Nurse Practitioner Practice Regulations and Psychotropic Medication Dispensing for Medicaid-Insured Adults.

This study assessed the impact of Maryland's Nurse Practitioner Full Practice Authority Act of 2015 on psychotropic medication dispensing for Medicaid-insured adults treated by nurse practitioners (NPs) and physicians. A piecewise regression analysis of 168,509 Medicaid enrollees found that after this policy implementation, individuals were more likely to receive newly dispensed psychotropic medications from psychiatric-mental health NPs and from other NPs without a psychiatric specialty and were less likely to receive these medications from psychiatrists and from other medical doctors. Q&A: A Conversation with Patrick J. Kennedy. Parity Advocate Sees More Talk Than Action.

Insurers are playing "small ball" and not showing leadership, says the former congressman. And some "spin-dry" inpatient providers are doing more harm than good in combating the opioid epidemic. Meanwhile, Kennedy, who chronicled his own harrowing mental health and addiction struggles in a 2015 memoir, says he has been sober for more than six years.

The cost-effectiveness of psychotherapy for the major psychiatric diagnoses.

Psychotherapy is an effective and often highly cost-effective medical intervention for many serious psychiatric conditions. Psychotherapy can also lead to savings in other medical and societal costs. It is at times the firstline and most important treatment and at other times augments the efficacy of psychotropic medication. Many patients are in need of more prolonged and intensive psychotherapy, including those with personality disorders and those with chronic complex psychiatric conditions often with severe anxiety and depression. Many patients with serious and complex psychiatric illness ha

Occupational psychiatric disorders in Korea.

We searched databases and used various online resources to identify and systematically review all articles on occupational psychiatric disorders among Korean workers published in English and Korean before 2009. Three kinds of occupational psychiatric disorders were studied: disorders related to job stress and mental illness, psychiatric symptoms emerging in victims of industrial injuries, and occupational psychiatric disorders compensated by Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance (IACI). Korea does not maintain official statistical records for occupational psychiatric disorders, but severa

Section 377 and The Mental Healthcare Act, 2017: Breaking barriers.

Internationally, psychiatric work capacity assessments increasingly emphasise functioning, participation, contextual factors, and return-to-work processes rather than diagnosis alone. Nevertheless, substantial inter-rater variability persists in routine clinical practice, particularly in short-term sickness benefit evaluations, in which clinicians must balance therapeutic protection, proportionality, prevention of chronicity, and occupational reintegration. Since 2015, Swiss Federal Supreme Court case law has progressively established a structured medico-legal framework for evaluating psychiat

Challenges in Management of Hand Injuries in Psychiatric Patients.

Managing hand injuries in patients with concurrent psychiatric illness poses a significant challenge in patient care. An increasing segment of literature has also linked worse surgical and nonsurgical outcomes to patients with underlying psychiatric disease. As a result, the goal of this case series is to highlight the common themes seen in psychiatric patients who experience hand injuries and the factors that challenge the recovery, treatment, and overall outcome. The study was conducted in our hand therapy clinic. Outpatient clinic records were scanned from December 2023 to March 2024. Patien
