Efficacy of Low-level Laser Therapy, Hyaluronic Acid Gel, and Herbal Gel as Adjunctive Tools in Gingivectomy Wound Healing: A Randomized Comparative Clinical and Histological Study.

Introduction Gingival overgrowth is usually an inflammatory response to plaque present on tooth surfaces. The other causes could be drugs and other systemic conditions. When the local factors are responsible and subgingival scaling does not help, gingivectomy is performed. The gingivectomy wound is raw and heals slowly. Low-level laser therapy (LLLT), hyaluronic acid, and herbal gels aid in healing after a gingivectomy. This study compared the efficacy of LLLT, hyaluronic acid, and herbal gel when used topically after a gingivectomy. This was a single-arm, interventional trial wherein 30 patie

Treatment and long-term follow-up of a patient with hereditary gingival fibromatosis: a case report.

This report addresses the complex nature of oral diagnosis, treatment and long-term case management in the hereditary form of recurrent gingival fibromatosis. Case management is discussed in relation to a 13-year-old girl who presented with recurrent, progressive gingival enlargement requiring consecutive periodontal and orthodontic treatment. The initial course of treatment included 4-quadrant gingivectomy with reverse bevel incisions, followed by orthodontics. Microscopic examination of the gingivectomy specimens supported the clinical diagnosis. Three years later, recurrence of the conditio

Management of Chronic Inflammatory Gingival Enlargement Using Conventional and Electrosurgical Techniques in an Orthodontic Patient: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Chronic inflammatory gingival enlargement associated with orthodontic appliances may interfere with oral hygiene maintenance and orthodontic treatment. When non-surgical therapy is unsuccessful, gingivectomy may be indicated. Conventional scalpel and electrosurgical techniques are both established treatment modalities for gingival tissue excision, each with distinct clinical characteristics. This case report aims to describe the management of chronic inflammatory gingival enlargement in an orthodontic patient treated with conventional scalpel and electrosurgical gingivectomy. CASE

Management of Orthodontic-Induced Gingival Enlargement: A Case Report.

The aetiology of gingival enlargement (GE) is highly distinct. Plaque-induced gingival inflammation can be the sole reason for gingival enlargement. Poor dental hygiene, irritation from anatomical variations, and ineffective restorative and orthodontic appliances are all factors that encourage the formation and retention of plaque. In the given case report, a case of gingival enlargement associated with an orthodontic appliance of a 23-year-old female patient referred from the Department of Orthodontics was reported to the Department of Periodontics. Under local anaesthesia, the excess gingiva

Re-eruption of traumatically intruded mature permanent incisor: case report.

This case report describes a case of intrusion of the right mature permanent central incisor. After gingivectomy and endodontic treatment with changes of the intracanal dressing (calcium hydroxide paste) every 30 days, spontaneous re-eruption was observed. We conclude that waiting for spontaneous re-eruption associated with gingivectomy and endodontic treatment is an alternative treatment for severe intrusive luxations in mature permanent teeth.

Anesthetic management of a patient with Sturge-Weber syndrome undergoing oral surgery.

This case involves a possible complication of excessive bleeding or rupture of hemangiomas. Problems and anesthetic management of the patient are discussed. A 35-year-old man with Sturge-Weber syndrome was to undergo teeth extraction and gingivectomy. Hemangiomas covered his face and the inside of the oral cavity. We used intravenous conscious sedation with propofol and N2O-O2 to reduce the patient's emotional stress. It was previously determined that stress caused marked expansion of this patient's hemangiomas. Periodontal ligament injection was chosen as the local anesthesia technique. Teeth

Focus of epithelial dysplasia arising in hereditary gingival fibromatosis.

The gingiva of a 32-year-old black male was biopsied for evidence of vasculitis, but instead an area of epithelial dysplasia was found. Further investigation revealed that the patient and several members of his family had hereditary gingival fibromatosis. Treatment included four quadrants of gingivectomy plus inverse bevel incisions for trimming those areas which were too thick for simple gingivectomy. Histopathologic examination of the excised tissues supported the diagnosis of gingival fibromatosis, but no other areas of epithelial dysplasia were seen. To our knowledge, this is the only repo

A Rare Case of Plasma Cell Gingivitis with Cheilitis.

BACKGROUND: Plasma cell gingivitis (PCG) is a rare condition of the gingiva, characterized histopathologically by infiltration of plasma cells in connective tissue. Hypersensitivity reaction due to antigen is considered as primary etiological factor. CASE PRESENTATION: The present case is of an 18-year-old male patient suffering from gingival enlargement along with cheilitis. Histopathological and immunohistochemistry of tissue revealed lesion as plasma cell gingivitis. After gingivectomy, the follow up of the patient was done for 8 months. Gradual reduction of lip swelling was observed after

Lectin binding patterns in regenerated rat junctional epithelium.

Junctional epithelium (JE) originates from reduced enamel epithelium and is replaced by cells from oral gingival epithelium (OGE) shortly after tooth eruption. Although derived from OGE, cells of JE exhibit both morphologic and functional differences from precursor tissue. We sought to elucidate these differences by investigating histochemical localization of cell surface glycoconjugates in regenerated epithelial cells following gingivectomy in the rat. Distribution and reaction patterns of lectins (Ulex europaeus agglutinin-I, peanut agglutinin, soybean agglutinin, and wheat germ agglutinin)

Effect of the topical use of the antioxidant taurine on the two basement membrane proteins of regenerating oral gingival epithelium.

BACKGROUND: The essential amino acid taurine has important physiologic and pathologic roles, and has been shown to have osmoregulatory, antioxidative, antiapoptotic, anti-inflammatory, and antilipid activities. However, the response of oral gingival epithelium to taurine during wound healing remains unclear. The goal of this study is to evaluate the expression of laminin 5 and Type IV collagen histologically in regenerating gingival epithelium after direct application of taurine on incised human gingival samples. METHODS: The study was conducted on 16 gingival samples obtained from gingivecto
