Gastrointestinal bleeding in a pregnant woman: mucinous cystic neoplasm of pancreas mimicking gastrointestinal stromal tumor of stomach.

A 38-year-old woman presented in early pregnancy with anemia due to an ulcerated gastric tumor which had the typical clinical presentation and endoscopic appearance of a gastric leiomyoma or gastrointestinal stromal tumor. At surgery this was subsequently found to be a mucinous cystic tumor of pancreas. Review of the literature shows that both gastrointestinal hemorrhage and infiltration of stomach are infrequent complications of this tumor.

Clinical outcomes and toxicities of proton radiotherapy for gastrointestinal neoplasms: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Proton beam radiotherapy (PBT) is frequently shown to be dosimetrically superior to photon radiotherapy (RT), though supporting data for clinical benefit are severely limited. Because of the potential for toxicity reduction in gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies, we systematically reviewed the literature on clinical outcomes (survival/toxicity) of PBT. METHODS: A systematic search of PubMed, EMBASE, abstracts from meetings of the American Society for Radiation Oncology, Particle Therapy Co-Operative Group, and American Society of Clinical Oncology was conducted for publications fro

Plasmacytic neoplasm of the gastrointestinal tract in a patient with long-standing monoclonal gammopathy.

We have reported the 21-year follow-up of a patient with progressive monoclonal IgG lambda gammopathy and recurrent pneumococcal infections who had diarrhea and weight loss. The serum IgG had risen from 2,850 mg/dl in 1966 to 6,120 mg/dl in 1986, but repeated evaluations had shown no evidence of myeloma or lymphoma. Evaluation revealed infiltration of the gastrointestinal tract by a plasmacytic malignancy with a surface heavy and light chain identical to her serum monoclonal band.

Prognostic Role of Inflammatory Biomarkers in Gastrointestinal Neuroendocrine Neoplasms: A Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Gastrointestinal neuroendocrine neoplasms (g-NENs) represent a heterogeneous group of tumors with variable prognoses. Inflammation-based markers, such as the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), have emerged as potential prognostic indicators in various malignancies. This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic significance of NLR and PLR in g-NENs and their associations with histopathological features and survival outcomes. METHODS: A retrospective, cross-sectional study was conducted on 80 patients with histologically confirmed g-N

Endoscopic and Surgical Treatment of Gastrointestinal Neuroendocrine Neoplasms: A Population-based Comparative Study.

BACKGROUND: Controversy surrounds the indications for endoscopic treatment (ET) versus surgery in addressing gastrointestinal neuroendocrine neoplasms (GI-NENs). This paper aims to compare the long-term survival prognosis between ET and surgery for patients with GI-NENs. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of GI-NEN patients diagnosed between 2000 and 2020 was conducted using the SEER database. Overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Prognostic factors were assessed through univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses. Spontaneous rupture and upper gastrointestinal bleeding of solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas.

The solid pseudopapillary neoplasm (SPN) of the pancreas is an uncommon, low-grade malignant tumour, mostly seen in young women. We report a rare case of a 44-year-old female who presented with spontaneous rupture and upper gastrointestinal bleeding. The emergency endoscopy revealed a 2 cm bleeding ulcer on the duodenal bulb. A computer tomography scan (CT scan) showed a 6.7 cm mass, with solid and cystic components arising in the head of the pancreas. After achieving haemostasis, she was discharged. Two months later, a new CT scan showed a persistent 6 cm mass in the head of the pancreas, now

"Not-So-Indolent" neuroendocrine neoplasms: two case reports of gastrointestinal small cell neuroendocrine carcinomas.

BACKGROUND: Small cell neuroendocrine carcinomas (SCNECs) of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract are exceedingly rare and aggressive malignancies. Unlike pulmonary SCNECs, which are well-characterized, extrapulmonary GI-SCNECs lack established diagnostic pathways and treatment algorithms due to their rarity and histopathological overlap with other poorly differentiated tumors. Literature on their clinical course remains limited to isolated reports, with scarce data on site-specific presentations. These two cases contribute to the existing literature by illustrating distinct primary GI sites (gastr

Clinicopathological relevance of the association between gastrointestinal and sebaceous neoplasms: the Muir-Torre syndrome.

The association between sebaceous neoplasms of the skin and visceral cancers, known as Muir-Torre syndrome, is described in three patients, including one with an extensive history of cancer in his family. The first patient, a 54-year-old man, developed multiple sebaceous adenomas, epitheliomas, and carcinomas in association with a colonic carcinoma 6 years after cardiac transplantation. Family history in this patient disclosed colon cancer in 17 relatives. The second patient was a 51-year-old man who had recurrent adenocarcinoma of the sigmoid colon, adenocarcinoma arising in Barrett's esophag

Personalizing Postoperative Surveillance: A Risk-Stratified Predictive Model for Recurrence of Gastrointestinal Neuroendocrine Neoplasms.

BACKGROUND: Current Ki-67-based prognostic tools have limitations in stratifying recurrence risk for gastrointestinal neuroendocrine neoplasms (GI-NENs) after primary tumor resection (PTR), necessitating personalized predictive models to optimize surveillance. METHODS: Data from 316 GI-NEN patients undergoing PTR were analyzed. Variables selected via LASSO regression were incorporated into Cox and Random Survival Forest (RSF) models. A nomogram was constructed based on superior model, and cut-off scores stratified patients into three recurrence risk groups. RESULTS: The RSF model showed supe

An innovative diagnosis in gastrointestinal neuroendocrine neoplasms using Wax-Physisorption-Kinetics-based FTIR Imaging.

Neuroendocrine neoplasm (NEN) is a common gastrointestinal (GI) tract tumor divided into the neuroendocrine tumor (NET) and neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) according to mitosis and Ki-67 index. However, the objective discordance between interobserver may cause unsuitable diagnosis and misleading treatment. Nowadays, aberrant glycosylation of glycoconjugates inducing further populations of elongated complex oligosaccharide covalent attached to glycoconjugates anchored in the cell membrane by neo-synthesis of cancer-associated alteration of carbohydrate determinants were observed during cancer de

GLI1 -Rearranged Enteric Tumor : Expanding the Spectrum of Gastrointestinal Neoplasms With GLI1 Gene Fusions.

GLI1 encodes a transcription factor that targets cell cycle regulators affecting stem cell proliferation. GLI1 gene fusions were initially described in pericytomas with a t[7;12] translocation and more recently in gastric plexiform fibromyxomas and gastroblastomas. This study describes the clinicopathologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular features of three intestinal-based neoplasms harboring GLI1 gene fusions. We studied three unique mesenchymal small bowel tumors. Paraffin embedded tumor tissues from these cases and 62 additional tumor samples that included a plexiform fibromyxoma were s

Gastrointestinal malignant neoplasms disguised as pneumatosis cystoids intestinalis: A case report and literature review.

RATIONALE: Pneumatosis cystoids intestinalis (PCI) is a rare disease in which gas develops in the mucosa or submucosa of the digestive tract. The etiology and pathogenesis of this disease, at present, remain unclear, and gastrointestinal malignant neoplasms may be a potentially important cause. Herein, we report a case of mantle cell lymphoma presenting as PCI as well as present a literature review of cases of suspect PCI that was definitively diagnosed as gastrointestinal neoplasms. In doing so, we highlighted cases of neoplastic pathogenesis that present as PCI. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 55-year-

Coexistence of gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST) and malignant neoplasms of different origin: prognostic implications.

BACKGROUND: Over the past decade, several changes occurred in diagnostics, treatment and understanding of pathogenesis of gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST). However, their coexistence with other malignancies of different histogenetic origin remains a challenging issue. METHODS: Patients diagnosed with GIST in a 10-years period were identified retrospectively and clinical history and findings thoroughly explored for the presence of associated other malignancies. Follow up data were obtained and analysed for prognostic impact of the concurrent malignancy and/or GIST. RESULTS: Thirty seve

Gastrointestinal Neuroendocrine Neoplasms in Children and Adolescents: Data from the German MET Studies (1997-2024).

INTRODUCTION: Gastrointestinal neuroendocrine neoplasms (GI-NENs) outside the appendix and pancreas are exceptionally rare in children and adolescents. Limited data on presentation, treatment, and outcomes hinder clinical decision-making. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 16 patients under 18 years with histologically confirmed NENs of gastrointestinal origin, enrolled in the German Malignant Endocrine Tumor (MET) Registry from 1997 to 2024. Neuroendocrine carcinomas were eligible for inclusion but were not observed. Findings were compared with a cohort (age 0-20 years) from the SEER datab

Robotic-assisted endoscopic submucosal dissection for superficial gastrointestinal neoplasms: a bayesian meta-analysis & systematic review.

Superficial gastrointestinal (GI) neoplasms pose a significant global health burden, with endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) as the gold standard for curative resection. However, conventional ESD (C-ESD) is technically challenging, with prolonged procedure times and higher complication risks. Robotic-assisted ESD (R-ESD) offers enhanced precision and safety, but evidence is limited. To evaluate the efficacy and safety of R-ESD using a Bayesian single-arm Meta-analysis. Systematic review and Bayesian single-arm meta-analysis. Following PRISMA guidelines and PROSPERO registration (CRD4202512
