Cognitive assessment of risk-taking behavior in adults with substance use disorders and internet addiction.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with substance use and internet addiction disorders have a greater likelihood to indulge in risky behavior and show signs of impairment in self-regulation. Risk-taking behavior depends on reward seeking, impulsiveness, and cognitive control systems such as executive functioning, cognitive flexibility, and working memory. Assessment using cognitive tasks and validated questionnaires can provide an insight into the risk-taking behavior of these individuals. AIM: To assess the risk-taking behavior in adults with substance use disorders (SUDs) and internet addiction, by bo

Assessment of Attentional Bias in Internet Gaming Disorder Using the Addiction Stroop Task and Event-Related Potentials.

BACKGROUND: Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) is defined by a loss of control over gaming habits, prioritizing gaming above daily responsibilities, and persistent engagement despite detrimental outcomes. As a rising public health challenge, IGD significantly disrupts individuals' lives. Investigating attentional biases in IGD is vital for designing targeted interventions. METHODS: Attentional bias was measured in individuals with IGD using the Addiction Stroop Task. The participants were classified into three cohorts: IGD, Recreational Game Users, and non-gaming controls. Electroencephalography/

Using two web-based addiction Stroops to measure the attentional bias in adults with Internet Gaming Disorder.

Background and aims People with substance abuse and pathological gamblers show an attentional bias. In a laboratory setting, we found an attentional bias using an addiction Stroop in adults with Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD). We aimed at investigating this effect using two web-based experiments. Methods Study 1: Gamers with IGD, casual gamers, and non-gamers (N = 81, 28.1 ± 7.8 years) completed a web-based addiction Stroop with a fully randomized word order. They saw computer-related and neutral words in four colors and indicated the word color via keypress. Study 2: Gamers with IGD, casual g

Metabolomics analysis of serum biomarkers and metabolic pathways in addictive disorders: Focus on internet gaming disorder and alcohol use disorder.

INTRODUCTION: Metabolomics technologies provide a means to uncover metabolic disturbances and the associated signaling pathways in addictive disorders such as alcohol use disorder (AUD) and internet gaming disorder (IGD). While it is anticipated that common or distinctive metabolic pathways may be implicated in AUD and IGD groups, there have been few studies of comparative metabolomic analysis for these two addictive disorders. METHODS: In the current study, we investigated the metabolomic profiles of serum samples obtained from ninety-nine young adults aged 18-35 years, comprising individual

Is Internet Gaming Disorder Associated with Trauma and Stress? Testing the Trauma Model of Addiction Among Young Adults.

Internet gaming disorder (IGD) is a growing public health concern, with longitudinal studies linking it to a range of negative outcomes, including psychological distress and poor academic achievements. While the trauma model has been applied to other addictive behaviors, little is known about the relationship between childhood trauma, trauma-related symptoms, and IGD symptoms. This preliminary study investigated whether childhood betrayal trauma would have a stronger relationship with IGD symptoms than non-betrayal trauma and whether IGD symptoms would be associated with interpersonal stress a

Anxiety and inhibitory control play a chain mediating role between compassion fatigue and Internet addiction disorder among nursing staff.

Mental health problems among nurses are prevalent and harmful. Nurses worldwide have encountered serious mental health issues. Although fatigue has been proven to lead to substance abuse or addictive behaviors (such as internet addiction), there is a lack of sufficient data on whether there is a connection with compassion fatigue. Compassion fatigue is a common mental health problem in helping professions. Anxiety and inhibitory control have been demonstrated to be associated with internet addiction, but the mediating role between them in the state of compassion fatigue remains to be further e
