Cluster headache (CH) is recognized as one of the most severe primary headache disorders and belongs to the group of trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias (TACs). Traditionally regarded as a distinct clinical entity under the International Classification of Headache Disorders, 3rd edition (ICHD-3), CH has been increasingly documented over the past two decades to frequently co-occur or overlap with other primary headache disorders, challenging this conventional view. This narrative review synthesizes available evidence from the PubMed and ScienceDirect databases on the comorbidity or clinical overl

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether neuropsychological functioning was impaired among individuals with pediatric primary headache disorders (PHD) compared with individuals without headaches. Adults with migraine appear to evidence deficits in neuropsychological performance, but few reviews have examined whether cognitive performance is impaired among children and adolescents with primary headache disorders.
METHODS: we considered studies using a validated clinical neuropsychological measure among pediatric samples (<20-y old) that included a phd and control sample. two authors independently review

Headaches are a common reason for pediatric visits to the emergency department. Emergency clinicians must distinguish between common and dangerous secondary causes of headache and primary headache disorders such as migraine and tension-type headaches. This issue discusses the diagnosis of primary headaches by history and physical examination, the options for first-line treatment of primary headache and for severe or refractory migraines, and procedural interventions that may be considered when other therapies have failed. Guidance is provided for patient and family education regarding triggers

Neurostimulation for primary headaches is being increasingly utilized as a treatment modality. Use of neuromoduation has generated multiple case reports as well as some controlled studies. This article is the first of 2 systematic reviews of available data regarding neurostimulation for primary headache conditions. The pathophysiology, relative anatomy, theoretical mechanisms, and history of neurostimulation for primary headache are covered in this section, Part 1 of 2. The literature regarding peripheral neurostimulatory targets is also reviewed in Part 1. These peripheral targets include: pe

The primary headache disorders, which include migraine, cluster headache and tension-type headache, are among the most common diseases and leading causes of disability worldwide. The available treatment options for primary headache disorders have unsatisfactory rates of efficacy, tolerability and patient adherence. In this Review, we discuss promising new approaches for the prevention of primary headache disorders, such as monoclonal antibodies targeting calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) or its receptor, and small-molecule CGRP receptor antagonists. Neuromodulation approaches employing no

Primary headache disorder is the main cause of headache attacks, leading to significant disability and impaired quality of life. This disorder is increasingly recognized as a heterogeneous condition with a complex network of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. However, the timely diagnosis and effective treatment of these headaches remain challenging. Precision medicine is a potential strategy based on P4 (predictive, preventive, personalized, and participatory) medicine that may bring new insights for headache care. Recent machine learning advances and widely available molecular bi

BACKGROUND: The diagnosis of headache disorders relies on the correct classification of individual headache attacks. Currently, this is mainly done by clinicians in a clinical setting, which is dependent on subjective self-reported input from patients. Existing classification apps also rely on self-reported information and lack validation. Therefore, the exploratory mBrain study investigates moving to continuous, semi-autonomous and objective follow-up and classification based on both self-reported and objective physiological and contextual data.

BACKGROUND: The role of inflammation and cytokines in the pathophysiology of primary headache disorders is uncertain. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to synthesise the results of studies comparing peripheral blood cytokine levels between patients with migraine, tension-type headache, cluster headache, or new daily persistent headache (NDPH), and healthy controls; and in migraine between the ictal and interictal stages.
METHODS: We searched PubMed/Medline and Embase from inception until July 2022. We included original research studies which measured unstimulated levels of an

BACKGROUND: Primary headache disorders are common and burdensome conditions. They are associated to several comorbidities, such as cardiovascular or psychiatric ones, which, in turn, contribute to the global burden of headache. The aim of this study is to provide a comprehensive description of the pooled prevalence of comorbidities of primary headache disorders using a meta-analytical approach based on studies published between 2000 and 2020.
METHODS: Scopus was searched for primary research (clinical and population studies) in which medical comorbidities were described in adults with primary
