BACKGROUND: Excessive alcohol consumption is a significant global health issue, often unaddressed in primary care. The 15-method, a three-step opportunistic screening and treatment tool premised on Motivational Interviewing and integrated within the Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment framework, offers a structured approach for healthcare professionals to identify and treat alcohol-related problems. The present study aimed to assess healthcare professionals' perceptions of determinants for early-stage implementation of the 15-method in Danish general practice and to classif

INTRODUCTION: Within the United States, individuals experiencing incarceration are at higher risk for HIV acquisition than the general population, yet may face additional difficulty engaging in HIV prevention clinical services. HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an effective approach to preventing HIV transmission, and the Centers for Disease Control recommends that PrEP be offered in carceral settings, particularly during the vulnerable community reentry period. However, there have been few efforts to scale PrEP in this setting.
METHODS: Based on our experience implementing PrEP in Rhode

OBJECTIVE: Implementation research is essential to accelerating the public health benefits of innovations in health settings. However, the US National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine 2022 report identified a lag in published implementation research applied to traumatic brain injury (TBI). Our objectives were to characterize implementation science studies published to date in TBI clinical care and rehabilitation and provide recommendations for future directions.
METHODS: A scoping review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Anal

In this commentary, we take the recent introduction of methadone treatment in response to emerging problems of HIV linked to heroin addiction in Kenya as a case for reflecting on the social science of implementation science. We offer a framework of 'evidence-making intervention' which we hold as distinct from mainstream 'evidence-based intervention' approaches. Whilst accepting that interventions are shaped in their contexts, evidence-based intervention approaches tend to imagine a stable intervention object with universal effect potential. By contrast, an evidence-making intervention approach

BACKGROUND: Interest in implementation science (IS) has grown rapidly in recent years, leading to the development of academic centers and programs across the United States (U.S.). Limited information exists regarding how these entities are structured, funded, and sustained. This study characterizes the infrastructure, funding models, service offerings, and organizational structures and practices of IS centers and programs within U.S. academic institutions.
METHODS: We conducted a convergent mixed methods study using a structured web-based review and a REDCap survey. Targeted Google searches o

BACKGROUND: Diabetes-related foot conditions drive amputations and premature mortality worldwide. Although international guidelines recommend annual foot screening based on risk, implementation remains insufficient and inequitable. This rapid review synthesized evidence on primary-care diabetic foot screening programs, examined barriers and facilitators using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research, and mapped strategies with an equity lens.
METHODS: A rapid review following Dobbins (2017) was reported according to PRISMA guidelines. MEDLINE, EMBASE, and CINAHL were searched fr

Climate change increasingly threatens progress in tuberculosis (TB) control by exacerbating food insecurity, disrupting health systems, and driving population displacement, particularly in resource-constrained settings. Although a growing body of literature links climate stressors to adverse TB outcomes, most existing research remains descriptive and provides limited guidance on how TB programs can adapt service delivery under worsening environmental conditions. This review examines how implementation science can address this evidence-to-practice gap and advance a climate-adaptive TB agenda. D

There are several evidence-based practices within nephrology that have the potential to meaningfully improve patient outcomes and mitigate disparities. However, these practices are inconsistently implemented in routine care, contributing to low-quality care, persistent health disparities, and high health care costs. To address these care gaps quickly, nephrology would benefit from leveraging implementation science: a multidisciplinary field that seeks to close the gap between evidence and practice by examining the optimal approach to help individuals, groups, organizations, and communities imp

BACKGROUND: Behavioral intervention technologies (BITs) offer scalable, cost-effective healthcare solutions but often show reduced impacts in community settings and are rarely sustained. Human-centered design (HCD) enhances usability by tailoring BITs to stakeholder needs, while implementation science (IS) identifies contextual barriers and strategies to promote uptake and sustainability. Both HCD and IS aim to improve BIT usability and implementation through iterative, user-focused processes but are rarely integrated.
OBJECTIVE: We introduced the user-centered and sustainable implementation

There is strong global need for the development of Multipurpose Prevention Technologies (MPTs) that prevent HIV, pregnancy, and/or other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). However, despite decades of research focused on the development of MPTs, numerous research gaps remain, contributing to reproductive health disparities. This commentary will highlight biomedical, socio-behavioral, and implementation science gaps in MPT research. Biomedical gaps and barriers include limited dosage forms, challenges around drug selection and stable coformulation of multiple drugs, and an unclear regulator

Public involvement is key to closing the gap between research production and research use, and the only way to achieving ultimate transparency in science. The majority of life science research is not public-facing, but is funded by the public and impacts communities. We undertook an exploratory survey of researchers within the life sciences to better understand their views and perceived challenges to involving the public in their research. As survey response rate could not be determined, interpretation of the results must be cautious. We had a valid response cohort of n = 110 researchers, of w

BACKGROUND: Implementation science (IS) occupies a critical place in HIV/AIDS research, reflected by a scientific track ("Track E") at the biannual International AIDS Conference. IS seeks to identify health delivery strategies that cost-effectively translate the efficacy of evidence-based interventions for HIV prevention, testing, and treatment into impact on HIV incidence, quality of life, and mortality.
METHOD: We reviewed the content of Track E, and other presentations relevant to IS, at the 22nd International AIDS Conference held in Amsterdam in 2018. We identified key findings and themes

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Substance use disorders (SUDs) are common among people with HIV (PWH) and have been linked to sub-optimal HIV care outcomes. Integration of substance use services into HIV care is an implementation strategy with potential to increase uptake of substance use services and improve HIV care outcomes. This review synthesizes recent U.S.-based studies on the epidemiology of substance use and HIV and integrated care models.
RECENT FINDINGS: We identified 18 studies published between January 2023 and June 2025. These studies reported high prevalence of substance use among PWH, with

ObjectiveBiliary atresia (BA) is a liver disease of infancy characterized by obstruction of the biliary tree. Infants with BA have the best outcomes when identified early and the Kasai portoenterostomy is performed before 45 days of life (DoL). In our hospital system, the average age at Kasai was 60 DoL. To address the problem of late presentation, we implemented a two-stage BA screening strategy utilizing direct bilirubin (DB).MethodsNew institutional policies were established that all newborns were tested at 24-48 h of life, and those with levels ≥0.5 mg/dL were followed further. The infant'

BACKGROUND: Healthcare providers are often targeted as research participants, especially for implementation science studies evaluating provider- or system-level issues. Frequently, provider eligibility is based on both provider and patient factors. Manual chart review and self-report are common provider screening strategies but require substantial time, effort, and resources. The automated use of electronic health record (EHR) data may streamline provider identification for implementation science research. Here, we describe an approach to provider screening for a Veterans Health Administration

BACKGROUND: Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) is an evidence-based practice that can identify adolescents who use alcohol and other drugs and support proper referral to treatment. Despite an American College of Surgeons mandate to deliver SBIRT in pediatric trauma care, trauma centers throughout the United States have faced numerous patient, provider, and organizational level barriers to SBIRT implementation. The Implementing Alcohol Misuse Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment Study (IAMSBIRT) aimed to implement SBIRT across 10 pediatric traum

INTRODUCTION: Implementation science seeks to promote the adoption and sustainment of evidence-based interventions across diverse settings. While technical and organisational determinants of implementation have been extensively studied, relational factors-particularly trust and trustworthiness-remain under-theorised despite being frequently invoked in implementation research. Trust is often embedded implicitly within broader constructs such as stakeholder engagement, partnership quality or acceptability, yet is rarely explicitly defined, systematically measured or positioned clearly within imp
