Study of corneal endothelium by scanning and transmission electron microscopy in two cases of corneal disease. In one case of herpetic keratitis with stromal oedema, there is no cellular reaction. PURPOSE: We report a case of herpetic epithelial keratitis that developed after intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide injection.
METHODS: An 81-year-old man with diabetes with severe nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy and diffuse macular edema in both eyes received bilateral intravitreal injections of 0.4 mg/0.1 mL of triamcinolone acetonide.

BACKGROUND/AIM: The aim of this study was to describe the results of amniotic membrane transplantation (AMT) in patients with bacterial and herpetic stromal keratitis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was a retrospective chart review study including 42 patients with herpetic keratitis (group 1) and 42 patients with bacterial keratitis (group 2). AMT was performed in addition to antimicrobial therapy. Topical steroids were administered after surgery. PURPOSE: To report an 81-year-old woman with corneal neovascularization secondary to herpetic stromal keratitis treated with subconjunctival bevacizumab and to discuss the role of this novel antiangiogenic treatment.
METHODS: Case report and review of medical literature.
RESULTS: A dramatic regression of corneal vessels was observed 1 week after the injection. After a 3-month follow-up, there was no recurrence of corneal revascularization.
CONCLUSIONS: Bevacizumab may be a valid complementary treatment in patients with corneal neovascularization caused by herpetic stromal keratitis.

55 patients with dendritic ulcer have been treated in a double-blind randomised manner by minimal wiping debridement of their ulcers followed by daily application of either partially purified human interferon (P.I.N.F.) or placebo. There were 6 recurrences of epithelial herpetic disease in 30 patients who received P.I.N.F. and 13 in 25 who received placebo. This provides the long-awaited data proving the antiviral effect of exogenous interferon in treatment of naturally occurring viral disease in man, and furnishes a sighting shot on the lower edge of the target of effective therapy.
