BACKGROUND: Cancer is a major health problem and cause of mortality worldwide. Despite the prevalence of other cancers in males and females, genital cancers are especially important because of their psychological effects on individuals. Currently, cervical cancer, corpus uteri neoplasm, and ovarian cancer are the most common gynecological cancers in Iran. Prostate cancer has increased in Iranian men in the last decade. CONTEXT: The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a ubiquitous microorganism strongly associated with lymphoproliferative disorders and a large number of human neoplasms, mainly undifferentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma and Burkitt lymphoma. The viral DNA has been detected in other tumors, such as carcinomas from tonsil, salivary glands, and thymus, and malignancies of the female genital tract. Shadow cells are characteristic of pilomatricoma, although they have been described in other cutaneous and visceral neoplasms, particularly endometrioid adenocarcinomas of the female genital tract. We describe a metastasis of an ovarian endometrioid adenocarcinoma with shadow cells to the skin that was initially misinterpreted as a pilomatricoma. We compare the histology of the ovarian neoplasm to 21 pilomatricomas. This is the first reported case of a cutaneous metastasis of a visceral neoplasm mimicking a primary pilomatrical neoplasm.

Fallopian tubes are one of the uncommon sites for neoplastic lesions in the female genital tract. Haemangiomas of the fallopian tubes are rare benign neoplasms that are documented as isolated case reports only. We present a rare case of incidentally detected cavernous haemangioma of the fallopian tube in a post menopausal female who underwent hysterectomy and bilateral salphingoopherectomy for dysfunctional uterine bleeding.

The term pityriasis rotunda refers to strikingly circular scaly lesions, with the histologic appearance of ichthyosis vulgaris. Pityriasis rotunda has been described in the Japanese, South African blacks, and West Indian blacks. The condition occurs only in association with certain serious systemic illnesses, usually tuberculosis, or malignant neoplasms or less severe diseases of the female genital tract (eg, fibroids, ovarian cyst). We describe two South African blacks with pityriasis rotunda and neoplasms. The cutaneous lesions cleared when the primary neoplasm was treated.

The frequency of spontaneously occuring neoplasms in the urogenital system and endocrine organs was examined in two Syrian hamster colonies [Eppley colony (EC); Hannover colony (HC)].
