Cavernous hemangioma of the ileum in a young man: A case report and review of literature.

BACKGROUND: Small intestinal cavernous hemangioma is a rare disease, especially in the ileum. It is difficult to accurately diagnose due to its hidden location and nonspecific clinical symptoms. Here, we reported a case of ileal cavernous hemangioma with chronic hemorrhage in a 20-year-old man and review the literature to gain a better understanding of this disease. CASE SUMMARY: The patient complained of intermittent melena and hematochezia for > 3 mo. The lowest hemoglobin level revealed by laboratory testing was 3.4 g/dL (normal range: 12-16 g/dL). However, the gastroscopy, colonoscopy and

Delayed malignant appendiceal fistula with ileal conduit following radical cystectomy: A case report.

Fistula formation after radical cystectomy is rare, often presenting early and involving the small bowel. Herein we describe a case of an appendiceal fistula in a patient who underwent chemoradiotherapy and pelvic exenteration over a decade prior to the presentation of their fistula. Initially suspected to be radiation-induced, final pathology revealed a mucinous neoplasm of the appendix, which had fistulized with the ileal conduit. This case emphasizes the importance of considering alternative causes, such as malignancy, in delayed fistulas, especially in patients with prior radiation. Clinic

Pediatric ileoileal intussusception with a lipoma lead point: a case report.

Intussusception is a common cause of mechanical bowel obstruction among children, with older children being more likely to have a pathological lead point. Intestinal neoplasms are rare and small intestinal lipomas are even less common. Herein we describe a case of a 7-year-old boy with ileoileal intussusception, with an ileal lipoma as the pathological lead point. Computed tomography was useful pre-operatively for revealing intussusception due to lipoma as the pathologic lead point.

Primary mucinous adenocarcinoma of the ileum.

A laparotomy was performed on a 67-year-old woman with a provisional diagnosis of intestinal obstruction from a primary small bowel carcinoma. A pathological examination showed a mucinous adenocarcinoma of the ileum, with no regional lymph node metastases. There was no evidence of any other abnormality in the peritoneal cavity. Ten years after the operation, an abdominal computed tomography scan showed a recurrent tumor in the peritoneal cavity. Primary small bowel adenocarcinoma is rare in all malignant gastrointestinal neoplasms, and very few cases of the ileal mucinous adenocarcinoma have b

Adenocarcinoma below stapled ileoanal anastomosis after restorative proctocolectomy for ulcerative colitis.

A case of adenocarcinoma arising in a 39-year-old patient after restorative proctocolectomy is reported. The patient underwent an ileal pouch-anal anastomosis with double-stapled technique for severe ulcerative colitis 18 years earlier, without evidence of associated neoplasm or dysplasia in operative specimen. After endoscopic diagnosis of adenocarcinoma, the patient was submitted to excision of the pouch and permanent ileostomy, followed by combined radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Pathology showed an AJCC stage III moderately differentiated mucinous adenocarcinoma. The patient died 24 months

Genetic analysis for diagnosing local recurrence of sigmoid colon cancer mimicking a small intestinal tumor: a case report.

BACKGROUND: With recent advances in genetics research, genetic analysis is increasingly being used in clinical practice. We report a case in which genetic analysis aided in diagnosing a local recurrence of sigmoid colon cancer, initially suspected to be a primary neoplasm of the small intestine. CASE PRESENTATION: A 61-year-old male underwent laparoscopic sigmoidectomy for stage IIIB sigmoid colon cancer, followed by 8 cycles of CAPOX adjuvant chemotherapy, one and a half years prior. A follow-up CT scan performed one and a half years postoperatively revealed a mass in the small intestine nea

ILEOSCOPY: WHEN ILEAL EVALUATION IS NOT MANDATORY DURING COLONOSCOPY.

BACKGROUND: Ileitis is defined as ileal inflammation, with several etiologies, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and can be evaluated during the colonoscopy exam, but its mandatory evaluation is discussed, because of few diagnosis and procedure time. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate the correlation of colonoscopic ileitis with the clinical presentation, in order to identify the cases where ileal examination is mandatory. METHODS: A retrospective, cross-sectional study was conducted between 2013 and 2017. The examination report, indications for colonoscopy, and medical records

[Orthotopic ileal neobladder of the Emikock type: technical points and functional results].

Ileal orthotopic neobladder represents, nowadays, the best urinary diversion after cystectomy. Emikock procedure was performed, in our institution, in 26 patients with bladder cancer T2-T4. At 6-60 months of follow-up 3 pts were died with local or at distance neoplastic recurrence, 2 were alive with neoplasms and 21 were NED. Nocturnal continence was good in 22 cases (88%) and only 3 patients were obstructed because of pseudodyssynergia in 2 and stricture in 1. Emikock neobladder even if needs a longer surgical time than other procedure and a long ileal tract is almost free from severe metabol

Ileal Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor Presenting With Subacute Intestinal Obstruction and Synchronous Peritoneal Metastases: A Case Report.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are rare mesenchymal neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract. They most often arise in the stomach, followed by the small intestine. Small bowel GISTs usually present with gastrointestinal bleeding, anemia, abdominal pain, or nonspecific symptoms, whereas intestinal obstruction is uncommon because these tumors typically grow outward from the bowel wall. We report the case of a 58-year-old woman with no previous abdominal surgery who presented with one month of abdominal pain, constipation, and vomiting, which progressed to complete absence of stool and f

Lower urinary tract reconstruction following cystectomy: experience and results in 96 patients using the orthotopic ileal bladder substitution of Studer et al.

Between 1989 and 1993 96 patients (89 males and 7 females) affected with invasive neoplasms of the bladder underwent surgery consisting of the creation of an orthotopic ileal neobladder according to Studer et al., after radical cystectomy. Patient selection and details of the surgical procedure are described. An accurate follow-up of 3-60 months (mean: 28 months) is presented. There have been 6 perioperative deaths (6.2%) and 11 early complications, all directly related to the neobladder and requiring reoperation in 6 cases (6.2%). Late complications required rehospitalization in 23 cases (23.

True smooth muscle neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract: morphological spectrum and classification in a series of 85 cases from a single institute.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: True smooth-muscle neoplasms of the GI tract have been only rarely studied in the KIT era. Their incidence among other GI mesenchymal tumours and their clinicopathological spectrum have not been sufficiently analysed. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We reviewed all GI mesenchymal lesions at the Pathology Institute of the Nuremberg Clinic Centre from 1994 through 2005. RESULTS: Among 262 lesions, there were 142 GISTs (54%) and 85 true smooth muscle neoplasms (32%). Smooth muscle neoplasms comprised 72 polypoid leiomyomas (78%, 5 oesophageal and 67 colorectal), 10 intramural leiomyo

Renal cell carcinoma presenting as small bowel obstruction secondary to a metastatic ileal intussusception.

We report a rare clinical presentation of renal cell carcinoma in the form of small bowel obstruction which was secondary to a metastatic ileal intussusception. Intussusception in the elderly is most commonly due to an underlying neoplasm, however metastases from a renal cell carcinoma is very uncommon. We present clinical details, radiological and pathological findings of the case followed by a discussion of the diagnosis and management of intussusception in the adult population.

Ileocecal intussusception in an adult: a case report.

Intussusception is relatively rare in adults and differs from the childhood form in its etiology, presentation and treatment. Unlike childhood intussusception, adult intussusception is usually due to underlying pathologic lead points, most probably neoplasms. The main clinical presentation of intussusception in the adult is chronic abdominal pain, and acute adult intussusception is uncommon. Here, we describe an uncommon case of acute ileocecal intussusception due to ileal lymphoid hyperplasia in a 46-year-old woman. Lymphoid hyperplasia of the intestines is a benign reactive process. Urinary diversion in therapy of pelvic cancer; an appraisal of ileal-ureteral anastomosis.

In 43 cases, diversion of the urinary stream was carried out by means of an end-to-side anastomosis of ureters into an ileal segment. Forty-one of these operative procedures were performed in conjunction with the primary or secondary surgical treatment of malignant neoplasm arising in the pelvis. There were six postoperative deaths in this group of patients, none due to the urinary diversion. The remaining patients were observed for periods of from three to sixty months, the mean average eighteen months. During that period, only one patient died (at 42 months) as the result of urinary diversio

Intestinal ischaemia associated with carcinoid tumor: a case report with review of the pathogenesis.

Carcinoid tumors are rare, slow-growing neuroendocrine neoplasms that are often indolent and may not become clinically apparent until there is a metastatic spread or evidence of carcinoid syndrome. A 44-year-old man presented to our clinic department with a history of previous left colon cancer operation, chronic crampy left lower quadrant pain, mass and severe anemia. A MR scan was obtained which demonstrated a calcified mesenteric mass 12×8×10 cm diameter with surrounding left colon mesenteric infiltration. The liver was normal. A case of ischaemic ileal necrosis is reported. It was associat

Percutaneous endoureterotomy of uretero-ileal stenosis in the Camey-Le Duc substitution bladder. Our experience in two cases.

Two patients with a Camey-Le Duc substitution bladder who presented monolateral uretero-ileal stenosis were treated by percutaneous endoureteral incision using electrocautery and moulding stents. The results were encouraging in one patient after 12 months follow-up. In the other case, however, endourological manipulation had solely symptomatic purpose since the stenosis was caused by local recurrence of primitive neoplasm.

Myxoma of the small intestine complicated by ileo-ileal intussusception: Report of an extremely rare case.

INTRODUCTION: Myxomas of the small intestine are extremely rare types of primary bowel neoplasms. Their presence can trigger intestinal intussusception in the adults. We present the eighth case of intestinal myxoma reported in the English literature. PRESENTATION OF CASE: Our patient is a 44-year-old Caucasian female who presented with clinical and imaging findings of intestinal intussusception. Laparotomy revealed ileo-ileal intussusception caused by an intramural mass of the middle-ileum which was resected. Histological and immunohistochemical studies pointed to the diagnosis of benign inte

Ileoileal intussusception secondary to an ileal fibroma.

Intussusception is defined as the telescoping of a segment of the gastrointestinal tract (intussusceptum) into an immediately adjacent distal bowel (intussuscipiens). Intussusception is a relatively rare cause of intestinal obstruction in adults. Unlike in children, a lead point is present in 90% of adult cases. The most common causes of small bowel intussusception are benign, usually hamartomas, lipomas, inflammatory polyps, adenomas and leiomyomas, in contrast to the large intestine where malignant tumors, usually adenocarcinomas, are more common. The clinical presentation of adult intussusc
