Equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) enhances reproductive responses in CIDR-EB treated lactating anovular Nili-Ravi buffalo during the breeding season.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) on the estrous response, ovulatory follicle development, ovulation rate, corpus luteum (CL) diameter, concentrations of progesterone (P4) and pregnancy per AI (P/AI) in CIDR-EB treated lactating anovular Nili-Ravi buffalo during the breeding season. Buffalo (n = 87), 60 to 200 Days postpartum were treated with CIDR at a random stage of the estrous cycle (Day 0) and assigned to two groups; with eCG (+eCG; n = 44), or without eCG (-eCG; n = 43). In both groups, each animal received 2 and 1 mg estradiol

Early postpartum administration of equine chorionic gonadotropin to dairy cows calved during the hot season: Effects on fertility after first artificial insemination.

Heat stress reduces fertility of high-producing dairy cows, and early administration of equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) may improve it. Here, 401 heat-stressed, high-producing dairy cows on a single commercial farm were given eCG (500 UI, n = 214) or saline (n = 187) on days 11-17 after calving, and the effects on fertility after the first artificial insemination (AI) were assessed. On post-partum day 96.34 ± 9.88, all cows were inseminated after a "double short Cosynch" synchronization protocol. Ovarian activity and uterine status were checked by ultrasound on the day of eCG administratio

High Dosages of Equine Chorionic Gonadotropin Exert Adverse Effects on the Developmental Competence of IVF-Derived Mouse Embryos and Cause Oxidative Stress-Induced Aneuploidy.

Gonadotropins play vital roles in the regulation of female reproductive ability and fertility. Our study aimed to determine the effects of superovulation induced by increasing doses of equine chorionic gonadotropin [eCG; also referred to as pregnant mare serum gonadotropin (PMSG)] on the developmental competence of mouse embryos and on aneuploidy formation during in vitro fertilization (IVF). eCG dose-dependently enhanced the oocyte yield from each mouse. Administration of 15 IU eCG significantly reduced the fertilization rate and the formation of four-cell embryos and blastocysts and increase

Oestrus Synchronisation with Progesterone-containing Sponge and Equine Chorionic Gonadotropin in Pirlak Ewes During the Non-breeding Season: Can Toryum Improve Fertility Parameters?

INTRODUCTION: The aim of the study was to determine the effect of the vitamins, omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid and minerals in the supplement Toryum administered before and during oestrus synchronisation on some fertility parameters of ewes during the non-breeding season. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The experimental animals were clinically healthy Pirlak ewes, 55-75 days postpartum, aged 2-4 years and weighing 40-50 kg. A sponge was inserted into the vagina for 10 d (G1, n = 30; G2, n = 30) or 14 d (G3, n = 30; G4, n = 30) for oestrus synchronisation, and on the day of removal, 400 IU equine ch

The negative effect of repeated equine chorionic gonadotropin treatment on subsequent fertility in Alpine goats is due to a humoral immune response involving the major histocompatibility complex.

In dairy goats, the use of eCG as a convenient hormone for the induction of ovulation is necessary for out-of-season breeding and artificial insemination. However, repeated eCG treatments are followed by decreased fertility in goats inseminated at a fixed time after treatment. In this report, we show the presence of anti-eCG antibodies in plasma of treated goats. A 500 IU eCG injection induces a humoral response, with variable concentrations of anti-eCG antibody being produced in individual goats. The analysis of successive anti-eCG immune responses over several years has demonstrated the exis

Oxytocin in mares: lack of evidence for oxytocin production by or action on preovulatory follicles.

It is not known whether the equine preovulatory follicle produces oxytocin or is a target tissue for oxytocin, as has been reported for other species, especially ruminants. Bovine granulosa cells secrete oxytocin, and oxytocin modulates the production of progesterone by granulosa cells in vitro. We examined whether oxytocin plays a comparable role in the equine preovulatory follicle. To test the hypothesis that the equine preovulatory follicle produces oxytocin during estrus and that its production increases in late estrus, preovulatory follicles were isolated during early (Days 1 to 2; n = 4)

Why does castrated male odor attract sexually active male rats?-Attractivity induced by hypothalamus-pituitary-gonad axis block.

Sexually experienced male rats show an olfactory preference for estrous female odor compared to male odor. Notably, they also prefer castrated male over gonadally intact male odor. This study examined the role of elevated circulating gonadotropins and gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) induced by disinhibition of the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonad axis in the castration-induced attractiveness of male rats. Experiment I compared preference of sexually experienced males between odors of castrated males injected with a GnRH antagonist (Cast+Ant), castrated males injected with saline (Cast), and

Gonadotropin stimulation in mice leads to ovarian accumulation of immature myeloid cells and altered expression of proangiogenic genes.

OBJECTIVE: Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome is associated with increased angiogenesis and vascular leakage. Immature myeloid cells (IMCs) and dendritic cells have been shown to be actively involved in angiogenesis in several disease models in mice and humans. Nevertheless, little is known about the role of these cells in the ovary. As such, this study sought to determine whether alterations in these ovarian myeloid cell populations are associated with gonadotropin stimulation in a mouse model. STUDY DESIGN: Four-week-old pre-pubertal C57Bl/6 female mice were allocated into three groups: high
