BACKGROUND: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is an important public health concern because of its role in healthcare-associated infections, antimicrobial resistance, and potential transmission in clinical environments. Dental students may be exposed to MRSA through patient contact, aerosols, contaminated surfaces, and routine clinical procedures. This study assessed MRSA-related knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) among clinical dental students and identified predictors of infection-control practice.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted among clinical dental

OBJECTIVES: The reliability of practicing dentists' classifications of patients' caries risk and periodontal disease risk and reason for treatment for individual teeth were determined. The risk classification protocols had been in use in a group practice for more than a year, and the reason-for-treatment protocol had been introduced six months previously.
METHODS: Eight dentists' classifications for caries (n = 66) and periodontal disease risk (n = 66), and six dentists' classifications for reason for treatment (n = 73) were compared to those of a nominal standard examiner. Reliability was ex

Cost efficiency of removing third molars in a practice specialising in minor oral surgery was compared to that of a hospital oral surgery department. A total of 100 patients treated in each locality were prospectively audited during the financial year 1989-90. Surgical complexity, waiting time, complications and patient satisfaction were compared. The hospital cases were costed individually and compared to fees received for the patients treated in the practice. The practice fees were also compared to average expenses as assessed by the Dental Rates Study Group Inland Revenue Enquiry. Patients

Local analgesics are the most commonly used group drugs in dental practice. However, due to their frequent use and high margin of safety, often dental practitioners neglect to properly understand the biology and pharmacology of these drugs. This article reviews the basic concepts of pain, pain pathways, the mode of action of local analgesics and factors which affect their usage. Specific details and properties of some currently available solutions are also outlined. A greater understanding of the biology and pharmacology of local anaesthetics will ultimately lead to safer and more effective us

BACKGROUND: Despite the updated guidelines on dental impression disinfection protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic, adherence to such procedures has not been studied among dental health professionals in Saudi Arabia. Understanding DHPs' knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding COVID-19 is crucial in assessing a willingness to adhere to the recommendations provided by health authorities in mitigating the spread of COVID-19 via dental impressions impacting patient safety and infection control measures. Hence, this study aimed to assess dental health professionals' (DHPs) knowledge, attitud

In the dental practice--for more than a 100 years--it has been a vital topic how to prevent, eliminate, or at least relieve pain and fear associated with dental treatments. 'Fogorvosi Szemle,' the scientific journal of the Hungarian Dental Association is now a 100 years old. Authors present how the approaches and methods of relieving pain and fear have changed in the past century, based on the reports published in this journal. The reports are grouped in three main topics: local anaesthetics and sedatives; ambulatory narcosis and sedative analgesia; hypnosis and hypnotherapy. Based on the publ

The objective of this study was to explore the preferred dental services of older people for when they become dependent. It aimed to assess their preferred type of health care professional and location of dental service, and relate their preferences to their willingness to pay (WTP) and willingness to travel (WTT). Older people aged 65 years or older were invited to participate in a questionnaire-based discrete choice experiment (DCE), to measure preferences for dental examinations and treatment, defined by two attributes: type of professional and location of the activity. BACKGROUNDS: Safe dental treatments that prevent nosocomial and cross-infections are essential for patients and dental workers. However, dental students sometimes pay inadequate attention to infection control, especially in preclinical practice, because of too much focus on technical training, such as the use of equipment, etc. The spread of infections such as SARS-CoV-2, antibiotic-resistant bacteria, and oral bacteria are sometimes lethal for medically compromised patients. Thus, the rapid and inexpensive detection system to detect and measure dental practice-related infection spread during
