There has been developed and adopted the author's method for surgical treatment of the retropancreatic cyst of the pancreas. The method involves a one-stage internal drainage of the cyst and pancreatic duct through cystoductopancreatojejunostomy on the isolated loop of the small intestine. Overall three patients have been operated on. The immediate and late results are good. The method is defended by the inventor's certificate.

Benjamin Franklin, one of the founding fathers of the United States, was not just a politician and a political philosopher but an inventor with a scientific temperament. He was overweight and likely suffered from the consequences of metabolic syndrome including gout. He woke up with a gout attack on October 22, 1780 and wrote the "Dialogue Between Franklin and the Gout." His observations on the risk factors for gout are re-examined in the modern context 243 years later.

Our colleague René Cerbelaud was an original character. He played an important part in the pharmaceutical history of the 20th century when published recipes of countless medicines and cosmetic products, incurring the hostility of their manufacturers. As a matter of fact, he contributed to the disappearance of secret remedies and therefore to the enforcement of the Germinal law more than a century after it was promulgated. In a sense he may be looked on as the inventor of generic drugs and the promoter of what has become "parapharmacie".
