UHPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS profiling of resin glycosides and their lipase inhibitory activity in leaves of selected sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) cultivars.

INTRODUCTION: Resin glycosides (RGs) found in the aerial parts of sweet potato are health promoting agents that can be reclaimed from the by-products of sweet potato plantation as agriceuticals for combating obesity. However, RGs have complex structural variations across various sweet potato cultivars, along with an unclear structure-activity relationship. To address this gap, nine types of sweet potato leaves were evaluated, including "Shangshu 19", "Xuzi 20-1", "Xushu 24", "Xushu 32", "Yanshu 25", "Blackheart", "Blackie", and two "Beniazuma" samples. METHODS: RG-rich extracts were obtained

Functional Characterization of IbHK1a Reveals Its Role in Enhancing Drought and Salt Tolerance Through Reactive Oxygen Species Regulation and Two-Component System Signaling in Sweet Potato (Ipomoea batatas L.).

Drought and salinity are major abiotic stresses that severely constrain plant growth and agricultural productivity. Histidine kinases (HKs), as key components of the plant two-component system (TCS), play crucial roles in environmental signal perception and adaptive responses. In this study, we functionally characterized a sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) HK gene, IbHK1a, and investigated its role in drought and salt stress tolerance. Expression analysis revealed that IbHK1a is predominantly expressed in root tissues, particularly in storage and fibrous roots, indicating its potential involve

Thiamine deficiency in a dog associated with exclusive consumption of boiled sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas): Serial changes in clinical findings, magnetic resonance imaging findings and blood lactate and thiamine concentrations.

Thiamine (vitamin B1 ) is an essential nutrient that significantly influences ATP production in the body. It needs to be supplemented consistently through an exogenous source to prevent deficiency; however, it is easily affected by a variety of mitigating factors. Additionally, thiamine requirements can be influenced by an individual's dietary composition. The nervous system is particularly vulnerable to thiamine deficiency due to its high metabolic demand. Thiamine deficiency is typically diagnosed based on clinical signs, dietary history and response to thiamine administration. A 5-year-old

Purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L. Lam) leaves extract prevents weight gain and lipotoxicity in mice fed a high-fat diet by increasing metabolic flexibility and oxidative metabolism in skeletal muscle and brown adipose tissue.

BACKGROUND: Purple sweet potato leaves are a rich source of caffeoylquinic acids (CQA) and related compounds with potential metabolic benefits. Our previous research demonstrated that 5-CQA and 3,4-diCQA increase mitochondrial respiration in primary hepatocytes. To explore the translational relevance of purple sweet potato leaves extract (PSPLE) in the management and treatment of obesity, we evaluated the effect of PSPLE in C57BL/6 mice fed a high-fat (HF) diet supplemented with either 1% or 3% PSPLE (w/w) and assessed insulin secretion in INS-1E cells. METHODS: PSPLE phenolic compounds were

Research Progress in the Cytogenetics of Sweetpotato and Its Wild Relatives.

Cultivated sweetpotato (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.), a hexaploid (2n = 6x = 90) crop, is the most economically important species within the morning glory genus Ipomoea (Convolvulaceae). Fourteen diploid Ipomoea species and several polyploid accessions have been confirmed to be closely related to sweetpotato, often termed its wild relatives. These wild species harbor abundant elite genes beneficial to sweetpotato improvement and thereby serve as indispensable germplasm reservoirs for breeding programs. In addition, several wild taxa are proposed as potential ancestors of domesticated sweetpotato

Diversity Within Streptomyces ipomoeae Based on Inhibitory Interactions, rep-PCR, and Plasmid Profiles.

ABSTRACT Streptomyces soil rot is a destructive disease of sweetpotato (Ipomoea batatas) that causes yield loss resulting from decay of the feeder root system and reduced quality due to the presence of necrotic lesions on the storage roots. It is managed by the use of resistant cultivars, but variability of the pathogen has not been previously assessed. This study compared 36 strains of the pathogen Streptomyces ipomoeae from different locations in the United States and Japan. The strains could be separated into three groups on the basis of their ability to inhibit the growth of one another in

Bio-Transforming Sweet Potato into a Methionine-Rich Aquafeed Ingredient: A Statistical Screening of Saccharomyces cerevisiae Fermentation.

For sustainable aquaculture production, a steady supply of high-quality protein for feed formulations is a challenge for countries with logistical or financial constraints on access to these resources. One of the most sustainable solutions to these challenges is to use microbial fermentation from readily available agricultural waste or crops. The aim of this study was to valorise sweet potatoes, a low-cost and abundant source of carbohydrates, by the baker's yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, to produce a protein enriched product suitable for aquaculture use. The Plackett-Burman design was used t
