PURPOSE: The objective of this review was to identify perceptions of end-of-life (EOL) care needs among transgender and nonbinary (TNB) individuals.
METHODS: A systematic review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. We used PubMed and Web of Science databases to identify EOL care needs, experiences, and preferences related to TNB individuals, with publication dates spanning January 1, 1988, through February 20, 2024. Articles were required to be written or translated in English, focus on EOL care factors, and include TNB ind

BACKGROUND: Transgender and gender expansive (TGE) people experience high rates of interpersonal victimization, which has been linked to high rates of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD, a highly disabling and under-studied mental illness among TGE people). This systematic review identifies, classifies, critically appraises, and synthesizes the peer-reviewed literature describing the association between interpersonal victimization and post-traumatic stress among TGE people. This review collates what is known about the associations between victimization and PTSD among TGE people and makes rec

The United States has seen sharp increases in efforts to enact anti-transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) legislation at the state level, including limits on access to gender-affirming care, restrictions on access to public facilities, and constraints on public gender expression and presentation. Although existing research demonstrates that structural stigma generally leads to poorer mental health outcomes for TGD individuals and that protective laws (e.g., antibullying and nondiscrimination laws) reduce such poor outcomes, the impact of newer anti-TGD state legislation on TGD mental health is

Gender-affirming medical treatment for transgender and gender-diverse individuals effectively aligns secondary sex characteristics with gender identity improving psychological well-being, quality of life, and social functioning. This article focuses on gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) synthesizing current evidence and guideline recommendations for feminizing and masculinizing GAHT, including dosing strategies, monitoring protocols, fertility counseling, and management of common side effects. Future priorities include optimizing low-dosing protocols for nonbinary patients. GAHT, when pro

Queer, transgender and nonbinary (QTNB) people access midwifery services, yet little is known about their experiences of midwifery care. Our qualitative study used critical narrative inquiry to examine how QTNB midwifery service-users in Ontario, Canada, experience cisheteronormativity in healthcare. Drawing on in-depth interviews with 14 participants, our analysis examines the effects of biomedicalisation on QTNB people who navigate these systems. Our findings show that QTNB people access and participate in technologies of pregnancy surveillance, which deploy information-seeking practices tha

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) demonstrates important sex- and gender-related differences that affect risk, clinical presentation, and management. Women face unique risk factors, including pregnancy, postpartum, gynecologic malignancies, and estrogen-based therapies, while men have higher recurrence risk. Gender-affirming hormone therapy and anticoagulation-related heavy menstrual bleeding represent additional challenges, often overlooked in clinical trials. This article summarizes the most relevant sex- and gender-specific determinants of VTE, emphasizing the need for individualized and inclusi

Individuals pursuing gender-affirming care should receive comprehensive counseling regarding their reproductive options and be offered fertility preservation prior to medical or surgical transition. All fertility preservation and infertility treatment modalities available to cisgender individuals are also available to transgender individuals. Fertility preservation should prioritize methods with the highest potential for future live birth, particularly mature oocyte or sperm cryopreservation. Gender-affirming hormone therapy may reduce spontaneous fertility, though this effect is incomplete an

Transgender and gender diverse (TGD) people weather stigma and discrimination and experience significant barriers to preventive health care, contributing to disproportionate burdens of chronic diseases. Affirming approaches to preventive care improve trust, and every encounter presents an opportunity to support affirming clinical relationships with TGD patients. This article reviews best practices in preventive health in TGD populations including cancer screening, bone health, vaccinations, sexual health, cardiovascular risk, and behavioral health. Given limited data specific to trans patients

BACKGROUND: Parents influence children's access and engagement in mental health therapy, through factors like parent attitudes and session attendance. This is especially true for transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) youth, who benefit most from affirming therapy - compared to non-affirming therapy - which is tailored to support a client's gender and linked with enhanced treatment engagement. To support TGD youth's ability to engage in optimal treatment, it is important to understand parent's influence on youth's therapy experiences.
OBJECTIVE: Analyze qualitative data from TGD youth, parents,

Transgender and gender nonconforming adults are vulnerable to becoming homeless in their lifetime. While homeless, transgender individuals are likely to engage in survival sex, which is the act of trading sex for resources such as food, shelter, and money. Although research has yet to examine how homelessness and survival sex influence the likelihood of interacting with a police officer, research has shown that homeless individuals and those who engage in sex work for money have reported negative interactions with the police. The current study used data from the 2015 U.S. Transgender Survey to

Contemporary research has shown that a significant portion of gay men have traits, interests, occupations, and behaviors that are consistent with the stereotype of gay men as effeminate, androgynous, or unmasculine. A great number of gay men exhibit gender nonconformity during childhood; most, however, "defeminize" during adolescence, possibly in response to stigmatization and society's gender-role prescription. Only a relatively small percentage of gay men continue to be gender-nonconforming in their adulthood, often at a price, as they also tend to have lower psychological well-being. Althou

IMPORTANCE: State legislative bans on gender-affirming care (GAC) for youths, along with federal executive orders focused on gender identity, have affected clinicians' approaches to research and care provision. While research has started to examine the number and types of studies assessing transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) populations that have been terminated, the impact of other sociopolitical factors remains underexplored.
OBJECTIVE: To understand how the current sociopolitical climate has changed the approach to research of clinicians caring for TGD youths.

BACKGROUND: Transgender and gender diverse (TGD) individuals presumed male at birth often pursue voice and communication training (VCT) to develop a more feminine-sounding voice, as hormone therapy does not affect the voice. Previous research supports the integration of intonation training into gender-affirming VCT for TGD individuals seeking a more feminine-sounding voice. However, TGD individuals' experiences with intonation training for a more feminine-sounding voice remain unexplored.
AIM: The aim of the present study was to explore the experiences of TGD individuals who underwent intonat

AIM: We aimed to synthesise current evidence on the association between gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) and cancer risk in transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) individuals and to provide evidence-based cancer screening recommendations for Australasian general practitioners.
METHODS: A systematic review of epidemiological studies, case reports and clinical guidelines was conducted in accordance with PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Searches were performed across PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus and the Cochrane Library for literature published up to December 2025. Key evidence sources were narrat

Globally there is a growing visibility of trans, gender diverse, and non-binary people in contact with prison systems, and growing questions raised by stakeholders about the health and wellbeing of these populations under state care. This scoping review aims to map the global evidence on the key health and wellbeing issues of incarcerated trans, gender diverse, and non-binary adults and young people to enhance researchers, community and policy makers' capacity to use international evidence to develop locally relevant policies and care models. The review follows Arksey and O'Malley's (2005) fiv

BACKGROUND: Transgender and gender diverse (TGD) children and adolescents in the United States are currently experiencing an oppressive sociopolitical climate that is likely impacting their mental wellbeing. TGD children, defined as 5- to 10-year-olds, have the capacity to be aware of the anti-trans sociopolitical climate and, within the context of developmental readiness, TGD children and their caregivers may benefit from having conversations about the sociopolitical climate with a mental health provider. However, there are no clinical guidelines for how mental health providers may approach c

Trans and nonbinary adults assigned female at birth (TNBF) are at elevated cardiovascular risk, an effect proposed to occur secondary to testosterone use. However, gender minority (GM) stress may also contribute to cardiovascular risk. Therefore, we examined the relative association of GM stress and testosterone with blood pressure (BP) and its regulation in TNBF adults. In 24 TNBF adults (12 not using and 12 using testosterone), GM stress was derived from a standardized composite score of seven psychosocial scales, and total testosterone was measured via radioimmunoassay. BP was assessed at r

Transgender and gender diverse (trans) people experience unique minority stressors related to their gender identity, along with additional psychosocial and systemic stressors that contribute to health disparities. Many risk factors for chronic liver diseases, such as viral hepatitis, alcohol use disorder, and metabolic dysfunction, disproportionately affect trans people. There have also been historical concerns about the hepatic effects of gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) that are predominantly based on data extrapolated from cisgender populations or hormone formulations that are no lon

Much of what is known about the psychological and developmental experiences of LGBTQ+ youth of color comes from a deficit-based perspective, seeking to identify what they lack, rather than what assets they hold. The current study takes a strengths-based perspective and examines positive, developmentally relevant assets among LGBTQ+ youth of color and how these assets interact to shape well-being. More specifically, the study assesses the relationship between LGBTQ+ microaffirmations and well-being and the potential moderating role of LGBTQ+ identity in that relationship. In the study, 156 LGBT
