Apoprotein E-free high density lipoproteins (HDL) bind to various cells and cell membrane preparations with properties typical of ligand-receptor interactions. This study aimed to optimize the ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) process using food-grade ethanol to recover glucosinolates from upcycled cauliflower through response surface methodology. The optimized extraction process was compared with traditional extraction using maceration with solvents such as methanol and acetone. Studies of the survival time of 51Cr labeled erythrocytes treated in vitro with methyl acetimidate (MAI) were conducted in 13 patients with sickle cell disease in order to assess the suitability of this antisickling agent for more extensive clinical testing.
