Post-Natal Short-Term Home Visiting Programs: An Overview and a Volunteers-Based Program Pilot.

Post-natal home visits have been shown to be one of the most effective ways to prevent child maltreatment and reduce risks among children. Unfortunately, these programs tend to be expensive and thus not accessible or practical in many contexts. To address this problem, this paper reviews the literature on home visits conducted shortly after giving birth, considering different types of programs and their outcomes, while focusing on short-term and volunteer-based programs, two approaches that can answer the gap in accessibility. It then introduces a new, innovative, short-term, home visiting pro

[Development of an app to support in-home care consultation visits].

BACKGROUND: The in-home care consultation visits according to § 37.3 of the Social Security Statute Book XI have been carried out inconsistently so far and with a lack of structured care documentation. In the INGE-integrate4care project, an app was developed to support the quality assurance of visits. METHOD: Based on a user-centered design approach, 10 semistructured expert interviews were conducted and analyzed using qualitative content analysis according to Mayring. In group-based expert walkthroughs with 7 participants, the design, contents and functions of the app were discussed, require

Seeing Inside: How Stigma and Recognition Shape Community Health Worker Home Visits in São Paulo, Brazil.

Community Health Worker (CHW) home visits are central to primary care provision in São Paulo, Brazil. Yet CHWs receive little training prior to conducting these visits. In the neighborhood where I conducted ethnographic fieldwork, nearly half of patients were immigrants to Brazil, adding a layer of sociocultural and linguistic difference. I thus investigated how interactions between CHWs and patients unfolded and were shaped by cultural processes. Analyzing fieldnotes and interview data, I found that CHWs cherished relationships with older adult Portuguese-speaking patients, while expressing e

Reducing Medication Problems among Minority Individuals with Low Socioeconomic Status through Pharmacist Home Visits.

Introduction: In this study, pharmacists conducted home visits for individuals of medically underserved populations in Taiwan (i.e., socioeconomically disadvantaged individuals, middle-aged or older adults, and individuals living alone, with dementia, or with disabilities) to understand their medication habits. We quantified medication problems among various groups and investigated whether the pharmacist home visits helped to reduce the medication problems. Materials and Methods: From April 2016 to March 2019, pharmacists visited the homes of the aforementioned medically underserved individual

[Problems of Home-Visiting Speech-Language-Hearing Therapists in Dysphagia Management].

There are fewer reports by speech-language-hearing therapists than those by physical therapists or occupational therapists for visiting rehabilitation. Therefore, we examined the present situation with emphasis on professional roles of speech-language- hearing therapists working in visiting rehabilitation, patient tendency, and dysphagia rehabilitation. A questionnaire survey and interview survey were conducted on 6 speech-language-hearing therapists working in visiting rehabilitation. In the questionnaire, personal attributes, subject area, details of dysphagia rehabilitation, professional du

The role of preschool home-visiting programs in improving children's developmental and health outcomes.

Child health and developmental outcomes depend to a large extent on the capabilities of families to provide a nurturing, safe environment for their infants and young children. Unfortunately, many families have insufficient knowledge about parenting skills and an inadequate support system of friends, extended family, or professionals to help with or advise them regarding child rearing. Home-visiting programs offer a mechanism for ensuring that at-risk families have social support, linkage with public and private community services, and ongoing health, developmental, and safety education. When t

A move to a health centre: the effect on home visiting, repeat prescribing and patients' choice of transport.

A group of general practitioners recorded data about their work before and after moving into a health centre. A group of doctors who did not enter the health centre made equivalent observations for comparison.Patients of the health centre doctors increased their use of public transport by 13 per cent; the ;no-entry' group of doctors did not record a similar increase. A 27 per cent reduction in home visits was thought to be a direct result of entry into the health centre, contributing factors being, in all probability, availability of public transport and the provision of a pharmacy. An increas

[Use of Biologics and Home Visit by an Interdisciplinary Medical Care Team Led to the Improvement of Arthralgia-A Case of Rheumatoid Arthritis].

A woman in her 50s was diagnosed as having rheumatoid arthritis(RA)at another hospital. She refused treatment with biological therapy and had difficulty walking because of arthralgia. We formed a home-visit medical care team consisting of a physician, nurses, a physical therapist, and other medical professionals. Use of biologics, education on self-injection, and rehabilitation gradually improved her state. To support RA patients, a home-visit medical care team with the patient's cooperation and interdisciplinary professional work(IPW)would be important clinical methods.

Face-to-face health professional contact for postpartum women: A systematic review.

The postpartum period is a time when physical, psychological and social changes occur. Health professional contact in the first month following birth may contribute to a smoother transition, help prevent and manage infant and maternal complications and reduce health systems' expenditure. The aim of this systematic review was to assess the effect of face-to-face health professional contact with postpartum women within the first four weeks following hospital discharge on maternal and infant health outcomes. Fifteen controlled trial reports that included 8332 women were retrieved after searching

Scaling an equity-oriented extended home visiting programme in Sweden: costs and cross-sectoral fiscal distribution.

Inequalities in early childhood health persist across high-income countries, and structured home visiting is a principal policy response. Because such programmes are jointly produced by health and social services financed from separate budgets, the authority that pays is often not the authority that saves. We estimated the annual public-sector cost of scaling Sweden's extended home visiting programme nationally, and how it distributes between regional healthcare and municipal social services. A scenario-based costing analysis from a public-payer perspective. National registers gave an annual t

Home Visits With A Registered Nurse Did Not Affect Prenatal Care In A Low-Income Pregnant Population.

There is an urgent need to improve maternal and neonatal health outcomes and decrease their racial disparities in the US. Prenatal nurse home visiting programs could help achieve this by increasing the use and quality of prenatal care and facilitating healthy behaviors during pregnancy. We conducted a randomized controlled trial of 5,670 Medicaid-eligible pregnant people in South Carolina to evaluate how a nurse home visiting program affected prenatal health care and health outcomes. We compared outcomes between the treatment and control groups and found little evidence of statistically signif

Home Visiting Services During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Program Activity Analysis for Family Connects.

PURPOSE: Early reports highlighted challenges in delivering home visiting programs virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic but the extent of the changes in program implementation and their implications remains unknown. We examine program activity and families' perceptions of virtual home visiting during the first nine months of the pandemic using implementation data for Family Connects (FC), an evidence-based and MIECHV-eligible, postpartum nurse home visiting program. DESCRIPTION: Aggregate program implementation data for five FC sites for January-November of 2019 and 2020 are compared. The C

Infant Injury Prevention Education for Pregnant Women Attending Antenatal Class: A Quasi-Experimental Study.

It is important to educate caregivers in order to prevent infant injuries. However, there have been few studies on the effects of education on pregnant women. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of injury prevention group education on this group. Study participants were recruited from a group of pregnant mothers attending an antenatal class in Tokyo. Participants were assigned to either the intervention or control group based on the month in which they attended the existing antenatal class. Both groups received a leaflet on injury prevention, but only the intervention group received an ad

[Role of Pharmacists in the Care of Pediatric Patients Needing Home Visiting Intervention for Pharmaceutical Management and Their Life Depending on Medical Care].

Medical advances have made it possible to save lives of children with severe refractory diseases. As a result, the number of children who need continuous medical care at home has increased. However, currently, few medical personnel of both medical institutions and pharmacies are aware of home visiting intervention for pharmaceutical management. Home visiting intervention should be utilized more for severely impaired children who are highly dependent on medical care to effectively reduce the nursing care burden of the family and to secure pharmaceutical supply path.

Reducing neuropsychiatric symptoms in persons with dementia and associated burden in family caregivers using tailored activities: Design and methods of a randomized clinical trial.

Among over 5million people in the USA with dementia, neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) are almost universal, occurring across disease etiology and stage. If untreated, NPS can lead to significant morbidity and mortality including increased cost, distress, depression, and faster disease progression, as well as heightened burden on families. With few pharmacological solutions, identifying nonpharmacologic strategies is critical. We describe a randomized clinical trial, the Dementia Behavior Study, to test the efficacy of an activity program to reduce significant existing NPS and associated caregiv

Promoting Long-Term Parent and Caregiver Mental Health Through Universal Postnatal Nurse Home Visiting: Intervention Effects and Mechanisms of Action.

Poor mental health affects millions of parents and caregivers each year. In the absence of intervention, the duration and magnitude of mental health symptoms can have an adverse impact on parent and caregiver well-being, parenting practices, and subsequent children's development. Although home visiting is hypothesized to impact parent mental health, most studies do not demonstrate sustained benefits over time. Family Connects (FC) is a short-term, universal postnatal nurse home-visiting program designed to support children and families. Evaluations of FC demonstrate 6-month impacts on parent m

Evaluating the "right@home" randomized trial of nurse home visiting using linked administrative data at school transition.

INTRODUCTION: Nurse home visiting (NHV) is designed to redress child and maternal health inequities, but long-term evaluation is hampered by sample attrition. Evaluation using administrative data has the potential to overcome attrition through provision of a more complete outcome profile. Australia's "right@home" trial is the only long-running evaluation of NHV designed for a population with universal healthcare. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the effects of the NHV program on children's health and development outcomes and service use, compared with usual care (comparator), using linked administr

Transitioning to virtual interaction during the COVID-19 pandemic: Impact on the family connects postpartum home visiting program activity.

In this paper, we analyze program activity for Family Connects (FC), an evidence-based postpartum home-visiting intervention, during the COVID-19 pandemic. When the pandemic began, FC transitioned to a virtual protocol which maintains key psychosocial components of the in-person protocol and adjusts health assessments to address the lack of in-person contact. Program performance is contrasted for periods before the pandemic onset (April 2019-March 2020) and after the onset (April 2020-March 2021), involving 10,280 scheduled visits and 6696 visited families (46% non-Hispanic white; 20% non-Hisp
