PURPOSE: Peyronie's disease has been associated with HLA tissue types, including HLA-A1, DR3, DQw2 and HLA-B7 cross-reactive group antigens which include HLA-B27. Twelve monoclonal antibodies (HC-MoAb) were prepared against a mixture of denatured HLA-B7 and -B40 heavy chains and were characterized by biochemical methods. The patterns of reactivity of 11 out of 12 of these MoAb were very similar and showed marked preference for the HLA-B locus heavy chains. A possible HLA disease association was investigated in 40 patients (38 female, 2 male) with progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS) and 42 patients (32 female, 10 male) with morphea. The HLA A, B, C, DR phenotypes of patients were compared with 193 healthy controls. HLA-A, B and DR antigens were determined in 33 patients suffering from confirmed alcoholic hepatitis, with or without cirrhosis. Past alcohol consumption and plasma immunoglobulins were also determined in 21 cases. Several reports have found conflicting data regarding the association between lichen sclerosus et atrophicus (LSA) and HLA types. Previously we have performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) on psoriasis with 1,359 cases and 1,400 controls, which were genotyped for 447,249 SNPs. Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a common, highly heritable, inflammatory arthritis for which HLA-B*27 is the major genetic risk factor, although its role in the aetiology of AS remains elusive. We report a case of Chlamydia-associated arthritis in a 40-year-old man. The patient experienced four episodes of Chlamydia trachomatis urtethritis within a few years.
