Tooth intentional replantation from 1964 to 2023: A bibliometric analysis.

BACKGROUND/AIM: There is no thorough overview of intentional tooth replantation techniques. We performed a bibliometric analysis of the development of intentional tooth replantation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A comprehensive search of the Web of Science and SCOPUS databases was conducted in February 2023. Original articles and reviews of human studies with "intentional replantation" or synonyms in the titles, abstracts, or keywords were included. A descriptive analysis of bibliographic data, co-occurrence analysis, and coupling of publications was performed. Multivariate analysis was used to exp

Finite element analysis in the Dental Sciences: A Bibliometric and a Visual Study.

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: Finite element analysis (FEA) is an incrementally practical and precise tool for the prediction of stress effects on different tissue structures and has therefore interested dental researchers for decades. This bibliometric and visualized study was aimed to assess the research progress related to FEA in the dental sciences in terms of research trends and frontiers. METHODS: The articles about FEA studies in this field during 1999 to 2024 were obtained from Web of Science Core Collection. Then, these results were analysed and plotted using Microsoft Excel, VOSviewer, and

A case of tularemia presenting as a dental abscess: case report.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this report is to present a tularemia case accompanied by a neck mass that easily may be confounded with dental abscess. SUMMARY: Francisella tularensis is a potential agent of biologic terrorism. Thirty percent of the symptoms seen in tularemia localize in the head and neck region and are sometimes mistaken for complications of a dental abscess. To our knowledge, reports of the differential diagnostic characteristics of tularemia are lacking in the dental literature and, to date, no dental journal articles have focused on the disease. In this present case, a 51-year

Bibliometric Analysis of the Worldwide Scientific Production on Periapical Lesions in Veterinary Medicine: Visualization, Emerging Patterns, and Thematic Evolution.

To conduct a bibliometric mapping of the global scientific production of periapical lesions in veterinary medicine by evaluating collaborative networks, emerging patterns, and spatiotemporal dynamics. Documents published between 1986 and 2024 that addressed topics related to periapical lesions in the veterinary field were included. Articles, reviews, book chapters, and books containing specific key terms in their titles or abstracts, such as "periapical abscess," "periapical infection," and "periapical pathology," were selected. Documents unrelated to the veterinary field, duplicates, and thos

Melatonin: A Review of Its Potential Functions and Effects on Dental Diseases.

Melatonin is a hormone synthesised and secreted by the pineal gland and other organs. Its secretion, controlled by an endogenous circadian cycle, has been proven to exert immunological, anti-oxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects that can be beneficial in the treatment of certain dental diseases. This article is aimed at carrying out a review of the literature published about the use of melatonin in the dental field and summarising its potential effects. In this review article, an extensive search in different databases of scientific journals was performed with the objective of summarising all

Do randomised clinical trials on dental caries adopt Open Science practices?

BACKGROUND: Open Science Practices (OSPs) are essential when assessing research integrity and quality of Randomised Clinical Trials (RCTs). As dental caries represents a significant oral health burden, our objective was to identify and analyse the adoption of OSPs within RCTs focused on addressing this disease. METHODS: We searched PubMed to retrieve RCTs related to dental caries published from January 2000 to March 2022. Two independent researchers assessed a random sample of these articles to evaluate their eligibility until reaching the minimum sample size. Then, the same examiners reviewe

Melatonin and the Dental Pulp: A Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: In general medicine, melatonin is known to enhance wound healing and promote stem cell differentiation. Its potential relevance in endodontics, however, remains underexplored. OBJECTIVES: This scoping review aimed to systematically assess the available evidence on the effects of melatonin (a) on dental pulp tissue and (b) on human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs), particularly regarding cell proliferation and differentiation with regard to endodontics. METHODOLOGY: A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed, Clarivate Analytics' Web of Science and Scopus from incept

BACKGROUND: The successful implementation of the 2030 sustainable development Agenda in Africa requires active participation from all sectors, including the dental research sector. The aim of this study was to review dental research published by authors affiliated with institutions in African countries from 2016 to 2023, to map papers related to the sustainable development goals (SDGs), and to identify areas of emphasis and gaps in SDGs-related papers on oral health in Africa. METHODS: We conducted a bibliometric analysis of dental literature in Africa (2016-2023) using Scival for performance

Role of the Early Detection and Prevention of Dental Caries in Children: A Systematic Review of Clinical Outcomes.

Dental caries is one of the most prevalent chronic conditions affecting children worldwide, contributing significantly to pain, school absenteeism, and reduced quality of life. Despite its preventable nature, early childhood caries continues to pose a major public health challenge, particularly in underserved populations. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of early detection and preventive interventions in managing dental caries among children. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and

Evaluation of a computer-assisted learning programme on the oro-facial signs of child physical abuse (non-accidental injury) by general dental practitioners.

A computer-assisted learning programme with tutorials and self assessment multiple choice questions has been developed. One hundred and two general dental practitioners were asked to evaluate the programme. Over 80% of respondents felt that the programme was easy to use, contained an appropriate level of supporting information, and had improved their knowledge of non-accidental injury. All users of the programme felt that it was a better way of learning than video, audio tapes, and journals or books on the subject. It is concluded that CAL programmes are worthwhile for providing continuing pro

The patient with a heart murmur: evaluation, assessment and dental considerations.

BACKGROUND: Heart murmurs, a common finding in dental patients, are of major concern to dental professionals because certain dental procedures occasionally can induce severe cardiovascular complications. Murmurs may indicate existing heart disease that is a risk factor for infective endocarditis following a dental procedure, as well as more severe heart conditions such as congenital heart disease, atrial fibrillation or congestive heart failure. TYPES OF STUDIES REVIEWED: This review article is based on data published in peer-reviewed journals, including practice guidelines published by major
