Feline extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) is an uncommon plasma cell neoplasm typically regarded as biologically benign; however, its clinical behaviour may be heterogeneous. This case report describes an aggressive gingival EMP in a 14-year-old neutered male Turkish Angora cat, characterised by alveolar bone lysis and cytologically confirmed regional lymph node metastasis in the absence of systemic features consistent with multiple myeloma. Histopathological examination revealed an infiltrative round cell neoplasm with high mitotic index, and strong diffuse MUM-1 immunoreactivity confirmed the

Gingiva is one of the common sites for many reactive, benign and malignant lesions. Localized gingival overgrowths usually present with a wide variety of clinical and histopathological features, and it will create a challenge for proper diagnosis. We report a case of a 48-year-old male patient with a slow-growing swelling on the lower anterior gingiva, extending to the floor of the mouth. A differential diagnosis of pyogenic granuloma or salivary gland neoplasm was considered. The lesion was diagnosed as clear cell variant of calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumour after the histopathological

Extramedullary plasmactyoma is the solitary, soft tissue form of plasma cell neoplasm but lack the defining features of medullary or multiple myeloma. The diagnosis is difficult to make in routine practice setting due to the morphological and immunohistochemical overlap with plasmablastic lymphoma. We report a case of plasmablastic extramedullary plasmacytoma in a 52-year-old in the mandibular lingual gingiva and discuss its differential from plasmablastic lymphoma. The gingival mass regressed with primary radiotherapy.

Epitheloid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is an uncommon angiocentric neoplasm of intermediate malignant potential. This tumor is frequently seen in the lungs and liver, but its presentation in the oral cavity is rare. In the oral cavity, gingival region is the common sites of occurrence. We report a rare case of epitheloid hemangioendothelioma in a 48-year-old male, presenting as a growth in the upper anterior gingiva of five months duration along with a review of its clinicopathological and immunohistochemical characteristics.

An increase in the proportion of cases with neoplasia observed in a collection of captive red kangaroos (Macropus rufus) when compared with historical records and the paucity of reported neoplasms in kangaroos in the literature prompted a 10-yr review of all red kangaroo necropsies. Individual necropsy, medical, and inventory records for all kangaroos at the Kansas City Zoo were reviewed for the period 1 January 1992 to 31 December 2002. Two squamous cell carcinomas of the oral cavity, two mammary gland adenocarcinomas, a multicentric T-cell lymphosarcoma, and one submucosal pyloric lipoma wer

Mandibular osteosarcoma is a rare neoplasm, appearing in young adults as a mass often accompanied by pain, occasionally with paraesthesias, gingival haemorrhages and mobility of teeth, and rarely with ulceration of the skin or mucosa. Roentgenological lytic and/or sclerotic findings are non-specific. Some patients have a previous history of Paget's disease, antecedent radiation treatment, or fibrous dysplasia. Malignant osteoid production can be minimal, resulting in diagnostic difficulties. We report a case of a 33 year-old woman, who, in the absence of a clinical soil associated with the con

A seven-year-old neutered/male Siberian Husky-cross dog was referred for evaluation of a gingival mass. Two years previously, the referring veterinarian had resected an ossifying epulis from the same area between the maxillary left first and second premolars. The neoplasm recurred 4-months after the original surgery. En bloc resection provided tumor-free margins. An oral examination 12-months following surgery indicated no gross signs of recurrence.

THE AIM OF THE STUDY: Was to analyze possible correlation between the concentration of the pro-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-6 and the activation marker of osteoclasts cathepsin K in the gingival fluid during osteoresorption of inflammatory (periimplantitis, chronic generalized periodontitis) and malignant oncological origin (malignant neoplasm of gums).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study comprised 87 individuals of both sexes aged 30 to 60: 20 patients (group 1) with periimplantitis, 30 people with chronic generalized periodontitis (CGP) (group 2), 22 patients with squamous cell carcinoma

Oral manifestations may be the earliest indicators of HIV infection as it has strong association with oral candidiasis, hairy leukoplakia, linear gingival erythema, necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis, necrotizing ulcerative periodontitis, Kaposi sarcoma, and lymphoma. Other conditions such as diffuse infiltrative lymphocytosis syndrome, benign lymphoepithelial cyst, and salivary gland neoplasm have also been reported in HIV patients. Ranulas are caused by salivary leakage from the sublingual gland as a result of ductal obstruction or trauma. At the present time, there is no clear evidence of a

Calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor (CEOT) is an extremely rare, benign neoplasm, accounting for approximately 1% of all odontogenic tumors. Peripheral CEOTs commonly resemble oral hyperplastic or reactive lesions and are histologically similar to their intraosseous counterparts. We report an unusual case of multifocal peripheral CEOT. A 40-year-old female presented with bilateral soft, painful, erythematous, gingival swellings localized in premolar areas of the mandibular gingiva. The presumptive diagnosis was bilateral pyogenic granuloma. The masses were surgically excised under local an

Peripheral ameloblastoma is a rare, benign, slow-growing odontogenic neoplasm prevalent in the mandible. It originates from the odontogenic epithelium and its remnants, and its histological characteristics are identical to those of intraosseous ameloblastoma. It is less aggressive and invasive than its intraosseous variety, with a low recurrence rate. This report vividly portrays a rare case of peripheral ameloblastoma in a young male patient, detailing its clinical and surgical presentation. It effectively underscores the importance of considering peripheral ameloblastoma in the differential

A chordoma was removed from the tail base of a 6.5-year-old ferret (Mustela putorius furo). A nodule was observed in the area of tumor development when the ferret was purchased at 3 months of age. Although the nodule did not enlarge for 2 years, slow, steady growth of the tumor was observed for 4 years before surgical removal. Eight months after removal of the chordoma, the ferret developed 2 cutaneous masses. One was adjacent to the vulva, close to where the chordoma had been removed from, whereas the other was in the nasofacial region. After 4 months of slow growth, both masses were removed

The central giant cell granuloma displays a varied biologic behaviour ranging from simple reactive lesions to aggressive neoplasms. The pathogenicity still remains enigmatic and needs to be differentiated from other giant cell containing lesions. Both maxilla and mandible are affected and 80% involve the region anterior to the first premolar region. CGCL arises centrally within bone, whereas PGCG is a gingival soft tissue lesion. Clinical and radiographic correlation is required to rule out a peripheral giant cell granuloma. The case described here was a rare presentation of a large epulis cli

The epithelioid hemangioendothelioma is an uncommon vascular neoplasm of borderline or intermediate malignant potential. Although numerous sites of involvement are possible, these tumors most commonly arise in soft tissue, liver, and lung. Involvement of the oral cavity is rare. Only 12 cases of intraoral epithelioid hemangioendothelioma have been reported in the English language literature. We review the salient features of these previously reported cases and present 2 additional intraoral cases--one presenting as an asymptomatic radiolucency in the posterior mandible of a 23-year-old female,

Drug-induced gingival overgrowth (DIGO) can be a serious concern for both patients and clinicians. DIGO is a well-documented side-effect of some pharmacologic agents, including, but not limited to, calcium channel blockers, phenytoin, and cyclosporine. Plasma cell granulomas (pseudotumors) are exceedingly rare, non-neoplastic, reactive tumor-like proliferation, primarily composed of plasma cells that manifest primarily in the lungs, but may occur in various anatomic locations. Intraoral plasma cell granulomas involving the lip, oral mucosa, tongue, and gingiva have been reported in the past. T

Gingival enlargement refers to an increase in the size of the gingival tissue. The etiology varies, and often is multifactorial; however, local and systemic conditions, disease, and idiopathic factors may contribute to gingival enlargement. Tissue consistency can vary from soft and spongy to dense, typically appearing darker in shade compared to the drug-induced gingival enlargement. Treatment modalities usually involve surgical removal of excess tissue, non-surgical debridement, use of chemotherapeutic agents, and/or elimination or mitigation of contributing factors and conditions.

Odontogenic tumours are uncommon neoplasms in domestic animals, mostly solitary and locally infiltrative, but rarely metastatic. We report the case of a 13-year-old neutered male cat presented with a mandibular gingival neoformation. A computed tomography scan revealed an irregular neoformation with marked post-contrast enhancement, associated with lysis of the incisive bone and mandibular symphysis. Histologically, the oral mucosa and mandibular bone were infiltrated by a neoplasm consisting of a mixed population of odontogenic epithelium admixed with bundles of odontogenic ectomesenchyme, mu

Peripheral cemento-ossifying fibroma (PCOF) is a rare, reactive osteogenic neoplasm that presents as an epulis-like growth with unknown pathogenesis. This lesion commonly affects the younger generation. Frequently associated with the maxilla, it is more common in the anterior region. Here, we present a rare case of a 54-year-old male patient with a painless gingival swelling in the mandible for a period of one year. Prompt diagnosis through complete radiographic and histopathologic examination is critical for proper diagnosis of this lesion. Proper surgical removal with complete curettage is e
