INTRODUCTION: Hoffa fractures, accounting for 0.65% of femoral fractures, are rare injuries to the distal femur, typically affecting the lateral condyle. These fractures are often overlooked in radiographs and pose challenges in classification, as traditional systems like Letenneur's may not adequately address certain unique fracture patterns, as seen in the present case.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 25-year-old male with trauma to the left knee and pelvis was diagnosed with a pelvic open-book injury and a coronal split Hoffa fracture of the lateral femoral condyle. Surgical fixation involved externa

BACKGROUND Hoffa fractures are an uncommon form of coronal fracture that impact the femoral condyle. As a result, they are not very prevalent. It is necessary to perform anatomical reduction and rigorous fixation on these fractures; however, there is no consensus among medical professionals on the surgical procedure and implant that would be the most successful in treating these fractures. CASE REPORT A 50-year-old woman who had poliomyelitis in her right lower limb presented with a displaced medial Hoffa fracture of her left knee. She had fallen and was suffering from poliomyelitis. The traum

OBJECTIVES: Hoffa fractures represent coronal fractures of the femoral condyles. Isolated Hoffa fractures are rare and current management of these fractures is based on a few descriptions in literature. The goal of the study was to prospectively analyse the clinico-radiological and functional outcome following open surgical treatment.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 18 isolated Hoffa fractures were identified during the study period spanning 29 months. All fractures were treated by open reduction through a medial parapatellar approach. Internal fixation was performed with screws in the anter

Objective To evaluate a proposed three-dimensional (3D) printing process of a biomodel developed with the aid of fused deposition modeling (FDM) technology based on computed tomography (CT) scans of an individual with nonunion of a coronal femoral condyle fracture (Hoffa's fracture). Materials and Methods Thus, we used CT scans, which enable the evaluation of the 3D volumetric reconstruction of the anatomical model, as well as of the architecture and bone geometry of sites with complex anatomy, such as the joints. In addition, it enables the development of the virtual surgical planning (VSP)

A Hoffa fracture is a rare type of femoral fracture that is difficult to treat. Nonoperative treatments usually result in failure; hence, in most cases, surgical treatments are essential. Nonunion following Hoffa fracture appears to be relatively uncommon, and there are limited reports in the literature about this type of nonunion. These reports suggest that open reduction and rigid internal fixation is the standard treatment for this type of nonunion. This study reports the case of a 61-year-old male patient who suffered from left lateral Hoffa fracture after falling from a truck bed. At the

Hoffa fractures are rare intra-articular injuries, and nonunion of Hoffa fractures is rarer. We report the case of an adult male with a nonunion of a Hoffa fracture by open reduction and internal fixation in which the lateral meniscus tear was treated by an arthroscopic surgery. A healthy 38-year-old man who had a history of untreated trauma to the left knee in a motorcycle accident 11 years ago presented to our hospital with the complaint of chronic left knee pain for 5 years. The patient had an obvious valgus knee with 0°-140° of motion, and radiographs revealed the nonunion of the left late

INTRODUCTION: Hoffa fractures are the fractures of the femoral condyles in the coronal planes. These are uncommon in adults and notably rarer in pediatric population. In this fracture, either one or both the femoral condyles may get involved following the injury. Such rare clinical entity warrants a high index of suspicion with apt radiological corroboration for meticulously diagnosing and planning out the treatment.
CASE REPORT: We report a rare case of Hoffa fracture involving the medial femoral condyle of right knee and undisplaced right patella fracture in a 6-year-old girl. The radiologi

Femoral condyle fracture in coronal plane, also known as Hoffa fracture, is a rare fracture. Non-union of Hoffa fracture is even rarer. We present a case of fibrous nonunion of a Hoffa fracture in which the fractured fragment, though not freely movable, led to painful walking. Since the fragment was un-displaced and non-movable we fixed the fractured fragment in situ. Patient regained full range of motion of the knee and was asymptomatic on follow-up.

Medial condyle Hoffa fractures are intra articular injuries, which require prompt anatomical reduction and internal fixation. Arthroscopy-guided fixation of these fractures has also been advocated; the advantages include avoidance of soft tissue dissection, fast recovery and mobilization. We describe a case of a 28-year-old male patient presenting with a 10-day-old medial condylar Hoffa fracture. Skin condition prevented from conventional open reduction and internal fixation; hence, taking note of the urgency of fixation of an intraarticular fracture, arthroscopic-assisted minimally invasive a

Intraarticular coronal fracture of the femoral condyle is rare, and an isolated medial Hoffa fracture in a child is extremely rare. To our knowledge, such a case has not yet been reported in the literature. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are essential for a good long-term outcome. We report a case of 12-year-old male who suffered a traffic accident and sustained an isolated medial Hoffa fracture. Open reduction was performed using a subvastus approach and the joint surface congruity restored and secured by two large fragment partially threaded screws placed from anterior to posterior in

Irreducible knee dislocation due to incarcerated soft tissue structures in associated fractures is extremely uncommon. We report a case of irreducible, closed dislocation of the knee secondary to incarcerated patellar tendon in a Hoffa fracture (unicondylar fracture of femur in the coronal plane) with associated communited fracture of patella and disruption of both cruciates. We treated this case initially with open reduction and internal fixation of fracture and repair of the patellar tendon. During the total followup period of eighteen months, the patient had restricted joint range of motion

Solitary coronal shear fractures of femoral condyle, such as Hoffa's fracture, are usually associated with supracondylar or intercondylar fractures of the femur. These fractures are rare and seen in the context of high energy mechanism leading to multiple injuries; therefore a thorough workup of the patient is required to rule out other significant injuries. Hoffa's fracture associated with femoral shaft and proximal tibial fractures is extremely rare and no such injury has been reported previously. We report two such cases which were managed with standard operative fixation techniques and dem

RATIONALE: Hoffa fracture is a rare fracture confined to the coronal-plane involving femoral condyles. This occurs simultaneously with rotational dislocation of the knee joint is extremely rare. Up to now, there is no valid recommendation for the treatment of the Hoffa fracture.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 50-year-old female patient broke her knee joint while skiing, experiencing severe pain in the right knee, which was swollen. She presented limited function of the knee and movement upon arrival in the emergency room.
DIAGNOSIS: Comminuted Hoffa fracture in the right knee associated with rotational

Epiphyseal injuries of distal femur are rare with an incidence of 1%-6% among all physeal injuries. Prompt diagnosis and appropriate surgical treatment is crucial to achieve satisfactory functional outcomes. A conjoint bicondylar coronal split (Hoffa) fracture with complete transaction of ipsilateral patellar tendon has been reported in a 12 year old child. The injury was managed by open reduction and internal fixation and bone to tendon repair. This case emphasizes the need of accurate intraepiphyseal fixation for the management of these fractures in skeletally immature patients.

A Hoffa fracture is an uncommon clinical entity typically seen in adults after high-energy trauma. Nonunion of a Hoffa fracture appears to be even more uncommon. To our knowledge, only three cases of nonunion of a Hoffa fracture have been documented in the literature to date, including two children and one adult. This article presents a case of an adult who had nonunion of a Hoffa fracture for 27 years and was treated by open reduction and internal fixation, and the varus deformity corrected with xenogenous bone graft. An excellent result has been achieved to date. This unusual case reminds us

OBJECTIVE: Compare the biomechanical effectiveness of four different bone-implant constructs in preventing fracture displacement under axial loading.
METHODS: Twenty artificial femora had a standardized coronally oriented fracture of the lateral femoral condyle, representing a Hoffa fracture classified as a Letenneur type I. Four different fixation constructs were applied to the synthetic bones for biomechanical testing. The constructs consisted of a posterolateral (PL) buttressing locking plate in conjunction with two cannulated lag screws inserted from posterior to anterior (PA) - Group 1;
