Gentiana is an important genus of around 360 medicinally important species, majority of which are not well characterized. Despite its importance, very few genomic resources are available for Gentiana L. Till date, the number of informative and robust simple sequence repeat (SSR)-based markers is limited and very few efforts have been made for their development. A set of robust, freely accessible and informative SSR markers for Gentiana is a pre-requisite for any molecular systematic as well as improvement studies in this group of pharmacologically valuable plants. In view of the importance of

Liver fibrosis is a wound-healing process. It can be induced by various chronic liver diseases. Liver fibrosis is characterized by the activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs), a key event. However, no effective treatment strategies to cure or alleviate liver fibrosis-induced pathologic changes have yet been developed. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) exhibits a good anti-fibrosis action, with few side effects. Gentiana decoction, a TCM also called Longdan Xiegan Tang (LXT), is used for purging the liver in clinical settings. However, the role of LXT in preventing liver fibrosis and the u

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix (GMR), traditionally referred to as Qinjiao, consists of the desiccated roots derived from G. macrophylla Pall. Historically, this herb has been employed to alleviate edema, promote diuresis, quench thirst, and mitigate deficiency-related fever. Such clinical manifestations are commonly observed in patients suffering from diabetic kidney disease (DKD), a condition where renal fibrosis represents a critical pathological feature. Emerging evidence suggests that inhibiting aldose reductase (AR) could offer therapeutic benefits for DKD b

Bladder cancer (BC) has a high recurrence rate and marked molecular heterogeneity, yet effective biomarkers and druggable targets remain scarce. Honghua Longdan (Gentiana rhodantha Franch., GR), a traditional Chinese medicine, exhibits antitumor activity, but its therapeutic targets and mechanisms in BC remain poorly defined. Here, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in BC from TCGA-BLCA and GEO were integrated with weighted gene coexpression network analysis (WGCNA) to identify BC-related gene modules. Active GR-derived compounds were obtained from HERB v 2.0 and SymMap. Three machine-learn

Coccidiosis is a major parasitic threat to global poultry production. Chemical anticoccidial overuse raises residue and food safety concerns, spurring interest in safe, residue-free alternatives like Chinese herbal medicines. Gentiana scabra extract (GSE) shows broad bioactivity, but its anticoccidial efficacy against Eimeria tenella and gut microecological effects remain unclear. We evaluated three GSE doses (1, 2, 4 g/kg feed) in a controlled floor-pen experiment using broilers infected with E. tenella. Anticoccidial activity was assessed via McMaster oocyst counting and clinical indices: oo
