The Emotional Freedom Technique: Finally, a Unifying Theory for the Practice of Holistic Nursing, or Too Good to Be True?

The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is defined and described as a clinical procedure for the relief of psychological and physical distress that patients often bring to the attention of nurses. Frequently referred to as "tapping," this technique combines the cognitive reprocessing benefits of exposure and acceptance therapy with the energetic disturbance releases associated with acupuncture and other energy therapies. More than 60 research articles in peer-reviewed journals report a staggering 98% efficacy rate with the use of this procedure from psychological distress (posttraumatic stress d

The Invisible Workforce: An Algorithmic Audit of Nursing, Primary Care, and Holistic Gaps in AI-Generated Survivorship Plans.

OBJECTIVES: Advanced ovarian cancer survivorship requires multidisciplinary coordination. As patients use large language models (LLMs) as clinical navigators, essential professional roles may be inconsistently represented. This study evaluates the comprehensiveness, professional attribution, and readability of LLM-generated survivorship plans. METHODS: An algorithmic audit (N = 50) queried ChatGPT-5.1 using a standardized persona: a 58-year-old advanced ovarian cancer survivor. A dual-layer content analysis assessed nine guideline-derived domains, distinguishing explicit professional attribut

Dual Perspectives: A Nurse-Patient's Lived Experience Informing Holistic Perioperative Care and Rehabilitation for Acoustic Neuroma.

BACKGROUND: Acoustic neuroma (AN), or vestibular schwannoma, accounts for 8% to 10% of intracranial neoplasms and 80% of cerebellopontine angle tumors. Postoperative vestibular symptoms are common, yet research has largely failed to integrate the perspectives of both health care providers and patients. METHOD: This case report documents the perioperative experiences of a nurse diagnosed with AN, including psychological changes, symptom progression, and rehabilitation, from a dual nurse-patient perspective. RESULTS: The patient presented with vertigo and an unsteady gait and was diagnosed wit

Sustaining nursing practice in Greenland: insights from a positive deviance study on motivation, resilience, and holistic care in arctic healthcare.

Health disparities in the Arctic remain substantial, with Inuit populations experiencing shorter life expectancy and higher morbidity than global averages. Nurse shortage exacerbates these challenges, and Greenland continues to rely on nurses from other countries. Despite these constraints, health outcomes have improved over time, including increased life expectancy, enhanced diabetes care, and better child growth indicators. To sustain professional well-being and retention in the Greenlandic nursing workforce, this study explores how nurses deliver high-quality care under constrained conditio

Exploring nurses' knowledge, attitudes, and competence in holistic palliative care management in Papua New Guinea: a mixed-methods study.

BACKGROUND: Palliative care is crucial for enhancing the quality of life for terminally ill patients, like those with cancer, but only 14% of those in need receive it, especially in resource-limited areas like Papua New Guinea (PNG). In 2018, PNG reported 7,477 cancer deaths and 11,913 new cases, with a projected 79% increase in patients by 2040. Nurses are vital to palliative care, yet gaps in competencies, particularly in pain management, affect care quality. This study aims to evaluate nurses’ knowledge, attitudes, and competencies in palliative care in PNG, considering the unique challenge

A case report of acute heart failure, pulmonary edema, and pleural effusion in an elderly patient with organic mental disorder: An integrative holistic nursing approach.

RATIONALE: Organic mental disorders complicate acute heart failure (AHF) in elderly patients, creating a heart-brain vicious cycle in which cognitive impairment masks cardiac symptoms while hypoxemia worsens delirium. Holistic nursing offers an integrative solution to this multidimensional complexity. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 67-year-old male with a 5-year history of visual hallucinations, insomnia, and poorly controlled hypertension presented with generalized edema and severe dyspnea. On admission, oxygen saturation was 60% (85% with oxygen), blood pressure was 139/90 mm Hg, and bedside ultrasoun
