OBJECTIVE: To find an easy tool to detect dyshormonogenesis.
METHODS: In this study, the standard perchlorate discharge test was modified by using a gamma-camera instead of a gamma-probe to detect this rare abnormality.
RESULTS: By using this technique two cases of dyshormonogenesis were identified.
CONCLUSION: The gamma-camera-based perchlorate discharge test is an easy, reliable, convenient, and feasible procedure where thyroid uptake probe is not available.

Primary hyperparathyroidism diagnosis and radioguided surgery by (99m)Tc-MIBI scintigraphy have become more generalized during recent years. The recent creation of a new portable hand-held miniature gamma camera opens new perspectives for this technique. We present a preliminary study of three patients with primary hyperparathyroidism in whom intraoperative scintigraphy with portable hand-held miniature gamma camera has been shown to be useful.

PURPOSE: Sestamibi scans have increased the use of minimally invasive parathyroidectomy (MIP) to treat primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) when caused by a parathyroid single adenoma. The greatest concern for surgeons remains the proper identification of pathological glands in a limited surgical field. We have studied the usefulness of a new hand-held miniature gamma camera (MGC) when used intraoperatively to locate parathyroid adenomas. Uteroplacental blood flow was measured with a computer-linked gamma camera after intravenous injection of 1 mCi indium-113m. Results of the measurements from 32 pre-eclamptic pregnancies and 37 normal controls are compared. Twenty consecutive patients with renovascular hypertension, proven by cure or improvement of hypertension at 1-year follow-up after percutaneous transluminal angioplasty or surgical repair, were studied before intervention by means of gamma camera renography with 99Tcm-diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (99Tcm-DTPA) at baseline and after angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibition. Sixteen patients underwent bilateral renal vein catheterization for measurement of renal vein renin release and extraction ratios of para-amino-hippurate (PAH) and 51Cr-EDTA before and after acute ACE inhibition.

In this study, we performed on-beam monitoring of 511 keV annihilation gamma emissions using a Compton camera. Beam monitoring experiments were conducted using carbon ion beams of 290 MeV/u irradiated on a polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) phantom. The intensity of the beams was 3 × 109 particles per pulse, with 20 pulses per minute. PURPOSE: The solid-state gamma camera is now commercially available offering the advantages of a compact and portable system, currently used mainly in the cardiac region. We evaluate the ability of the solid-state gamma camera to depict axillary sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) in breast cancer patients.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Preoperative SLN lymphoscintigraphy (LSG) was performed in 19 patients with breast cancer using the solid-state gamma camera. Immediately thereafter, we performed a second LSG using a single detector Anger-type gamma camera, and compared the findings from the two cameras.

BACKGROUND: We investigated a novel technique, intraoperative (99 m)Tc-Sestamibi (MIBI) imaging (neck and excised specimen (ES)), using a large field-of-view portable gamma camera (LFOVGC), for expediting confirmation of MIBI-avid parathyroid adenoma removal.
METHODS: Twenty patients with MIBI-avid parathyroid adenomas were preoperatively administered MIBI and intraoperatively imaged prior to incision (neck) and immediately following resection (neck and/or ES). Preoperative and intraoperative serum parathyroid hormone monitoring (IOPTH) and pathology (path) were also performed.
