OBJECT: Capillary hemangiomas are benign tumors or tumorlike lesions that originate from blood vessels and have rarely been reported to develop in the brain or spinal cord. The authors summarize the clinical and histological features of capillary hemangiomas of the central nervous system (CNS).
METHODS: The clinical features, imaging characteristics, and outcomes in 10 patients with CNS capillary hemangiomas were reviewed. Histological studies included immunostaining with CD31, alpha-smooth muscle actin, vascular endothelial growth factor, and Ki-67 antigen. Three patients with lesions in the

We describe a 43-year-old white man who rapidly developed multiple, extensive angiomatous lesions on the temple and scalp after excision of a solitary lobular capillary hemangioma. This is a well-recognized but rare event. Our case differs from previously reported examples in terms of the age of the patient, the location and extent of the lesions, the histologic features in the form of small foci of angiosarcoma-like infiltration, and possibly with respect to the response to therapeutic intervention. Because of the alarming clinical picture produced by multiple lobular capillary hemangiomas, i

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) diagnosis requires clinical, laboratory, endoscopic and histologic findings, and sometimes it can become a challenge. An exhaustive differential diagnosis with infectious disease, immunodeficiencies, hematologic, neoplastic, or vascular diseases must be made1, since prognosis and treatment vary depending on etiology. We present the case of a 62-year-old man, with no personal history of interest, who undergoes a colonoscopy after a positive colorectal cancer screening test (fecal occult blood test). In the endoscopy, a continuous involvement was observed from th

BACKGROUND: Capillary hemangioma is a rare benign hemangioma that occurs in the soft tissues of the skin, orbit, head, and neck. Intracranial cases, especially intraparenchymal cases, are extremely rare. In this study, we report the course of an intracranial parenchymal capillary hemangioma with left mild motor paresis and involuntary movements of the left upper extremity and was successfully treated by surgical resection, including radiological and pathological examinations.
CASE DESCRIPTION: This is a case of a 60-year-old woman who presented with motor weakness and involuntary movement of

BACKGROUND: Lobular capillary hemangioma is a benign vascular tumor commonly found within the skin and upper respiratory mucosa and has rarely been reported within the trachea. The first case was reported by Irani et al. in 2003 and since then, less than 20 cases have been described. That's why the characteristics and treatments remain relatively unknown.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 53-year-old woman was symptomatic of recurrent episodes of hemoptysis associated with paroxysmal dyspnea. Physical examination, routine blood investigations, and chest x-ray were normal. The flexible bronchoscopy showed

We present the case of a fetus with cardiac capillary hemangioma in the right atrial cavity. The tumor showed dramatic growth between the 28th and 32nd week of gestation and resulted in tachyarrhythmia. The patient was born at the 33 weeks of gestation weighing 2430 g via urgent cesarean section because the rapidly growing cardiac tumor caused incessant tachyarrhythmia, pericardial effusion, and fetal circulatory incompetence. Coronary angiography revealed that the right coronary artery drained into the tumor. Due to hemodynamic deterioration, the patient underwent subtotal resection of the tu

We report a very rare case of intracranial capillary hemangioma. This 15-year-old girl complained of pulsating headache in the temple area that aggravated with change of body positions. This headache usually lasted for 5 min and resolved without any treatment. Preoperative computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) strongly suggested cavernous hemangioma in the right deep parietal lobe. She underwent complete resection of the tumor through right parietal craniotomy. Postoperative course was uneventful. Histologic examinations demonstrated a densely grown numerous capillary-l

Pyogenic granuloma is a tumor-like proliferation to a non-specific infection. The tumor-like growth is considered to be non-neoplastic in nature and presents in various clinical and histological forms in the oral cavity. Hemangiomas are benign vascular anomalies characterized by benign proliferation of blood vessels. The aim of this article is to drive attention toward the uncommon location of capillary hemangioma on the palate. In spite of their benign nature, intraoral capillary hemangiomas are always clinically important to be diagnosed well in time and suitably managed. The lesion in the p

Capillary hemangiomas are common soft tissue tumors on the skin or mucosa of the head and neck in the early childhood, but very rare in the neuraxis. A 47-year-old man presented with one month history of back pain on the lower thoracic area, radiating pain to both legs, and hypesthesia below T7 dermatome. Thoracic spine MRI showed 1×1.3×1.5 cm, well-defined intradural mass at T6-7 disc space level, which showed isointensity to spinal cord on T1, heterogeneous isointensity on T2-weighted images, and homogeneous strong enhancement. The patient underwent T6-7 total laminotomy, complete tumor remo

Hemangiomas, which are usually found in the skin, are extremely rare in an intradural location. An unusual case of capillary hemangioma intimate to the cauda equina is discussed. This entity has not previously been reported in the pediatric or adolescent population to the best of our knowledge, although it has been reported in adults.

OBJECTIVE: To describe a previously unreported condition of the neonatal larynx.
DESIGN: Case series of 4 neonates with an uncommon laryngeal lesion.
SETTING: Tertiary care children's hospital.
PATIENTS: Four neonates in the first 10 days of life with stridor, hoarseness, and respiratory distress.
INTERVENTION: The patients were examined using flexible fiberoptic laryngoscopy, and laryngeal lesions were identified and subsequently removed using microlaryngoscopy. Photodocumentation of the lesions was performed. Microscopic evaluation of biopsy specimens by a pathologist followed.
MAIN OUT

Peripapillary staphyloma is usually unassociated with other ocular and systemic anomalies. A 5-year-old girl presented with peripapillary staphyloma in association with extensive ipsilateral orofacial capillary hemangioma involving the right forehead, right upper and lower eyelids, the right cheek, and the hard palate. She had received oral corticosteroids to induce regression of the hemangiomas at six months of age. On our examination, her visual acuity was counting fingers at two meters right eye and 20/20 left eye. She had mild right upper eyelid ptosis and right exotropia. Imaging studies

A case of intraneural capillary hemangioma involving the dorsal root of a spinal nerve of the cauda equina is reported. The patient was a 41-year-old man with a 3-month history of intermittent left lumbosciatalgia. MRI and CT myelography showed a space-occupying mass at the level of the cauda equina. Laminectomy of L5 and complete removal of the lesion were performed without neurological problems. The clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic aspects of hemangiomas of the cauda equina are analyzed.

PURPOSE: Retinal capillary hemangioma, often associated with von Hippel-Lindau syndrome, is not characteristically seen in other conditions. We report a patient with Marshall-Stickler syndrome who had a retinal capillary hemangioma.
METHOD: A 31-year-old man with Marshall-Stickler syndrome was evaluated for a retinal vascular tumor.
RESULTS: Evaluation showed a retinal capillary hemangioma of the von Hippel type. Magnetic resonance imaging disclosed no tumors of brain, kidney, or other organs. The retinal tumor was treated with cryotherapy.
CONCLUSION: Retinal capillary hemangioma is not pa

A 43-year-old man reported a 2-month history of numerous widespread vascular lesions that had developed suddenly on his scalp, trunk, and extremities. The lesions were 2 to 6 mm in diameter, firm, dark red papules that bled easily with minor trauma. Histopathologic examination of four lesions revealed lobular capillary hemangioma, also known as pyogenic granuloma. Treated lesions did not recur after surgical excision or electrocauterization. Five months after the onset of the eruption, no new lesions were developing, and some were resolving spontaneously after bleeding. Eruptive, disseminated

Background and objectives: Capillary hemangiomas are rare, benign vascular tumors that mainly affect the skin and soft tissue, with scarce appearance within the nasal cavities and paranasal sinuses. Materials and methods: We present a case report of capillary hemangioma of the sphenoid sinus and a review of the literature in the last ten years. Results: Clinical and endoscopic examination of the nose, radiologic assessment and particular histologic features contribute to the correct diagnosis of capillary hemangioma of the nose and paranasal sinuses. Conclusions: Transnasal endoscopic resectio
