A pregnant woman with a mechanical prosthetic mitral valve was anticoagulated with low-molecular-weight heparin in the first trimester followed by warfarin until 36 weeks' gestation. She was then switched to intravenous unfractionated heparin infusion to allow for regional anesthesia in anticipation of vaginal delivery. She developed severe headache on hospital day 2 that was refractory to pain medications. Cranial imaging demonstrated a large subdural hematoma with midline shift. She delivered a healthy baby girl by cesarean section. Eventually, symptoms and intracranial abnormalities resolve

Five of 34 hemophiliac children suffered from nine episodes of intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) from hemophilia A, and another 3 were B hemophiliacs. Diagnoses were confirmed by computed tomographic scan in all nine episodes. The ages of the patients with ICH ranged from 3 months to 4 1/2 years. The most frequent presenting symptoms were headache and vomiting, followed by focal neurological deficits. Eight of 9 episodes had bleeding in multiple regions. All the patients received immediate replacement therapy had recovered without surgical intervention. The duration of treatment was 10 +/- 2 days.

BACKGROUND: Intracranial hemorrhages (ICH) are life-threatening conditions that require rapid detection and precise subtype classification. Automated segmentation and volumetric analysis using deep learning can enhance clinical decision-making.
INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to develop and evaluate 3D U-Net based deep learning models for automatic segmentation and classification of ICH and related pathologies in non-contrast brain CT images. We investigated the effect of the number of segmentation classes on model performance.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A dataset of 1508 non-contrast CT series,

Significant intracranial and retinal hemorrhages are often seen in infants with abusive head trauma, although accidental injury and previously undiagnosed medical disorders are important considerations in the differential diagnosis. We present the case of an infant with confirmed accidental trauma sustained from an adult-worn baby carrier fall with superimposed head crush injury, which resulted in significant cranial, intracranial, and retinal findings.

INTRO: Patients with small intracranial hemorrhage at initial presentation (ICHi) have a relatively uneventful hospital course, as compared with larger ICHi. In this study, we tested the null hypothesis that ICHi does not impact the symptom profile of patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) after discharge.
METHODS: In this retrospective study, TBI patients over 18 years of age with a head CT at initial presentation and at least one follow-up visit between 2015 and 2018 were included. Those with vascular risk factors, major psychiatric comorbidities, neurologic disorders, and TBI / CT evid

BACKGROUND: Detection of multiple intracranial aneurysms (MIAs) in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) is common and the optimal management of the additional unruptured intracranial aneurysms (UIA) is often a matter of debate. We calculate the incidence and the factors associated with subsequent aSAHs from untreated additional aneurysms in a single-center group of patients with aSAH and MIAs.
METHODS: Charts of patients with MIAs admitted to our neurosurgery department for aSAH between January 2000 and March 2020 were retrospectively reviewed. Incidence rate and factors as

INTRODUCTION: The risk factors of intracranial hemorrhages (ICH) in the context of neonatal hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) and related interventions are unclear.
OBJECTIVE: This article examines the prevalence and risk factors associated with ICH in neonates with HIE.
STUDY DESIGN: This is a retrospective cohort study of neonates with HIE in Southern Alberta. ICH (subdural [SDH], subarachnoid [SAH], intraventricular [IVH], intraparenchymal [IPH]) were diagnosed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Perinatal and neonatal characteristics were examined. BACKGROUND: Hemorrhage from an intracranial tumor is well known but uncommon. In cases of subarachnoid hemorrhage, aneurysm rupture is a main cause.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 64-year-old woman presented with sudden-onset motor aphasia. Computed tomography revealed subarachnoid hemorrhage, and intracerebral hemorrhage in the left temporal lobe. From the findings of pre-enhancement computed tomography, hemorrhage from a left middle cerebral artery aneurysm was initially suspected. Further radiological examinations demonstrated an enhanced mass with dural attachment in the left temporal region, but no

OBJECTIVE: Cerebrovascular diseases (CVDs) remain an important public health issue due to the increasing number of deaths worldwide. Changes in the synthesis and release of peptides in CVDs may play an important role in elucidating the physiopathology of the disease. Therefore, this study was to investigate the fate of maresin-1 (MaR-1), subfatin (SUB), asprosin (ASP), and alamandine (ALA) levels in patients with cerebral infarction (CI), intracranial hemorrhage (ICH), subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) evaluated within the scope of CVDs, and voluntary healthy controls.

Subarachnoid hemorrhage is uncommon in pregnancy and may be caused by intracranial aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, venous thrombosis, or preeclampsia. We present an unusual case of subarachnoid hemorrhage in a term parturient where the bleeding originated from an extracranial source, namely a cervicothoracic arteriovenous malformation. This case highlights the challenge of diagnosing this condition when the initial presentation may be nonspecific, lacking in neurologic deficits, and confounded by the simultaneous presence of preeclampsia.

Central nervous system intravascular lymphoma sometimes includes multiple lesions mimicking cerebral infarction. Herein, we report our experience with a case of intravascular large B-cell lymphoma (IVLBCL) with multiple hemorrhages. A 53-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with clonic convulsions of the left upper limb. Brain MRI revealed a large number of high-intensity areas on FLAIR and low-intensity areas on susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI). Chest CT showed bilateral multiple high-density lesions in the lungs. Biopsy of pulmonary lesions revealed no abnormal cells. Levetiracet

PURPOSE: Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) and extracranial hemorrhage (ECH) in newborns with hemophilia were reviewed with respect to incidence, anatomic location, clinical presentation, and relationship to the mode of delivery and type of hemophilia.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A MEDLINE search from 1964 to 1996 of all reports of neonatal hemophilia and head bleeds in children from birth to 1 month old was performed. ICH was defined as any bleed occurring within the cranial cavity, and ECH was defined as hemorrhage occurring outside of the cranial cavity, including subgaleal and cephalhematoma. The

Recently increased utilization of high definition T. C. scan and U. S. has led, in recent years, to diagnose and to localize the intracranial haemorrhage of the term newborns. It has been possible to study the outlook of this disease. The neuro-psychological development of the children, affected by intracranial haemorrhage at the birth, is more impaired when the haemorrhage is intraparenchimal: intracerebellar or intracerebral. Our cases show that a haemorrhage causes only discord on the neuro-psycholological development. When, on the other hand, haemorrhage is associated with anoxicbrain dama

BACKGROUND: Retinal hemorrhages (RH) are commonly seen with abusive head trauma (AHT). This study evaluates pediatric patients who had neuroimaging and an ophthalmologic examination in an attempt to correlate the etiology of presentation with the presence and pattern of RH and intracranial pathology.
METHODS: A retrospective review was performed on hospitalized patients under 5 years of age who underwent neuroimaging and ocular examination. The presence of intracranial pathology, RH, and diagnoses of AHT versus accidental trauma were recorded. Fundus photographs were evaluated with a publishe

Few case reports of encapsulated intracranial hematoma (EIH) exist, and the mechanisms underlying the onset and enlargement of EIH remain unclear. Here, we report on a 39-year-old woman with an EIH that repeatedly hemorrhaged and swelled and was ultimately surgically removed. In June 2012, the patient visited her local doctor, complaining of headaches. A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan identified a small hemorrhage of approximately 7 mm in her right basal ganglia, and a wait-and-see approach was adopted. Six months later, her headaches recurred. She was admitted to our department after M
