by regulating PKA and ERK1/2 activation.

Melanogenesis is the process where skin pigment melanin is produced through tyrosinase activity. Overproduction of melanin causes skin disorders such as freckles, spots, and hyperpigmentation. Myricetin 3-O-galactoside (M3G) is a dietary flavonoid with reported bioactivities. M3G was isolated from Limonium tetragonum and its anti-melanogenic properties were investigated in α-melanocyte stimulating hormone-stimulated B16F10 melanoma cells. The in vitro anti-melanogenic capacity of M3G was confirmed by inhibited tyrosinase and melanin production. M3G-mediated suppression of melanogenic proteins,
