Impacts of a measles outbreak in Western Sydney on public health resources.

During February and March 2011, an outbreak of 26 confirmed cases of measles was reported to the Parramatta Public Health Unit (PHU) in western Sydney. This paper describes the impact of the outbreak on PHU resources. A retrospective review of information obtained from case notification forms and associated contact tracing records was carried out for each of the confirmed cases. Seven cases (27%) required hospital admission for more than 1 day and 10 (38%) cases required management within a hospital emergency department. There were no cases of encephalitis or death. The number of contacts was

[Infrastructure and resources of social, educational and health support in rare diseases].

Rare diseases (RD) pose a great challenge to our society in different fields: health, social and educational. This means that multidisciplinary interventions are required that deal with the negative impact of these diseases on the people affected and their families. In order to minimise the repercussion of these problems there are a series of support resources in the different fields referred to (social, educational and health) that provide welfare, favour social integration and improve the quality of life of the people affected and their families. With respect to the educational field we pres

Health human resources shortages in radiography and sustainable workforce development in Australia.

OBJECTIVES: Health Human Resources (HHR) are critical for the effective functioning of healthcare systems, yet significant shortages exist, particularly in radiography. The increasing demand for diagnostic radiography services, driven by advancements in medical technology, an aging population, and the prevalence of chronic diseases, exacerbates these shortages. The COVID-19 pandemic further highlighted workforce vulnerabilities, increasing workloads and burnout. This review examines HHR shortages in radiography in Australia and proposes strategies for sustainable workforce development. KEY FI

The role of social resources and trajectories of functional health following stroke.

Stroke is a major cause of disability in old age. Research has revealed that social resources available after the onset of stroke can mitigate functional prognosis. However, most studies have conceptualized resources as static rather than dynamic and have not measured changes in social resources from the pre-to post-stroke periods. To better understand the recovery process following stroke, we examined how social resources available before its onset and changes from pre-to post-stroke were associated with trajectories of functional health following stroke. Data were derived from an up to 19-ye

Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) for Interoperability in Health Research: Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: The standard Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) is widely used in health information technology. However, its use as a standard for health research is still less prevalent. To use existing data sources more efficiently for health research, data interoperability becomes increasingly important. FHIR provides solutions by offering resource domains such as "Public Health & Research" and "Evidence-Based Medicine" while using already established web technologies. Therefore, FHIR could help standardize data across different data sources and improve interoperability in healt
